Can you actually spot a rage quitter?

Everyone acts like having an ego is a bad thing. And while it can be if it causes people to feel that they are entitled to forge a false display of their self percieved skill (i.e. ragequitting to maintain a high win %),

Having a big ego over something as trivial as a video game is never a good thing. When a player has a big ego, usually immature antics follow shortly after, regardless of who won or lost. Either it's you winning making fun of them for crying, or you crying because you lost and they didn't give you a rematch.

I've never been one to be bashing on someone's video game obsessions, but it seems people nowadays have mistakenly incorporated being good at a game as a measure of superiority. That's why I mentioned the fact about other fighting games, there are egotistical players in every gaming community. Do you know or care about them? No, but to them their skill in that game makes them better than you. Probably 85% of the drama in fighting games is due to someone with a big ego taking a loss they didn't think they deserved. It's entertaining, yes, but it gets very sad when people start getting emotionally involved with games.

But spam is the best teacher you can get. You are only denying yourself to improve when you quit these matches.

Spam ISN'T the best teacher.

No I am NOT denying myself to improve when and if I quit those matches.

There are quite a few guys in GC who can teach one to become more effective as a player by giving advice after a game and by training them in a positive approach.

Besides, gaming online is simply fraught with too many unreliable variables... connection instantly springs to mind.

Spam cheapens the character that someone may want to learn at a later stage. And Spam also makes you avoid recognised screen names who Spam. If someone truly loved and enjoyed Soul Calibur the series..... They wouldn't spam- they would GAME.

I had that in GC last night- an A1 playing NM got totally miffed by being beaten by a C3 playing Natsu... twice. I recieved lots of abuse, lots of excuses as to why he lost. I'm not the best gamer around I'm basically average and GC isn't my favourite forum to play in. But online drama and bruised egoes - I really don't need it.

It totally is the best teacher.
When i play against someone who abuses a certain move, i can figure out ten times faster how to beat that strategy. When i play against someone who only uses it once or twice i have to fight him way more often until i can find a way around it, obviously because he is using it less frequently.

Dont make excuses, if you lose to spam and you cant figure out how to beat it, you lack fundamentals (Which is not a bad thing btw, it just shows you where you have to improve).

Could be to some degree. E.g. in an fps the other fellow may show better reflexes, better spatial awareness, ability to act normally even in desperate / unfavourable situations and yada yada. If someone constantly beats someone in a single fps title, I know who I'm going to bet on when they play some other fps title. : 3

And no need to belittle video games that much. You can see grown men crying, when a national level sports game is decided. The papers may write that the nation must recoup from this, people take some time off from work, all for the sake of a game. I guess you be hating on these people :b

Somehow this just gives the impression of a whine thread, going to avoid those comments of spam.

Ok.. I'll bite.

In a nutshell: You're assuming quite a lot. However, for your benefit, I shall write very, very slowly.

Spam is like copying and pasting: it's a bad habit, its convenience and sheer laziness.

Spam is not gaming: its not strategy, it's not skill. It just shows a lack of integrity in that persons nature.

If someone wants to learn how to improve themselves as a gamer: a spammer is not the way forward. They should go to people like Haxinsheep who is a great role model and teacher.

Win or lose to spam- is actually NOT the issue.

You like to game spammers. Fine.

I, do not.

Anything you do not understand that I have written- please don't hesitate to meditate on my words until it sinks in.

Capiche?

There are two kinds of spam and players that use it. The bad kind and the good kind. A bad spammer spams because he knows nothing else, against those you learn nothing and just take your free win.

The good kind, analyzes his opponent and uses a tactic thats efficient against him or his char. He applies a certain move very often in situations where its smart because it is efficient. If you learn to beat that, you can become a much better player.

Also please stop being so arrogant, all my posts were down to earth. No need to feel so offended.

Guys guys we all know that there are imaginary rules that we have to abide by in order to not lose our "integrity" and "honor".

Follow these imaginary rules and you will be on the path to being recognized as the King of Scrubs Good Players:

1. No Spamming
2. No Being Cheap
3. No Ring Outs
4. No Relying on Grabs/Throws
5. No Overkills/Teabagging/Taunting

These rules will soon be tournament standard.

I want in on this...

In a fighting game, it's all about doing whatever it takes to win. If you hate spam, you gotta get around it. Good players always seek help to get by it. The fact you're gonna cling on to spamming= disrespectful tactic clearly shows you haven't embraced the competition to improve.

So we should hold hands be more like "hey, it's alright. take my hand and shake on it?"

Ummmmm no....and I'm usually the nicest dude around here. So yeah, grow some balls and improve to get on their level. They aren't egotistical because they're jerks, they're just confident in their abilities. Seriously, confidence =/= egotism. Egotism would be overestimating yourself.

