Missing character discussion

I'm glad that Nightmare has been able to survive since his inception in Soul Blade. He's too much of a staple character to be dismissed at this point. Though, same could be said of the other missing characters (Taki, Sophitia, etc.). Though, I do like that Namco took a risk and did a generational shift with SoulCalibur V. The game is good and while we do miss our characters, there are some who are modified versions of previous ones that are still there. I feel that for the missing characters that didn't make SC5, they should have used their styles of CaS.

Taki -- Already explained by everyone else.

Seriously, I want all characters to return. (look at Tekken, Street Fighter). Even Mortal Kombat had to do a loop back to the beginning so everyone can play their characters
Tekken creates Non-Canon games, which Tekken Tag Tournament series is.

But just let Namco give SC another reboot so people can shut up already. At this point, it's evident that people don't like change. Even when the game was released how long ago?

Change isn't always a bad thing and a lot of us can adjust to it, especially when it comes to games. I mean, hell, while I wasn't a big Devil May Cry person, I did play the reboot and despite a few things, I didn't think it was beyond horrid, just different.

Recently started playing this game again (SCV) And i recently downloaded SCIIHD, and i'm shocked how many characters are MIA. Why did they remove Cassandra? She was the only character i played, she was always the character i felt safe with. She's not even mentioned in the sotry, it's like Namco were trying to forget about her on purpose.

More like Daishi was trying to forget her on purpose. He's gone now, so we'll see what happens in the future.

She is in the Astral Chaos, a place where she cannot age anymore. It is a good way to make her appearing in SC VI . I hope for some change to Cassandra personality, because of her sister/family death etc ...

Do you really think Daishi was trying to get rid of her?
It sucks she's not in the game though, I really wanted to play as her in HD.

Again with the no aging thing? I swear, I'm getting tired of that. xD I'm hoping they're going to revamp the series and cut out certain things that happened in 5. But, I'm sure they won't and I'll learn to accept it. I'm only speaking for myself here though. ^^;

Yeah guess there are few probabilities for that kind of changes, but half of the missing character are still there (in the story, not in the roster). But yes, it seems to be more a matter of "age" that could justify the fact some of them disappeared completely in the list (for instance Taki, supposed to be Natsu master in SC V now). Cassandra can't age in the Astral Chaos, so this is a clear supposition that she is likely to appear in SC VI, there are still good news here. =)

Cmon, using age as an excuse in a fighting game where swords have souls and can freeze most of a tower, blow up cathedrals, have shards in half the cast to cause side effects including not aging, immortal people who can't permanently die, etc etc etc, but can't put people in because of age..... therefore I ask you, why is Edgemaster allowed in the game? He is the oldest person in there by a long shot, way older than Taki, Sophie, Mistu etc. Also, Mitsu is older than Taki, so gtfo with age excuses Namco and put the previous characters back in, you cannot use age as an excuse when you have older characters than the ones you took out for age in the same game.

Irritated rant complete.

Mitsurugi and Taki are the same age.

I have to go with this. I see this in fighting games a lot and yeah I get it, sex sells and teenage boys don't like middle aged women but still, I think it sucks to not include them. I can't give Namco too much harshness since they did keep Hilde and aged her but I wouldn't be surprised if they did something to her where she won't be able to age and like Ivy, will be stuck in her 30s. You are right, SC has so much stuff going on that seeing that they don't let their women age is BS.

Like I said in another topic, I'm sure that Setsuka, Taki, Sophitia, Cassandra, and Xianghua would look just fine older. I understand why Xianghua retired, I always wanted her to have a kid (I seriously wish they gave Leixia elegant fan weapons instead lol). And Setsuka, I understand her too but I wish they gave her a proper replacement insteado f Patroklos but this is all personal preference.

I just hope that in future fighting games, they won't shy away from older women. Look at freakin' Voldo, he's old as hell (well, he's 60 but you know what I mean).

If I ever get into the gaming industry and have the oppurtunity to make my own fighting game, I'm going to throw in all walks of life characters. ^^

Daishi may have actually just been just pushing characters off to the side so that they would have less to worry about, considering the ludicrous time crunch that was thrown on them near the end of the game's development.

I'm against time skips in general. I mean, why can't they keep all the old styles while adding 2 more every game?

SC5 'new' styles: (I'm excluding the pyhrahs because they are both too similar to sophitia to really be a 'new' style)

Pat, Viola, Zwei, Xiba, Dampierre, Devil Jin, ezio. That's 8 new styles!

(I included Xiba because I think he only has 1-2 moves from kilik, the rest are his alone, and plus they play nothing alike.)

How many were axed?:

Amy, Cassandra, Kilik (a mimic doesn't count), Rock, Seong-mina, Talim, Yun Seong, Zasalamel, Darth Vadar, Yoda, the Apprentice

(I know some of these are guest characters but they still count as a move style). That's 11 styles!

So that's it. We lost 11 styles, but gained 8 new ones. Sophitia is now split into 2 characters, and we have 3 god damned mimics. Not a fair trade off IMO.

Instead of replacing old characters, wouldn't it be easier and ultimately better to just re-balance already existing ones, while adding one guest and one 'new' style each game?

I think it was retarded that Damperier or whatever his name is is DLC haha, like he was playable in the PSP game, but they have to milk more money out of people and force them to pay for him. Seriously, anything that was in the previous games, handheld or not, you shouldn't have to pay for if they are in any sequels.
