I agree with all of this.
You know what "17 Years in the future" should have meant? = Every character middle aged and in their prime of badassness fighting nightmare for the final fight. Just before the next generation slowly makes its way back in. I mean the old roster all in the most badass Dynastywarrior-exaggerated armour possible.

Then when they die or something and the Soul calibur recreates a new world as Rapheal wanted, they could show it in the character endings (Arcade) should have shown like a baby Naatsu or Baby Leixia being born to get people familiair with the next generation in the making. (Like Inuyasha's ending)

Despite our own reactions to this, if SC5 is getting so much praise then what better reason is there for Namco to actually invest in this series again? I mean, even as unfinished and unbalanced and whatever SCV turned out to be it got the most hype and most outsourced respect in the series oddly.
There may be some hope after all. If this nomination becomes a win, then Namco really needs to consider lending a hand to the series.

That can work also. I also like the ending idea also, similar to Sophitia's ending in SC1 when she gave birth to Pyrrha.

I agree. Just make SCV a proper exit for the veterans, so the next game would be "the next generation". However, Namco has been known to do abruptly do timeskips. Transition from Tekken 2 to Tekken 3 is proof of that. I guess you could count Soul Blade to Soul Calibur too.

Plus the damage has already been done. The most they could do is just make something that describes the states of the veterans. Of course the artbook was a good start, even though it's all in Japanese.

I wish I could read and speak Japanese. I would be a happy person.

You could tell they really wanted to get a good story mode in the game. Why else would you make such a big deal about a huge time gap between 4 and 5, and introduce entirely new characters that would just replace old character styles. Not to mention other story changes like Cervantes is suddenly human again, but they don't explain that at all. Why is Mitsurugi still around? What the hell is up with Zwei and Viola? Why's Raphael still there? They had plenty of potential story lines in there, but it's obvious they were rushed and had to throw a lot of that out the window.

It wouldnt be easy to erase the mistakes. Unless they created an expansion that did what I suggested and just filled the game with progressive story arcs... though I still think was too early for this dramatic event. As they've proven Taking risks on further development of an established series is, well...risky. You may anger your fanbase, or you may open them up to something they never even knew they wanted. You may change a staunch opinion they previously had, or you may cement an opinion among them instead. I think that although they should strive to give the fans what they want, we also shouldn't expect them to sacrifice their own ideas and input and just become robots pushing out OUR ideas for us... Their innovation can easily redeem a franchise that has become stale. I have the same philosophical problem with this concept as I did in SC4, which is that I don't believe the player should be punished for being super good at any part of the game.

we need more maxi's or he needs to spread his seed amongst the little childrens. not only would the game get hella hotter, it'd be more balanced too. if everyone's maxi, then we can't bitch about viola.....we'll just find some new dumb crap to whine about.

(in all seriousness, someone needs to make this happen!)

Does SCV even have a villain?

Night Terror.

At least i would like him to, he's in the Japanese artbook just chillin' in Astral Chaos and liked his secret boss status in SC3.

In response to that video i have conflicted feelings about it. I think in story heavy games like Soul Calibur and Metal Gear, that a progression of time is important so that it feels like events unfold in a natural / normal way. I dont look at it as a bad thing when characters become too old and eventually have to be written out or die, so long as it is done in a satisfying way that provides closure to their story. Which is where i believe Soul Calibur made its mistake. There really wasnt any closure at all because we largely dont know what the hell even happened between the last game and our current one. They simply removed characters that people have grown to love, and replaced them with watered down, carbon copies of what they already were and expected everyone to love them, despite giving us no time to become familiar with them. Which can pretty much be based on the lack of development time.

Like i dont think people would have hated Natsu or Leixia so much if they got time to know them from the start. The development is so key, and we missed out entirely on Xianghua's relationship with Killik which led to Xiba and Leixia, we missed out completely on Natsu's training from Taki. No word about why a Greek holy warrior is proficient in wielding a Japanese blade. What Hilde's purpose is or why she's here. Not mention whatever the hell is going on with Raphael and Nightmare and ZWEI and Viola. Granted some of this was explained in the artbook, but the people who bought the game and expected some clarification got nothing, and still so much is left unanswered.

And in response to his comic book comparison i dont know if that is a good example. I'm not sure of the typical comic market / audience, but i think they tried the whole "killing off and aging characters" thing and it massively and negatively effected their sales. Which is why they almost always get brought back so often via BS explanations and fake outs and parallel universes

They'd have to change several major story elements and therefore potentially rebuild massive bits of the game if they want to brand it as a new thing. Does SCV even have a villain? I stopped considering Nightmare a real threat after SC3.
This is all a part of rebooting a series, it requires a rebuild of story and the overall structure of the game. This can also be bad for the fans if they do it wrong.

If they don't reboot then I say they should just continue the horrible story.
Is this Yun-Seong and Talim?