Right now, I just know if I were some random troll I would so offend you. Why? You cling on to this carebear drama bs. Drop it and fight with all you have or leave the fighting game scene to people worth it. Why should I for instance go by your logic?

Might as well tell the whole world. Hey don't make fun of that honda civic guy, he lost to a hot rod but he was brave. Don't punch the guy in the face, that isn't true boxing. Seriously, you two need to get a grip.

Honestly, this post from you made absolutely no sense. All I got from it was "It's not being Egotistical telling other people you're superior, it's just... showing confidence!" (Re-labeling words) "If I was a troll I would attack you now over your comment!" Nice to know. "I won't follow your mature logic, games are about beating others and feeling awesome about yourself even if you lack real life accomplishments!" "Honda civic lost to hot rod, punch him in the face!"

Ok...?

Confidence comes from satisfaction derived of one's accomplishments, and a self measure of how good you are. Egotism comes from a false predisposition (or delusion) that you are somehow superior to others. Egotism is not about personal measure, it's about personal indulgence. There is a very fine line between "Confidence" and "Egotism".

What if you are just plain old better, and that superiority is called into question?

Should you be factual and state said superiority, or be humble and lie?

Consider this with the perquisite that you are aware of your skill level. Keep this in mind though, if I ask my would-be opponent if they are good, and they respond with no? I will leave that pitiful bastard alone and go search for some more fun people to challenge me.

Either way, I have no idea who the two posters above me are, but Calibur Bladez, if his post made zero sense to you;then just give up and leave. I think one of you two is wrong... but you both still make some sense.

On the topic of spam; I like to play flashy, and I don't think spam is flashy. If my opponent spams though, I'll gleefully accept the free win.

Here's the thing you're failing to realize. Egotism is overestimating the abilities of yourself. We all do it just to get some competition rolling. However if you've got the skills, you deserve to flaunt every bit of your ego. Right now, I can flaunt I'm better than you simply because I'm not bothered by simple smack talk of bragging rights.

You are because you think it sounds too "in your face" or whatever your spineless brain thinks. If you can't accept egotism as some inevitable thing, you are a pussy. You don't deserve my respect as a player if you're caught up with "it's just a game and we should have fun with it with no egotism". Well no dip sherlock, it's very nice of you to point out something so redundant and subjective.

You're only option at this point is to play me online and get wrecked and/or wreck me. But no, I apparently am a big jerk for saying "I'm better than you" so now you're probably gonna avoid me and rag on my jerk behavior. Just goes to show you're not worth my time if you aren't willing to show off your competitive side....

If somebody has over 90%, over 500 wins, and are anything but a maxed or near maxed A1, they are probably going to rage quit, because everytime they rage quit their rank goes down a bit.
I pretty much stopped with Ranked thanks to these scrubs, though don't really mind as I've found much better comp elsewhere who have the right mindset to progress. Granted I didn't play that deeply into it, but I'm actually on the opposite side of this one. I just played until the D1 Rank to 1k the game for fun and went 51-0. Thing is, I played damn near 80-85 matches, literally. More or less jipped out of 30 or so wins this early on, I kind of saw how this would go down the road and let it be. If RQ on it'd be nice to at least get the win, but it is what it is.

And just for the record, I have FiOS service of 40mpbs down/up which tested against the rest of the United States is in the top 1%, so it's sure as hell not lag. Play style wise I'm an OG SCII competitive player. I have thousands of just guards, rely on mix ups that require JF's and play to be creative. So they're not losing to anything "lame" and such, they're just... scrubs. Sad to see so many of them on this game still, though luckily it seems to be dying down some.

Exactly, egotism usually degrades into name calling, threats, and angry retorts, such as this rant paragraph I quoted.

I'm sorry Koko you somehow interpreted my explanation for the contrasting differences between competitive behaviors and egotistical behavior, to somehow assume it was a personal attack against yourself. I'm sorry you aren't mature enough to have a discussion like a civil adult without name calling and using phrases like "You're a pussy!" and "spineless brain!", very mature.

Say I said, I think I'm superior to you because I make more money than you? That's confidence, simply just knowing that makes me feel content. But, Egotism is me actually taking the time to walk up to your face, put my bank statement in your face, and say "Koko, look, do you see I am better than you?" But in your argument, you're saying basically it's ok for me to act like the latter example, for the simple fact that I do make more money than you?

You begin to see how flawed your statements are. It's not a matter of just being better, it's a matter of maturity and respect. So the only thing that you can say you hold over a raging scrub is the fact you can beat them? But as far as personalities and attitude, you both act alike?
