Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

I think Soul Calibur 6 needs to refocus its game-play mechanics and stick to it for future installments. I would like to see a few returning characters that didn't make their way into 5, especially Amy. The online match system in SC5 reminds me of the one from Tekken 6 which I didn't like very much but that's preference.. If they could somehow reincorporate night terror that would be pretty cool.

Congrats on being the first person to ever want Amy back.

You win nothing.

Wait... this guy?! (>O____O)
It took me forever to beat this guy on hard mode. (>P_P) Please stay in Astral Chaos forever... Umm, good luck Algol, Edgemaster, Cassy!

Idk about that, they already released him in SCIII & if I had to see him again & fight him on SCVI I wouldn't be surprised anymore like how I was in SCIII. He may have been a good challenge (Like Colossus) but bringing them back for me to knock down again would kinda be a bit lame imo.

Hopefully they don't dumb down the mechanics even more than they did from SC4--->SC5
That's what pisses me off about some people. When they say offline isn't a challenge or non competitive, there excuse is because the AI's are dumb about certain moves that people could spam. I kinda don't give them the full blame, but then again if you know a cheap trick, why do it? Your just making it boring for you. Which is why I hated it how Legendary Souls had nothing but ring out stages. If it didn't I probably would of been one of the top 3 people for fastest time (7:18 mins; no ring outs, no spams). Another thing that should be done is health options. It ain't easy when you give your AI enemies 2 bars of Hp & giving yourself half. I loved challenging myself like that.

Remember how hard SCII Ai's were? I remember getting GI'd 90% of the time.

i wish Soul Calibur would be more creative with the characters. SC5 had very boring new characters. ZWEI was promising but i think he falls short. i think Soul Calibur takes pride in being serious with the story and characters but if youre willing to put Yoda and Link in your game you shouldnt be afraid to change it up.

take a page out of Tekken's book. i think Tekken by far has the most genuinely unique and interesting characters. take a look at the Tekken Revolution poll for example:
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2013/...ombie-oh-my-tekken-revolution-character-poll/

its unfortunate that Soul Calibur is tethered by their storyline and the characters need a clear cut reason to be involved. other fighting games just have simple fighting tournaments or purposely undermine the story in order to be inventive.

I hate to admit it but in the grand scheme of things, I think you're right. One of the reasons why I loved Soul Calibur was for their character designs. There were a few I liked in SC5 but they were mostly for the returning characters plus Z.W.E.I. and Viola. Everyone else was a little on the bland side or the "It's cool but not amazing" category in my mind.

I agree about the Tekken comment too. They may have a crap ton of characters but most of them are really unique and intricate. And that's awesome how they are letting fans give their input for another character. SC should consider something like this.

I'm also going to add Virtua Fighter to the mix. Yes, the characters are bland and boring in personality but I have to admit, their designs are awesome and unique (some better then others). Also including King of fighters 2006. :)

I think the characters introduced in Soul Calibur V were a little too archetypical. As though they mixed and matched a few elements for the bases of the characters, but they forgot to ingrain details that give a character enough personality to carry a story.

Even the group Maxi was babysitting seemed confused as to what they were doing, "What are you talking about? We're the eater, the inexplicably plucky see-the-world girl, and the... the cocky ninja. What more do we have to do except eat, see the world, and be... cocky? Oh, advance the plot? Well okay, but only if we can get it over with in like two seconds, and then go back to what we were doing before."

Then Maxi shrugs because he has no idea what they're doing either. "Also why am I still Elvis?"

To be perfectly honest, this may just be me remembering poorly because I haven't played the story since release day.

I still remember finishing it and saying, Whoa...! I'm never playing that again!

i think we're pretty spot on on why Soul Calibur 5 and maybe Soul Calibur in general has fallen short.

theres this huge potential for character design but like i said they seem to be tethered by this strict storyline and rely on cheesy undesirable personalities.

Ryuhza mentioned Xiba as "the eater" and Natsu as "the cocky ninja". honestly these personalities could work if they were reflected into their fighting styles. what if Xiba was a little overweight and had a few body thrusting attacks (kinda like Bob in Tekken or Rufus in SSF4). and what if Natsu had taunts all throughout her attacks.
suddenly theyre not cheesy anymore and actually pretty interesting.
maybe Viola instead of being combo heavy, could have more counter hit attacks or guard impacts to reflect the fact that shes a fortune teller. maybe ZWEI could scrap EIN and himself be partially a werewolf equipped with beastly, claw attacks.

characters like Asta, Voldo, Raph, Lizardman and Tira are successful because they connect their personality to their fighting styles.

I agree and your ideas for the character movesets are interesting Goose.

It's weird because when you look at Soul Calibur, the characters of the series before V did fall short compared to a few other fighting game characters but their personalities and unique designs are what made them stand out and be remembered. That's how I felt with Ivy when I first saw her in SC2. She sounded arrogant but professional and was in control and her moveset in that game reflected that, especially when it came to her whip moves. And wholeheartedly agree with Tira, Raphael, and Voldo.

Who knows? Maybe they'll fix things up in SC6. :)

Well since I'm jumping late into this post, I hope they keep some features of SCV and maybe bring back some characters that many of us miss. Personally, I would at least like them bring back Zasalamel, Talim and Yun-Seong. Algol I think should of been gone, he was a boss character and in previous games, boss characters never stuck around next game.

Zasy was SC3's boss. I mostly agree with you, but I'm fine with Algol coming back.

Talim and Zas <3 Especially Talim. Yun-Seong's okay too.

Technically, Zas was only the sub-boss. The real boss was either Abyss or Night Terror, and neither of them have shown their (cutie-pie) faces since Soul Calibur III.

I didn't think of Zasalamel as a sub-boss. I just thought he was a new edition, just like Setsuka. I do hope they keep Night Terror away though. Bad juju. Lol

Well I'm glad that someone agrees with me on something. I liked Yun-Seong because he was quirky and just overly confident.

Mhmmm Viola with auto GI's AND her current state? I could do so many things...
