Soul Calibur 5 World Tourney results

OmegaDR is just an anomaly. He's on a whole 'nother level. I don't even know how he is so good at the game, considering the scene. It's not like the Dominican Republic is a SCV fest is it? I think Keev is on par with the anticipation and he might have been having a worse time because of jetlag.
1.- OmegaDR is a SC version of NEO from MATRIX, so yeah he is an anomaly.
2.- Whole'nother level? man Ramon and Dreamkiller are also from Dominican Republic so maybe is something we got on our blood...
3.- DR is a SCV fest? no man, DR is not a SCV fest but OMEGADR did his training for tournaments against us ONLINE so maybe yeah we are kind of good fighters...
4.- Jetlag? ok, maybe that was the problem... and for Akire too... and Toilet and SHK... and Hyrul...

It was man, RTD was hilarous, had so much fun with that guy, guy is cool and funny as hell.
Seconded for truth. All the people giving Americans shit should meet this guy, considering all he's achieved he's modest as hell as well.

Now onto my disappointments.....

-Hyrui and NFK

These guys played well, but I feel jumping around from character to character hurts you in the long run. Hyrui must have confused himself. The man had to pull himself out of hell just to get the W with Lexia. Even though he mains Tira. Look, I wanna win too, but how doing it with your main? I mean I understand match ups and etc. because good players should be able to overcome the obstacles that face them. NFK did this as well. The switch to NM for no reason didn't make sen to me. It's like...something. I don't know...but I just didn't like the move to NM. But what I'm trying to get at is that these guys were label to be good with a certain character and such are off cping like crazy just to win one match. I understand why, but I felt they cp themselves into a wall. If you're going to Cp. Keep it to just one sub character. Sometimes it's better to pick for a change of pace instead of getting match up adv. Omega did right.
I very rarely actually counterpick though. Character choice comes down to a bunch of different things. Leixia is my main (as in she's my strongest character) but I would prefer to main Tira if I can become strong enough. But also I find it more fun to use multiple characters in this game because of the simplified movelists. I used only X in SCIV but she had loads of moves and I would try to work every single one of them into my game. By the end of IV there were only 4 X moves I didn't use in her whole movelist.

In terms of choices in this tournament - I find Leixia vs. Mitsu to hard so I didn't use her there. I tried Tira vs. NFK because she's my favourite character but I have more Cervy experience with Leixia so I tried her after. Against Toilet I used Leixia because I feel very confident against ZWEI with Leixia (so if you don't consider her my main then you could call that a counterpick)

Despite what people think, the game is still very early in it's lifespan. Though I have my gripes with the game, it's easy to see that the highest level of possibility has not been reached with the game yet. With that being said, lots of players aren't going to feel good about certain aspects of their game or certain matchups yet. With that being said, there are tournaments with high stakes being held every month and, with some things and some characters being changed more than others (even more post-patch), it's only natural that playrs be in something of a character crisis. Hell, some of the players are doing well with simple strategies that people underestimate right now.

Also just want to make the point that the character crisis thing is good for exposure to different characters, their strengths, their weaknesses, as well as your own. I speak as someone who really didn't have a main...or, rather, a tournament viable one so I stuck to A) what I know (aPat) and b) something simple (Mits). Wait until there's a lull in tournaments (and Evo); people should be turning it up by then.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but some of this stuff comes off straight up snobbish and makes the SC community look stupid and unappreciative.

I would have killed to see the support that SCV is getting during SC4.

I was thinking about this a while ago also and feel the same way, especially with the amount of big tournaments going on right now. I'm interested to see how things look after EVO because there will be a big lull before the next big tournament.

Yea man just as he sexually arrased a poor girl, lol, yea lets just let everything go, cause its normal, this is about respect not about drama, we had drama in the tournament, but the respect was there, so drama is always welcome if you maintain respect.

