The Cepheus Store thread

It seems like PS is just including equipment that they want in the game. I mean really, how could they possibly think that the equipment that they're releasing is going to make the players happy? They're releasing these things so that they can earn money, but wouldn't it make more sense to listen to the players so that there's a higher chances of us actually wanting to buy this stuff?
So you are speaking for everyone that the products they have are terrible ?

I'm sure there are some people happy with some of the parts. You don't have to like them, which is the point of DLC

I know it may sound like it, but I wasn't speaking for everyone.
I've heard more negative things about the DLC than positive.

I personally like all the DLC. It has its flaws (flaws I have openly voiced) but it is overall excellent items that have a lot of potential for what they are.

In fact, I am curious as to when we will start getting more special equipment for DLC (not the pacman) for our use. Also, the fact is says "I" on all these packs makes me feel happy to know that more is coming.

I have it on "good authority" that the DLC selling well is going to be responsible for more patches (for balance and casual stuff). So once again, I say, thanks.

PS: Don't get your hopes up about characters or modes.

Harada has stated that there will never be DLC characters for Tekken, likening the character roster in a finished game to a set of chess pieces, where adding new pieces would upset the balance. This is SC5 of course, but seeing as SC5 inches closer and closer to being a Tekken clone I guess this DLC character policy could also spill over.

On the topic of the Cepheus store I'm a bit disappointed. Most of the stuff seems overpriced and/or pointless. The 1P/2p gear could have been useful, but in the form it is offered I don't think it can be used to create really original characters, only pale copies of the character it originated from. I really wish they'd have made all or almost all of them unisex, and chopped each outfit up into as many discrete pieces as possible instead of having a few pieces containg all the layers a character wears. So far the retro helmets is really the only pack I would have contemplated buying, had I not already bought them for SCIV.

Realistically i think character DLC would have been impossible anyway, like literally the game is most likely not built to handle DLC on that massive of a scale. Whole new characters includes things like animations, complex models, voice acting, and all the minor details that comes with altering the game to accommodate them. The only hope for characters would be an actual re-release / expansion AKA "Super SCV" or an Arcade Edition.

But DLC characters? I think that's way too much, all this DLC we're seeing so far was most likely planned out ahead of time and if there were character possibilities that would be the same. From what i heard the models discovered on the disc were just left overs from SC4's engine, they were never intended to be completed or used.

This is what most of us would like, as long as there is some kind of incentive for owning original SC5.

You are correct.

I am curious to the reasoning for this, actually. How would you go about creating an incentive for an original game without detracting from the main one?

I would expect a Super SCV to have all the DLC up to that point, the most up to date patch, and more characters, stages, and/or content. If it were to include everything SCV had and more, the only incentive I see to have the original is for exclusive bonus content for having had game data for SCV.

Edit: Also, is there a possible chance for the cut story DLC to surface here or is that false hope?

In SSF4 if you owned the SF4 disc, you got some exclusive DLC content you'd otherwise have to pay for. Something like that, I'd wager.

So it is not so much an incentive to buy the original as it is a reward for having the original and not just jumping on the bandwagon the moment a new "upgraded" version is released. Sounds fair.

So, I just discovered this a couple minutes ago; feel free to ignore this if you were already aware of it.

There are actually a number of undergarments that are compatible with Viola's dress.
All 4 unitards, the Tear Leotard, Hunter's Suit(though it causes clipping), Triangle Bikini, Tiger Lily Stockings, Undershorts, Cotton Bandage and the Bustier.
So, if you were unaware of this, there ya go. It's not much, but at least it offers for more customization.

Edit: The Merveilleuse Dress is also compatible with the things mentioned above, as well as the Sleeveless Top, Full Leggings, Ring Trousers, Capris, Undershorts, and Black Tights.

Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery good to know, thank you!

And I'm all for my money being used on both patches and such, but I'd be happier to spend more on better quality packs. At the moment, it's very hit and miss, and the Pac Man and Klonea things.. Le Bello just doesn't get it. Maybe I'm not trendy enough or something.

Well that's cool. It's too bad that the black tights aren't compatible with Viola's dress though but hey, all that is better then nothing.

You're welcome. We're perfectly okay with that. If they would bring out dlc characters, they could probably fund 4 or 5 patch updates, because I know a lot of people would pay big for that. A super version would be okay too. I don't like the notion, but I'd buy it anyway.

This is SC5 of course, but seeing as SC5 inches closer and closer to being a Tekken clone I guess this DLC character policy could also spill over.

I do want to point out that this argument from Harada is complete horseshit, for two reasons:

1) The analogy being employed here is a total non-starter because you're stroking your own pole pretty fucking hard if you think your fighting game is as balanced as chess.

2) The fighting games that do provide DLC characters usually do it pretty goddamn well. DLC characters for BlazBlue were very good, and the DLC characters for Mortal Kombat were actually not just better balanced in comparison to a lot of the launch roster, but just very well balanced in general (the latter just went to shit for a variety of different reasons). Just the two most recent examples I have off the top of my head.

Point being, if motherfucking NetherRealm/Midway can release a pretty sizable amount of DLC characters and have it not totally destroy the goddamn game, Harada has a pretty embarrassing estimation of his development team.

The best balanced fighting games aren't the ones that try to have the roster balanced within itself. They're the ones that balance characters on an individual basis, making sure they can do what they're intended to do and do it well at that while not having a real bullshit factor. Anyway, balancing a fighting game isn't really rocket science despite how some developers talk about it; it's mostly common sense and competitive player input.

If they didn't plan for DLC characters, that means they can't do it. Which is disappointing, but fine. The game is alright for having it's development occur at break-neck pace. But this is a situation that needs at least some manner of unfucking, by either releasing DLC characters/styles or just a simple statement via some asshole's Twitter feed about why doing so is impossible. Otherwise it just looks like they're content to sit and watch a lot of people grimace their way through a shit sandwich.

I'm having a really hard time believing they can't at least do DLC styles though. DLC characters requires voice acting, tons of work for the art department, so on. DLC styles would be a lot simpler, and considering they churned out this current roster of almost 30 characters in months and this game is very well balanced for it. Sure, they'd probably get banned at tournaments, but I'm having an even harder time believing that if the DLC wasn't broken/OP that the TOs couldn't take five minutes and put together some not terribad CaS designs for players to use. But whatever.

TL;DR, back to bitching about shitty DLC/bitching at or about people who bitch about shitty DLC.

DLC SUPER VERSION! Like they did with SSFIV:AE only good and with characters people actually want.

:/

Am I the only only pining for a male equivalent to Ivy's armor? I mean the armor she's pretty much always had on her left arm in SCII and female CAS will be getting sooner or later. There's always the manica, but that thing just looks like shit.

Why do chicks always get the good stuff? Male CAS can't even have non-shitty facial hair without using an accessory slot or three, the upcoming pornstache only works for certain characters too

I do love that Ivy gauntlet. Look at the bright side, there is a 99% chance it will be attached to the rest of he upper body clothes and therefore will be left useless for female CAS's anyway!

Whoa. How is this the first time I'm seeing this? When did this come out?

Some of those parts look pretty good, and I'm glad we'll have some ponytails finally.
