What about all those crystals that seem to be coming from behind the woman? Soul Calibur.

Oh, and those eyes are bleeding. Given the art style, tears would probably be drawn as just simply outlines. So the woman is crying blood as well, I think.
 
Don't take the costume similarity as too convenient. Remember, costumes are designed when the game comes out. Most likely they were referencing images of Sophitia and this came up, leading to a theme with that image as inspiration.

Not denying the theory necessarily but there is only so much developers plan beforehand in words and art without just finding patterns and then making them connect.

Now that you mention it, it does look like Sophitia. Had Sophitia not died during the events of SC4, not to mention the 17 year time skip, I think she would've been the next person to wield Soul Edge. Can you imagine Sophitia wielding Soul Edge and having Cassandra try and find a way to save her? That would've been more interesting than what we were given. Yes, it would've been an Alexandra storyline but at least with this one, it would've made some sense.

That's really cool actually. If you think about, they originally intended to replace Sophitia with Cassandra in SC2. Maybe they planned to go down this road, but scrapped it at the last minute.

Exactly. They wanted to make Sophitia the tragic heroine of the series until Soul Calibur 4, where she was sadly killed off and brought back as the goddess Elysium in Soul Calibur 5. The developers knew this beforehand.