Thats just straight up bs. He never "sexually harassed" a girl, are you out of your mind for claiming that? Aswell as he never "insulted" your country (and even if he did, no one gives a fuck). First of all, learn what sexual harrasement means, secondly, get a sense of humor and a bag of irony along with it.
Someone smarter than a tacco should understand when someone is just being plain disrespectful or rassist or if hes just being silly and making fun. Dont talk about respect if you dont know what it means. I bet youre one of those guys that gets insulted when someone makes a "your mum" joke as you take it as a serious offense towards your family - lol.
Just know that youre the one being disrespectfull when saying he sexually harassed someone without it being the case - heck, where I come from people can get you to court for claims like that.

having the commentary done before a live audience is also not an excuse, a live audience would be just as much interested in content and hype as the streamers would be, if you really wanted to, you could have just had rich hyping up the audience the entire time and not commentating, i honestly hate to say it, but there is something that the FCG commentators could learn from the esports / star craft community, because if there is one thing they do right, its discussing strategy over the commentary

Doing commentary for a live audience is a problem, considering that the players could hear the commentary. If they started discussing strategy, the players could use that to their advantage, and that wouldn't be fair. The last thing you want to see is a commentator suggesting something to a player, and that player using it to win a match.

I sense hostility, are you fat and insecure? or are you just trying to sound cool?, i think is the first one, lol, o and my mom is dead so, dont worry for the mum part, is your father gay or something or maybe your mother is kind of a whore cause i sense hostility in your post.

Doesn't have any of the same wit as Aris. Try harder next time.

Also, grow up.

Ahh..I understand. I'm shocked you didn't confuse yourself. My advice is to make you sure you don't rush into things blind. I felt you were going other characters just to get match up adv. I mean you went Natsu to take on mitsu. I understand why, but if you get to those types of characters it's better to go back to your main( like you did the second game of the set). But you logic makes ton of sense. I'm just worried you don't make your brain blow up.

OFFTOPIC:
Straight from EEOC:
"It is unlawful to harass a person because of that person’s sex. Harassment can include “sexual harassment” or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature.
Harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature, however, and can include offensive remarks about a person’s sex. For example, it is illegal to harass a woman by making offensive comments about women in general."

Yep it was sexual harassment. Look yow shit up.

ONTOPIC:

PHENOMENAL performance to all contesters! Specially top 3. Keev is a machine as usual, ungodly reaction time, zoning, punishment... pretty much everything. Mad respect. Akire, well deserved top Mitsu in world, also well deserved come-back champion, finds a way to win no matter what. It still baffles me the level of mind games he has.
Omega, tu eres increible. Para decirte la verdad viendote jugar me saca las ganas de participar en campeonatos porque se que nunca voy a llegar a un nivel ni cerca al tujo. Sin ninguna duda tu te merces el lugar de numero 1 en el mundo. Hojala algun dia podamos jugar unas partidas I me puedas ensenar algunas de tus tacticas. Felicitaciones!

All in all one of the tournaments I enjoyed watching the most. Definitely on my top 3 hypest grand finals.

It's funny, people who've never been to a tournament saying all this stuff, judging Omega and Aris how they see fit. No lie, Omega is one of the coolest and most laid back players in the community AND he has a cool accent!

Must be a bunch of angsty white kids.

Zou- In the vids the JP playa's name should be SHK.

Grey.Wolf- Many links to JP comp vids and their streams in my thread.
Here they stream (mostly online) SCV, includin casuals and comps (click the colored boxes/channels at the bottom of the screen):

I would've missed this if I didn't waste so much time on these boards. Will check out later tonight.

ya i agree, i wish we could all take the forum shit talking with a grain of sand, until we actually meet each other, because i am pretty sure any two soul calibur players could probably get along in person, its a shame that grudges and vendettas are formed over the anonymity and trollyness of the intertubes, these things only serve to divide us, and we need to strengthen our community, because we arent the horde that encompasses capcom games, numbers are not on our side, i know im asking everyone to be the bigger man which is never ez to be the first to do when pride is involved, but i think its worth consideration at the very least

Doing commentary for a live audience is a problem, considering that the players could hear the commentary. If they started discussing strategy, the players could use that to their advantage, and that wouldn't be fair. The last thing you want to see is a commentator suggesting something to a player, and that player using it to win a match.

i had not really considered that the players might hear the live commentary, i kind of assumed that they would not be able to hear with the noise cancelling headphones, but that was probably a vast overestimation of how effective the headphones are, sorry to keep comparing our esports cousin of starcraft, but one thing they do that is actually pretty good is to place the players inside of glass which i believe is sound proof perhaps? they also play the games on the big screen a few seconds slower than the actual game so commentators dont give anything away, just some ideas to consider for the next major

i hope im not coming off as snobby, but i know i probably am, i am very grateful for all that namco and the commentators are doing for the community, but given that this is the FGC community which thrives on self improvement, i thought some constructive criticism would be more than welcome to the commentators, nobodys perfect or ever will be when it comes to commentating, in this community or the next, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt strive for more, i honestly feel that we should be able to learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of other communities, and try our best to step up our game and take the community to the next level, our community is inevitably going in the direction of esports, and we should do what we can to maintain the highest quality, and not fall victim to commodotization and inevitable loss of quality that comes from the so called act of "selling out" and commercialization, lets always strive for better

@banes: Thing is, in person youre not as honest as you are here. In person youd usually not say most of the stuff you do online. Sometimes speaking your mind is a rude thing so you often keep your opinion to yourself.

