How can Online Team Battles Work?

After playing certain co-op games (like Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate), I've been wondering how can team-ups work in Soul Calibur. Here, we will discuss how they can successfully (or horribly) pull-off a co-op mechanic in online bouts...

Let's have some BGM...

Okay, let's get started...

1. Tag Team
In SC4, where in the Tower of the Lost Souls, there were challenges where you can pick more than one person. You could switch by pressing a button, and let the person who you withdrew slowly regain health. I bet a lot people were wondering "Why can't we do that online?"! If this mechanic was brought back for online multi-player, I would wonder if this tag feature could work like this:
A: When the fighting player is switching out, the next player is immediately brought out.
or
B: Both Players have to agree to the switch!
2. Line-up
In SC2 and SC3 Chronicles of the Swords mode, when there were teams, fighter were lined up in a certain order. The next fighter is brought out when the first is defeated. My only worry about this if it was applied to online mutli-player is if the lead player is so good that the people next in line don't get a chance to fight.
3. Pick Your Team
This can go in on of two ways:
A: Players would be randomly assigned to teams.
or
B: Players could pick the team they want to be on! The only problem I could see with this is the everyone would want to side with the strongest player.
4. Bring out Everybody at Once
This one might be a bit risky, but I think it could be crazy enough to work (or fail miserably)! If you've played something like Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2, you would know what I'm talking about. It can allow 4-player mayhem where there can be match-ups consisting of 2-on-2, 3-on-1, 2-on-1-on-1, or free-for-all. Player could switch targets with a button press! I wonder if this sort of thing could work well for Soul Calibur. If camera is an issue, each player could have their own camera to avoid issues. Arenas could be enlarged to accommodate this!
5. 1-on-1 Teams
What I mean by this is that players could have duels as usual, but instead of rounds, each player could pick a certain amount of fighters. I wonder if this could be done with Tag Team or Line-up style of teams.

Now the only question is what will be the maximum number of players.

Like..? The only 3D fighters that have done this are DoA, which is very different from SC; and Tekken, which can barely be called a 3D fighter.

Does ANYONE remember they had team battles in Soul Calibur 4? It wasn't tag team, but it worked like KOF, you KO'ed one opponent and the next in line would jump out. It was cool, like keeping the flow of the match!

Imagine how badass you would be to be online and beat all 3 of a player's characters with just one? Probably it would be 2 round up = the winner, as best of 2 out of 3 would win the match. They could totally do it! It's not even tag swapping, or tag combo'ing.

Wrong. You could actually tag freely between characters, the only limitation was the tag gauge at the bottom of the screen.

My only concern with tagging in a SC game is that rushdown would be favored even more than it already is, and I just don't think that's the kind of game this is. And besides, imagine how ridiculous the damage would be. Just thinking of an Astaroth/Viola team combo makes me cry.

Then don't make it a rushdown style of tag-out match. Make it like how I just said above... xD Team order, the player who has all 3 of their characters defeated loses, goes to round 2, goes best 2 out of 3. King of Fighters doesn't have tag out matches, but it works fine since the winning character barely gets healed.

I see what you're saying... That could actually work. But I'm still not sure, it would probably make the entire game feel like Edge Master. It would be nice as an extra game mode though.

It's good to hear your thoughts on Tag-Team and Line-Up, but what about the other possibilities I've listed earlier?

Um.

Maybe it could work if it split the players into two teams. For example
Team 1 Team 2
- Ivy -Patroklos
- Cervantes -Pyrrha

Let's say it's Ivy vs Patroklos and Ivy wins

Team 1 Team 2
- Ivy -Patroklos
- Cervantes -Pyrrha

Then he would be eliminated and Pyrrha would take his place. Kinda like SC2 Team Battle and instead of the switching going on at the same time as the match, it works the same way regular matches work in Player Match.

The team who defeats all the other players in the other team wins.

Don't hate me.

They have already discussed this type of team up earlier, but you're okay. The line-up style seems to be the one everybody seems to be in agreement with.

Considering they had team battle in Soul Caliburs 1 & 2, it wouldn't be very hard to put it back in...

I used to play team battle on my friends Dreamcast in SCI, which was very enjoyable and I do hope they put it back in, I was wanting it in SCV, but that, along with a lot of other promised stuff, didn't happen.

Team battles incorporating multiple players on the same team probably won't work for online due to connection problems and lag and such. Lineup style with one player controlling one team is definitely a better alternative.

With that said, team battle is a definite recommendation for offline multiplayer! :D
