Zink Imp
[08] Mercenary
I've been playing a lot of SC2HD because I love this game. The fighting is wonderful, gameplay is solid and the characters are great. After coming back to SC, I had an itch to play some SCV.
And...to be honest this game just isn't all that.
The gameplay is the worst offender. I made a topic a while back about the gameplay being very linear, and I didn't see a whole lot of intelligent posts and actually discussing the matter. After going through every character and see what they can do, I've noticed that characters are really only subjected to one road of combos and setups. When I play Pyrrha in SC5 I'm very limited to what to do compared to what I could've done with Sophitia. Of course this is vice versa. When playing online I know exactly what is going to happen if I'm hit by a particular move. And this can go with any character. Even when I watch "pros" playing the game I see the same stuff what I see online.
When I played SC4 online, I could know what a character might do, yeah, but there was still room for some surprise. Not in SC5. When playing a game like Tekken, and I'm against, say, a King player, I'm smart enough to watch for the knee. But I also have to worry about grapples and low kicks. If I'm playing SF and I'm against a Cammy, I have to watch for random spiral arrows and potential air throwing. When I'm against a Yoshimitsu in SCV. I know that I'll be thrown into a combo with his door knocker. Of I'm playing Maxi I'll expect something with his venom wings. It's just not fun.
You might think that I'm complaining about losing but I'm actually pretty good at this game. And when I know what to expect I can counter attack. But it just gets repetitive and boring.
In short, I think the "deep competitive" gameplay of SCV just isn't that good and past SC games had more variety.
I'll share more deeper thoughts later, but what do you guys think?
