Challenge... Lost Culture

Ok, i'll see what i can do, i even have a replay vid of my match Tupakan against sir Le Bello i could record...

Classic guardian-statue-machine left there by the usual fucking "ancients"
The type that when you go in some tomb and find a treasure to steal, it start move and you understand that shit just got real :D

This has got to be my favorite one you've done so far.

Can we do a proper match and upload that so I can kick your butt and everyone stops thinking I'm terrible because I let you win for stances 95% of the time? :P <3

Now now now...tsss...tsss...tsss...95% of the time, our last no holds barred tipped in my favour, doncha remember ?
Still i think you are a better player than me now, at least you train and are very good with brave edges and pull off very nice combos, but that is not the point

This battle looks very nice even if it was staged, but i admit i fought against an old man that had no mean to rival the mighty Tupakan :P
But i will not post it, all right, mon ami...

I am still working on my mayans actually, tweaking, doing some more research that will inevitably lead to 1 or 2 more CAS. Now that i have done king, warrior, priest and priestess, i still have the mayan god incarnations to explore, all WIP...

I'll try to post them soon, along with a few vids where you can see me fighting my own mayans...i got some nice ideas for staged fights, like Columbus Sieg vs Balam Sieg for instance ;o)

@Gatsu : hilarious whacko contraption, nice, i thought the same exactly, could be some kind of deadly guardian for a temple in an ancient city of gold ! i am not and never have been a fan of the drum stuff though, but that gives me some ideas of potential use nonetheless...like it !

Then it needs a "twin" brother, but in blue. Both change element each turn LOL

After Balam the Jaguar Warrior, Tupakan the sacrificial priest, Quezacoatl the sexy Worshipper of the feathered serpent, Machu Pichu the overfed King, here comes

Yum Kimil, Mayan god of Death (true ! if one believes in ancient gods that is)

I figured that even if i wrote hundreds of lines of design notes over the many pages of my now many threads (lol), i never ever actually produced the "roughs" of a CAS in the making, like concepts that did not make it to the final "product".

I experimented a lot of things and advanced techniques along the way to produce the proper mayan / godlike / death theme effect...and ended up with something that has a lot of R&D and work put into it)

Quick update on Machu Pichu to match the thumbnail :o) :

My very first post a Mycenaean warrior

There is obviously a lot of work here, from the headdress to the various little patterns and details.
Maybe a bit overpatterned if you ask me.
Nice mud effect on the skin too.

Looks legit and authentic to me

yeah, great job on the bump maps, i have used bump maps on Yum kimil a lot, especially on the face (i made another slightly less busy version, i'll have to repost)...

Like...there is a sun sticker to do the details on top of the skull mask and give it a supernatural part flesh, part bone, part gold look...a moon to do the bottom of the golden headdress, i though the eye sticker was a bit out of place so i removed it in 2.0...those stickers rule lol

Ok, i have been working on the vids and will be posting them later, here are the mayan CAS (new one and updated versions) featured in the vids (plus guest character, a couple of bonus CAS will be featured in the vids as well, surpriiiise)

Those were me vs CPU on hard (and hard it was, but without lag, at least i could get my inputs, combos and traps right !)

Those will be posted in my main thread though in the form of a playlist, so please view / comment / dribble there when they are up...

When I started this thread one of the things in the back of my head was cultural patterning.
I am over simplifying this but ... I had a book once that demonstrated how you could tell something about the environment of a civilization by the types of lines used in their patterns. If the culture was on the plains or a desert you would see a lot of horizontal straight lines ... near water swirls .... and so on ...
So I am very happy that the CASs here do such a good job of breaking away from the modern looking stickers provided. With layering and positioning, I feel like they have been altered to feel more unique and specific to a people and a time.
:)
