Raphael Video Discussion

my only contribution is that the higher rank I fight against, the more happy they are to roll around on the ground after 66A+B BT B rather than try to get up (thus limiting 44A+B chances).

I have been implementing this odd oki situations after my 66A+B hits, when i know they will roll i typically do 11K or 11BB after my BT B hits, this kills their roll and gives them incentive to get up next time. For some dumb reason people can tech after the first 11B ground hit though. I enjoy this character but I have not truly tapped into his real shit yet.

I don't wanna start this, but for the record, do you still play this game, Mandritti?

Well, if anyone is interested, me and a buddy are recording some live commentary games. I heard YouTube hasn't got enough of those yet.

First, test, ones came out pretty damn good;I want something polished for my first post with talking though.

I kinda wana post the one we did earlier just because I called about 100x things right before they happened. Always good to feel boss.

Some online sessions for your amusement
Against slayer. Don't be afraid to trade upclose 6BBB/2K/2A/3A/6K against other characters. I abhor that strat generally, but when opponents disrespects your frames its free damage.
moonlight sonata? Totally CH'd me since I thought he woudl freeze up and allow me to mixup/poke. 6BB BE hit confirm is wonderful.
don't recall the name, but I played a few on ranked against his Leixia and Xiba
I initially had trouble stepping Leixia's 66BB but once you look for it it's relatively rewarding online.

Vs xicott.
You can tell I react VERY slowly to whiffs because I hate moving into an opponent's attack. I also didnt' like being on the recieving end of 44Bs
A couple matches against hellbourne's hilde. Can be boring and I fail horribly at baiting prep4 aGIs.

Yo HellBornChaos I played his Hilde a couple of times but I always won our matches by clutching it out in poke wars usually.

I met a pretty awesome Hilde a little while back. After I beat the guy in ranked he complained about the connection and I was like "Yeah, it's shitty, but whatever..." (Thinking, good connection or not - I keel yoo.)

Then we did some private matches a few days later and it was 5x C2B loop combos every time I so much as thought about puppies for one nano second, or misjudged a B+K / Prep 4.

Fucking love puppies. They're the shit.

Hi guys, I played a bit of Raph at EVO to some success and here are the matches where I used him.

Me VS MeanGreenToker (I made the Raph switch down 0-1) Go to 1:45:15

Me VS Black Mamba

Jimbo, beautiful Raph!! I had to smile as I watched you take out three unfavorable opponents: Mitsu, Astaroth, and Pyrrha. Nice use of 66B against mist stance, 6BBB/BE especially against his 4B. I think 4B has realignment on QS. Can't comment on the other matchups because the video kept freezing on my laptop. Great job man.

Wonder what jimbo's opinion on raph is strength wise. I really don't believe he is made out to be the worst in the game as some people say, Even I have beaten some fairly strong opponents with my raph. Good to see raph get represented

I really like Raph, like as of right now I'd consider both him and Ezio on equal footing in terms of mains. You will definitely see him at Summerjam. He is a total pain in the ass to fight especially if you are turtly, i find him an excellent character to use to get people to open up and do dumb stuff. And that range+speed hrrrrrrrrrrrng.

I'll be honest, all this talk of superior tourney play;I'm not seeing it.

I know this sounds dick-heady as fuck, so can you point out some things during the matches that I should be looking out for? Your grabs were decent, but only because this guy (Mitsu,) doesn't know how to correctly break them based on positioning.

Raphael's strongest aspect is his aGI game (count what % of his moves were equal speed verticals,) and I didn't see anything worth noting, you also slipped up on several needle chances - including into wall game. I don't mean this retrospectively, but as something I noticed as the match went on.

You are definably above average as a player, so I am only pointing this out because of recent discussions we've had about how much better tourney players are. I wouldn't say this to anyone else but to you, after you talked the talk.

I'll upload some matches soon so you can return the favor, and see how my Raph game has evolved. Just remember that his moves are a lot more varied than at first glance, and he is impossible to step if you play the correct game.

PS: Don't 22B much vs Mitsu, it's one of the worst moves to use against him if he is playing a horizontal game. I think I pointed this out to you in chat recently, but Mitsu retracks in such a way that he can 22B any 22B from you with even late timing.

PPS: I have seen many tourney videos that have blown my mind, but those were usually in the finals. I don't see how four-five good players elevate the entire turn-out into greatness.

That Mitsu player dug his own grave the moment he accepted the zoning contest...
Impressive, Jimbo, I like how there was no superflous move in your playstyle.
Are you, like, naturally patient or did it take a lot of discipline ?
