1.03 Tier List Discussion (aka Argument)

Because a video is showing you one dimension of the character... that character fighting another player. No matter how good or how poor each fighter is, you're not seeing all aspects of a character, and you're only seeing one person's playstyle for that character. A tier list is basically gauging potential, and it's very hard to see potential for a character when you're analyzing a player.

Those videos were showing probably the best Setsuka player I've seen, but it's against one other player, and only showing Chang's playstyle.

The only way to determine tiers (and remember, "tiers" are nothing more than a consensus... there's nothing scientific about it) is to look at the tools available to a fighter, and how they stack up comparably with other fighters.

We've talked about Setsuka a lot in her forum and trust me, Plume... we all know you don't think she's top tier, but I don't think you're ever going to get the evidence you're looking for to convince you.
 
If your gaugeing potential then there is no point in argueing .... Yoshi and Algol are undisputed top tier.... On paper Yoshi would destroy anyone in soul calibur with ease... and if he didnt just hit 8A+K,K:K and boom back in the game everytime... No one in the game has the moves or throws like yoshi does... A fairly easy 21 hit wall combo for way over half life... but lol i'm not saying hes top tier anymore because everyone thinks he isnt ( Till they play me or CodeMaster ) then their like oooo he gotta be top tier man... lol but its cool keep thinking hes mid... Soon a yoshi will rise from the ashes to destroy all setsukas, kiliks, voldos, and cassys that remain....

p.s. i'm super **** right now so excuse me if any of this doesnt make sense , just felt like talking haha none of the rest of this thread is too bright either so this shouldnt hurt the discussion too bad... PeAz!

I'm more curious than anything.
The French claim that Setsuka is the best character of the game by far. I want to see why they say so.

Is it because that player is impressive? It is because the ones he fights just play poorly? Or are they all pretty good and that Setsuka is being played in a different manner?
They're the ones who make the most noise about Setsuka being top. It makes me curious.
 
Ill give you Kilik, but Setsuka is not top tier. Not even close! Hilde isnt top mid. This tier list is a damn fool.
 
Calling her the best character in the game by far is a major overstatement... pretty sure most people would agree on that. But most would also agree that her punishment is some of the best in the game, she has some very damaging combos and is in general a very high reward/low risk fighter, her auto-GI is impressive, and she has a decent variety of moves. She also has a long list of favorable matchups.
 
Now that I can agree on. I just think its so much GARBAGE when out of the blue sky people start calling x character the best this or a beast that.

Show ME.

Yoshimitsu is top, hands down. Cass is better than Soph this time IMO. Algol is upper mid.

Where it gets fuzzy is with this Kilik, Amy, Cervy, Liz and Mitsu

Some characters are obviously lacking like Zas, Tira, Rock and Talim, but they are NOT BOTTOM. NO NO NO NO. These characters would be MID. Lower mid at the WORST, with Rock being the worst out of those 4.

Im indifferent on the rest of the cast

Again, the only unusable character in this game is Yoda.

He's glitched in his blocking game, he has poor damage, poor speed and movement and has a CF handicap to boot. He can't win any matchup at all.

Yoda is alone in the low tier.
 
For what it's worth, I've been using Sets for all of like 2 weeks... and did as good or better with her in a local tourney than with a char I've been playing for going on nearly 10 years now, Sophie.

I realize the plural of anecdote is not data, but even without the command necessary to pull off a lot of her JFs I was able to do well(ish) against some VERY good players.

Kilik is #1 by far. Setsuka is a honorable 2nd although Voldo and Hilde may want to have some words with her.

It's really nitpicking, she is top tier in 1.03 no question about it.
 
Wait, some characters actually aren't tournament legal? There is no such thing as being cheap to me and you use everything the game gives you to your arsenal.
