Matchup Discussion Thread

Certain moves that you should and shouldn't use against Asta 66K BE:
1B BE, 3A, 1B, 3B, 66A all lose to the armor and get launched.

2nd hit of 22AB beats it clean.
Sometimes the 2nd hit of BB trades with the revenge launch.

66B, 66A+B, 66K beat it clean. 66K is pretty godlike in this matchup since he doesn't punish -16 well

If you're stepping when he does the BE, block to avoid getting hit by its broken hitbox. Then you can whiff punish the 2nd hit of the BE.

Dealing with Tira WR BK on block:
WR B is -16
WR BK's second hit is interruptable by i24 or faster (i25 trades)

At a close range block, this is a free 6B BE or 66K. If she does the kick followup, 66K will CH and allow tech trap/dead trap oki mixups.
At mid range near tip, 6B BE and 66K will whiff. 3A or 3K are your best bets here.
At absolute tip range, everything whiffs. On the plus side, you can make her block a tip range 3B and if she does anything else besides JG or GI she gets hit.

1B+K STCs under all of Yoshi's 44b options (44bB, 44bA, 44B).

Keep in mind that deathcopter and 66A+B are painful options if he predicts it coming and does 44bB, which should leave him enough time to step or even pogo/dragonfly over 1B+K.

Just some non-comprehensive notes for certain moves versus Maxi stances:
66B on block (~LI)
→ 66K beats LI A_LI A BE, LI K, LI B+K, loses to LI B. There's enough time to block full charge LI (B) but I can't seem to JG it. If anyone has success with this, please tell me.
→ Slightly delayed 66K beats LI B (all charges), LI B+K, depending how long you delayed it it can lose or beat LI A. If you do it too fast it won't do 66K out of a forward dash, which realigns enough to hit LI B's tech step.
→ 44A beats all options except LI B+K.
Recommended option: 44A. It only loses to LI B+K, which you can bait out for free 663B combos.

1B on block (~RO)
→ 2A beats RO A series, RO B, loses to RO B+K and RO K series.
→ 66K beats RO A series, RO B+K, RO K series, loses to RO B
→ 44A beats RO A series, RO K series (you get air hit 44A → SW K for 54 damage), loses to RO B and RO B+K.
Recommended option: 66K. It only loses to RO B, which you can bait out and punish with 66K or CE.
Note that none of these options beat 1B into guard and blocked 66K is bad news against Maxi.

6A on block (~RO)
→ AA beats all options, punishes 6A → G. Doesn't work at far tip range.
→ 33B beats RO A series and RO B+K, loses to everything else.
→ 4b+kG beats RO K series and RO B+K, only gets hit out of the air by RO AK's 2nd hit and RO B, with no additional combo opportunity for Maxi. He can make 4b+kG hurt when it gets blocked, though.

Keep in mind Xiba can't punish 3B for shit and REM becomes a lot less threatening.

Aeon's 2A is also one of the ones that interrupts all channeling kick transitions (6A/6B/A+BB) and 66K will beat all post-3B/3(B) options except 3B into guard. 33B will also stop all options except 3B into guard and 3BKK.

I haven't been here in a while....but I already posted some info on this particular transition. Here check it out. It's not much but at the time I didn't have a lot of time to type everything I had.

P.S. That avatar is awesome!

can I get some help with Pyrrha Omega? it feels like I can't punish anything, everything I throw out gets interrupted and shit hits the fan whenever my back's against the wall and the pressure just starts to pile on

Keep your distance. Omega's range is ok but she has no good mixups at range, just keep in mind that she will crush your guard if you block to many of her attacks. Make her whiff with backstep into 3B oder sidesteps if you read a stab. Also punish every of her stabs when blocked.

At close range she can play mid/throw so be ready to break her dangerous throws. Her lows aren't scary att all. 1K and 2K are hard to react but they don't do much damage. Use fast moves after blocked attacks because her i13 CE is easily one of the best in the game and is used as a trametrap often by her. Omegas CE and GIs are her best methods to spend meter so be aware of GI into CE if she has the meter, don't use a string that is easy to GI. 4B is plus on block so don't attack after it.

If she traps you in a corner use one of your throws to reverse the positions. In general you should play defensive against her and try to rely on punishment expect you have the momentum and a large health advantage on your side.

Hope that helps a bit

it really feels as if 4B is my main problem, throws are a pain, so I'll try and find a way to deal with that as is comes along.

but if there's one way I could sum up my plight it would be in this vid:

now I just want to point out that while it was a hard earned victory for my opponent...I think, and I have beaten him on many occasions (which is besides the point) its like I have to work much more harder than I have to and it feels like I'm missing something in this matchup.