@senzait: Thats a pretty broad definition, if we go by that way me throwing a jellybear at you could aswell be considered sexual harassement. Aris was making seemingly sexual remarks and discriminating remarks, but it obviously was all for the show. Thats why aris was there. He is a witty guy and in that special case he went over the boarder, but certainly not with harm in mind. He was just making fun and goofying around as usual (u know that if u watch his stream) but didnt notice that she actually felt uncomfortable about it.

@Topic: I loved the matches and despite his somewhat immature comments here, omega did a great job. From what Ive seen, hes actually the weakest of the top 3 nightmares in that tourney, but made up for it with better preparation (rolling that Sieg to counter the other Nightmares - especially Noface who had absolutely no matchup experience about sieg) and a strong spirit. He seemed to be the one to make the least mistakes based on tourney nerves tbh.
I was especially disappointed in Keev. He was ice cold in the qualifiers, ive literally not see him fuck up ONCE, but in top 8 he did alot of mistakes that I guess were done by tournament nerves. Omega on the other hand had nerves of steel and a good battleplan and pulled trough.

God damn that thread was a good read.

Good shit, omega. And thanks to all the players who made reading this thread possible.

Also, comparing a latin american's intelligence to a "tacco" is very racist.

Commentary was awesome. Omega vs akire was sooooooo good.

Overall tourney/matches/stream/aftermath thread...A+

xclamationpoint- Hi!
Yes, I think Killomilli is still on the SC (Tekito too).
Lotsa the old school are still/came back on SCV.
Even Dekka Cho!- he's still gettin up to speed (after not really playin SCIV).

Hard for people to travel/get time off from work (and the money (when it's not paid for)).
English is also a prob.
Hopefully they'll still/continue to go to international comps and get some experience (and rep, haha).

Grey.Wolf- Good! Let me know what you think.

Also, comparing a latin american's intelligence to a "tacco" is very racist.

That was the point. Now imagine me saying it with a big, but friendly grin on my face. Is it still a rassist remark or just a friendly diss? What counts is the intention, not what youre saying. And thats why I said everyone who takes Aris' remarks for face value really has problems on a whole other scale. I mean cmon. You cant honestly be offended by someone thats so obviously and openly fooling around.

So ignorant, racist and bigoted remarks...and things like encouraging people to sniff a woman's chair after she stands...in front of thousands of people and while representing an entire community...

Are ok? Making racist, ethnic jokes against someone you do not even know is ok?

Guess i was just raised differently....in the real world.

In pro sports, they have massive fines and penalties for that stuff. In everyday life, we have brothers, friends, fathers, fists and police who pretty much keep it on lock. The FGC is not some entity exempt from decent humanity, tolerance and respect. You just don't make that sort of remarks to people that you don't know well and have permission of sorts from.

TL:DR-

Grin or not, you are still being a dipshit. This thread is to congratulate our world champions and discuss the event, not flippantly insult them and argue the coolness of public misogynism. Please stop derailing it.

Also, it is "taco".

yo good shit Omega. hanging out with you made the event epic for me except for the dry cornbread. we had some fun with Hyrul too. i like that guy. nofacekiller was lame as fuck with his blue and white strip shirt. but good job though NFK, i knew you would do well. i wish that we didn't get rushed down so hard. lol

But for Omega going through most of the tournament with Sieg(worst character in the game according to the forums) is another entry in his legend resume. If any one doubts his skill after this, i'm just going to slap the shit out of them.

Even though the European players had a head start playing this game with writing the strat guide and stuff, he got the game late and already bridged the gap. That's amazing. Where is that newspaper at with Omega on the front page? i wanna see that shit lol.

commentary was on point. you just had to be there because Rich and Markman fed off the energy of the crowd to keep things hype. next stop is mlg and then evo. see you guys there!
