I really liked it. Ignore what the dude said about the music. It's actually really good. composed by yuki Kajiura herself which is just under Yoko Kanno in anime composer fame and good works if not right along side her.

but i personally loved the anime. it has some comedy, some drama, some action, and a wonderful plot. and i myself was surprised and happy to see an anime that revolves around a female cast but doesn't bombard the viewers with fan service moments.
Okay cool. :) I personally hate too much fan service so im glad to hear its not that overwhelming. Lol. When I finish Darker than Black season 2, I'll check Mai Hime out.

Ya that review is a joke. Mai-Hime is great, Its one of 24's break out hits that, to me, truly started the Millenniums next generation of anime.

The music is by far one of it's best points, Yuki Kajiura is a goddess among BGM and she dominates this show.

The show has good comedy, romance, slightly ecchi but not over the top , Top of the line animation. I mean it's done by SUNRISE, aka GUNDAM, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, etc... and they are the only company in which their shows have never looked bad. They can have bad shows, but it isn't because of animation quality.
The action is BIG, hugely fantasy and beautiful. The story is OK but the world is awesome and it fills the story out more. Mixed in with all of this is it is TRAGIC. The "rules" behind what they have to go through is sad and it almost made me cry a few times.
It's genre is "Action, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Magic, Mecha, Romance, School, Shoujo Ai " throw that in your pipe and smoke it.

This show is also the take off point for Mai-OTOME which is a sequel, kinda, and changes everything about the show yet keeps so much of it the same, really hard to do that. And Otome goes even bigger and has some of the greatest action sequences in any anime i've ever seen.

God damn i like this franchise.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm sorta new to the anime "scene", only seeing about 8 animes so far. And there's so many more I have to check out. I have a question: I kind of interested in seeing Hellsing. Have you seen it? Because I heard it was very gory. But if I have already seen Elfin Lied,do you think this show is worse in terms of 'violence'?

lol i said 24 breakout, i meant 2004.

I've seen so much anime.........
wanna see a list? http://myanimelist.net/animelist/iwatch2muchanime&status=2&order=0I likst throwing that list around.

Anyway, very few shows are on the same level of Elfen Lied in violence so if you're ever worried another show till top it, it's pretty rare.
Hellsing is pretty good, definitely for it's time. But it's short and has a weird ending.
Also Hellsing ULTIMATE the newer OVA series that's much more violent and has incredible quality to it. I dunno if i'd say it's BETTER than the original but it does go into things the original show didn't so it's interesting.

I'm watching Shiki right now and i'm finding it rather hard to stop myself from watching it all in one sitting. It's probably one of the more interesting vampire animes i've seen for it stays away from the cliches. at least so far because i'm on episode 6 out of twenty-something. I'd like to recommend this anime but i'll finish more of it first.

i'm not necessarily new to the anime scene but i'm pretty specific in what i watch. i don't like the overused and cliche and i want it to catch my interest and be kinda smart. i hated High school of the Dead because of the reeeeally exaggerated fan service. i love the concept of the zombie apocalypse but the fact that it's border line soft core porn really ruins it for me. I loved Black Lagoon because it's centered around an attractive (at least to me) female lead and it really never focused on her "female aspects". it focused on her personality not her looks and i loved that. it's a shame that it's super rare to come across anime like it nowadays.

Wow! So much anime on your list lol. I would take me 15 yrs to catch up lmao. XD and thanks again.

that's similar to me.i don't like fan service overload. Most of the time it's unnessicary. So far my new fave anime is Ramna 1/2 I need to finish it though. Its shocking that there isn't that much fan service, considering the plot. I'm hoping it doesn't change during the end of the series.

While i like anything as long as it's done well, i don't care nor mind any specific genre or trope as long as it can keep it entertaining and on track for what it is.

HoTD was great because it did exactly what set out to do and did it at an extremely good pace, with great quality so...... it's good.

hey animefreak, is there any word of a second season of HoTD, I've read the manga as well, but I haven't seen any updates or anything.

sorry. i kinda over examine everything i watch. i should really be a critique or at least a reviewer. the random-over-the-top fan service in HoTD kept distracting me from what was really going on.

"oh wow. their surrounded by Zombies! how are they gonna-" boob shot. <_<
"Oookay. Well, that girl seems to be good with that wooden sword so she can hold her ow-" Panty shot. >_>

don't even get me started on that sniper scene like in episode 3 or 4. i literally facepalmed. i can't watch it because of the ridiculousness in it. i read through a good chunk of the manga cause it wasn't as bad as the anime. it was... bearable.

Well i need some ideas on something new to watch... Right now, im still watching Detective Conan. Fairy Tail, One Piece and Hunter x hunter but thats really it. And since DCTP has been told to stop subbing Detective Conan, that is becoming very hard to find.

Need some new ideas. Im willing to take a shot at anything really..

Which is why you can be neither lol, the sniper scene was a lesson in animation quality few shows have ever done lol. Sure that doesn't make it good, but it was still good lol.
That's what the show was, at no time was this show a survival horror show. Just because it has zombies and is leading to the apocalypse doesn't mean it's a serious show at all.

No..... there was gonna be a movie but haven't heard anything more on that either. I think it's cancelled yo.

Lol you're already watching the LONG shows that are worth watching.

my anime Nichijou does that infinitely better with 3D and slow mo effects better than batter DDDs around in an unrealistically tight school uniform shirt. :P

lol i know but i would like to get some thing ese that would tie me over till the next episode of the ones i am watching...

watching Shiki. on episode 16. really damn good and i'm pretty picky about my anime. i give this a 5 out of 5 easy and i haven't even finished it yet. no spoilers.

okay. just finished the anime Shiki. I got to say that I was very surprised at the outcome of the series. mainly the last like 10 episodes. some super sad and depressing stuff that made me completely change my view on which side i was rooting for. now that i've seen this anime i can legit rate it. a 5 point rating system.

originality: 5

plot/story: 4.5

characters: over 9000 (seriously though. every character has their own personality and feel like each one of them is important.

artistic style: 5

complexity: 5

English VA: 5
Japanese VA: N/A (watched the whole thing in english.)

overall. a damn good anime that will easily stir up emotion and keep the audience intrigued throughout the whole thing. i actually found it rather hard to stop watching. most-scratch that-ALL of the episodes end with you wanting to know more. see what happened next. heck, i watch the last 10 episodes back to back. i normally never watch anything that long. Shiki is definitely 16+ in the rating department just for it's images and blood/gore but that's it. hardly any cursing involved. and there were no sexual situations at all given that 1 or 2 females had large breast but the anime easily steers clear from the fan service aspect and focuses on the women dressing that way to somewhat live out what they dream of being. Idols or city girls. okay in a nut shell.

Shiki = Top 10 anime-wait-top 5 anime.

I got a question for you anime experts. When you go to download an episode by torrent are there any particular translations (Nipponsei, SubDesu, etc.) you tend to steer towards or do you just pick em until you find one you like for each episode? I went to Otakon in Baltimore this weekend and I'm looking to start on a couple of the series I saw there, namely "Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?" (Is This A Zombie?) and Sora no Otoshimono (Heaven's Lost Property), but I have no idea what the good translations are and don't really wanna waste a few hours downloading an episode with crap quality or something.