True, but most of the character designs don't rub me the right way. To many people this game is set in a parallel universe from the original sereies. You may as well consider these characters completly seperate from the original series...
A1MbU.jpg

Somehow I don't think having the story mode be longer would fix the core problem, that being horrible writing. Patroklos kills people because they're pale and filthy. And ZWEI likes to have arguments where he calls people dogs. Almost every scene in the story mode is bad from a writing and story standpoint. Though the complaints people can make about this game are vague, I think we dodged a bullet by them not being able to include the rest. but you know what, If night terror is in the artbook then I actually belive if PS wasn't choking on time SC3 might have been what I wanted considering I and others wanted to relive the SC3 experience bu got everyone's story happened off screen. Xiba's story was supposed to be about him finding Kilik so he can take the Kali Yuga from him and when he shows up in the story mode he already has it. It was pretty obvious huge chunks of that story were missing.
Is this Yun-Seong and Talim
It can be but it was actually just a ramdom picture for visual enphasis. Still, I wonder why they haven't been able to make a good SC story mode since II. It doesn't seem THAT hard, you'd think they'd want to make an extra effort to properly introduce them. Hopefully they'll find some way to make use of the story content that wasn't utilized.
There may be some hope after all. If this nomination becomes a win, then Namco really needs to consider lending a hand to the series.
It sucks but at least in BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend, I enjoyed the stories themselves. The mode is pretty extensive. Each character has a story with branching paths. Most of the characters are genuinely interesting too. Beyond the story mode and other expected single player modes, there's also "Abyss Mode". It's like the Tower mode I guess. You can buy "stat boosts" and stuff for your character and go through a gauntlet. The deeper you go, the harder it gets. There are "boss" encounters and everything. A ton of single player content.

I would rather they have spent the time to get all the hitboxes right and glitches then all of what you guys are talking about. I don't like how during half my combos the sword goes right through Viola. Or how 2A+B goes through people's feet.

Namco didn't let the team see their vision through.

We've only got Daishi's word on this right? If anything Both parties are to blame for publishing an unfinished product.. let alone stopping the support of the game via DLC.... That's called a discourtesy to those fans who enjoyed the monthly DLC and who were hoping for the main rosters DLC to buy....

And if SCV gets nominated for an award: isnt that Good?

It's acceptable to positively criticise NAMCO as well as hope that Namco will lend proper support to Project Soul in the future... If there is one...

I, don't read into Shaolins comment as a negative. I see it as a positive thoughscape.

Does anyone know if Project Soul has disbanded yet? Because surely if they weren't working on another Soul game or more DLC each member would've been assigned to a new project. If they haven't disbanded, maybe they are working on a treat for the fans or something. Idk. lol

I know Namco well enough to believe Project Soul's claim, Namco has never pushed back any title for the sake of polish even when critics suggest it. Why? because they don't care and just want their pockets full. A bad Soul calibur or DBZ game is no skin off their back, these smaller franchises are easy to market but in reality they're just additional cash into to make Tekken their icon. Its the same crisis that went out with Ultimate Tenkaichi. So many changes were made there wasnt enough time to test or revise them because Namco wants to keep their finacal schedule on top priority and lazily rely on their sequels to fix up easy mistakes thus wasting our time and the developer's. I dont blame Project soul because I know they had the content and the track record in positive credits, its Namco that tells them what theire limitations are and I'm sure they knew PS wasnt fully confident releasing a half-assed game considering they never had before. Though since the DLC plug was pulled they have no choice but to take the heat for bullshit Namco forced out purposelessly on purpose.

I dont really see what difference it makes if SC5 is nominated for anything, it says that PS can make good games but it doesn't change the reality here. Namco clearly doesn't see the problem and is probably satisfied with SC5. Soulcalibur has been released last year (years finishes on March 31 on company's calendar) so yeah it naturally boosted the revenue of Namco Bandai Games but why are you surprised with that? Namco Bandai Games is a video games company that must sell games to be able to keep making new ones, they never did care how good they are outside tekken they just have a better history then Crapcom. They though only want to focus on selling as much games as possible and keep satisfying their stock shares from each product... thus I hate them for that. Fans of the actual products are taken out of the solution andreplaced with the easier favouritsm.

Umm what am I supposed to be surprised with or about? Did I mention being surprised about something?

Of course Namco has its own agenda, however Project Soul couldn't meet the deadline- apparently. Daishi screwed up and blames Namco....some fans take Daishi's side... others not... thus we enter into the cycle of Blame and passing the buck. Fans (this one especially) want answers as to why certain things happen- i.e.- why did the DLC suddenly stop.... when we were led to believe it would more or less be continuous for at least a longer time than a few short months... why were wrong decisions allowed to be made regarding the roster... and so on and so forth...

Personally I don't care about nominations, or sales, I care about the game and having the support from the company/ group that created it... and as far as Tekken being their icon- so what? Perhaps the problem is that Tekken hasn't run out of ideas whereas Project Soul has...

What about Namco is there not to blame? Daishi did partly screw up the game with his street fighter interjections but other then that Namco in the end is the one at fault for forcing them to race the clock where as other games like even Dc3 was pushed back almost a year where as Namco couldnt even push SC5 back a month. I dont agree with namco whatsover on this and think their only concern with market schedule is greedy.

Not to mention they had so much time and money leaning towards TTT2 that SCV was likely to be doomed at the start, especially once TTT2 would be released on consoles. With DOA5 around that same month? This will be interesting.

Not putting Harada and the Tekken series at fault whatsoever. It's really Namco's fault and their prioritizing, or what seems like, biased behavior.
