Left 4 Dead

Hunter Strats
-crank up your controller sensitivity to at least 75/75 or Higher on 360 so you have more control over your hunter while in midair(PC player get a huge + here, as the mouse allows them to semi-glide in the air and land on survivors)
- Be sure to pounce from high places whenever possible as the higher you are when you land on them, the more damage you get from the pounce, max is 25dmg.
- If your hunter catches fire, pounce on someone ASAP. The fire adds additional damage.
-If you are up against a group that has people in the red, and they still have their teammates alive. Try to run up behind them during a distraction and melee them and run away. The hunter has best melee(well, outside the tank)

Smoker Strats
-Learn where you can get death pulls. A death pull is when you drag them off cliffs or off/ out of bulding about the same height with a large gap between you and the victim.
-Annoy them from a safe spot. Constantly grab them and force somebody to go back for them. Do this when waiting for your teammates to respawn.
-Team up with other infected. Smoker + Boomer is a very deadly pair as can be a Smoker + Hunter.
-Stand in front/ on top of cars with alarms or behind a witch. Using your tongue you forcefully drag someone to their demise but if the others shoot you/at you then they are bound to cause all hell to break lose.

Tank Tips
-When the message for a Tank spawn pops up look around for it. Cause the tank will already be on the map before your/one of your teammates are given control.
-If you are in ghost mode(choosing where to spawn) and it says you'll be the tank...SPAWN ANYWHERE QUICK! This spawn will become AI controlled, the point is its another something the survivors have to deal with.
-Just cause your the tank, doesn't mean you are an insta win(in most cases). You still need teammates to be successful, however your presence does cause alot of constant watch and panic.
-The Tanks rock throw is glitchy, use it to your advantage. (Example, if you put a tank as close as possible into a wall where survivors are on the other side, on some walls you can somewhat safely throw rocks at them THROUGH the wall)
-Punchable objects = instant incaps(you can wipe an entire team out this way)
-When the tank FIRST comes into the field he is AI controlled, during that time if he spawns in front of survivors. There is a high chance he may be lit on fire, during this time you basically have less than 30 seconds to do something. Be smart about it.
- NEVER...NEVER! RUSH HEAD ON TO 3-4 HEALTHY SURVIVORS! Unless you have something to punch at them. Alternatively, snipe with rocks from a roof as long as you hit them with the rock the frustration meter resets. Remember gravity applies.

omg, this is bitchin. thank you so much!! did you write this or did you find it somewhere?

i just added a few of you on here. ahrezmendi, i'd love to take some of your advice in game (typically advice i get out of games doesn't stick with me). unfortunately blockbuster fails and 5/5 stores i went to didn't have it, so no left4dead for me right now. i doubt ill be on tonight for it because i believe the boyfriend is busy, but theres a good chance i'll be on tomorrow night or sunday night if anyone wants to team up :)

I got your invite. My current rented copy is from GameFly, you might try them.

Adding to what Rekano said -

Boomer:
- You are the catalyst for survivor doom. Even if you can only vomit on 1 of them, it still creates chaos, which allows your team-mates the chance to incap the other 3.
- Corners are your best friend. You only have 50 health, which means that 2 bullets will pop you in most cases. Wait around corners that you know the survivors have to go past, then get as many as you can.
- Melee attacks (from the survivors) do damage, and it only takes about 4 to pop you. If you can, set yourself up so that the survivors have little to no choice but to pop you where it will splash some of them.
- Your vomit has fairly long range, even though it doesn't look like it. It will also continue to cover survivors as long as the stream is going (approximately 3 seconds). Learn the range, and practice covering multiple survivors.

Hunter:
- Don't go out alone. This should be obvious, but I see tons of people do it, so I'm bringing it up. You're just asking to be hit by melee and then shot (or just shot outright). Wait until a chaotic situation, then try to grab a straggler.

Smoker:
- If the level permits it, try to grab a survivor from a higher level. This makes you a harder target, starts racking the damage up sooner, and when their friends break your tongue, gives you an easy retreat path.

Tank:
- Try to knock your victims into pits, off buildings, etc. Instant kills, and there are generally spots where this can be done on at least one level of each campaign.
- The Tank does not corner well. Be aware of survivors who try to lead you in circles around something.

Where'd you get that info? All the modes in L4D use the exact same maps.
From my eyes looking at the map directory on my computer. But also they've said so themselves which is why the others aren't available at launch, even though you can half ass the others on the normal maps. But mainly my eyes. Looking at files. All 30 of them. With 10 that have "vs" in the name. Want me to keep going on because I can explain this more all night.

Also it's important for people to know that for that 30 seconds of life that you have left when on fire you're invincible so don't shy away or try to be sneaky, just go at them. Hopefully your opponent doesn't know this and is still trying to shoot at you.

speaking of tank. would someone like to explain THIS!?
Using Melee to deflect his rock throw.

LOL. they warbled that shit.

thanks for all the tips everyone. i'm still a little shaky at some parts (i fail horribly as a tank, i still can't get that hunter pounce perfectly, and i have a tendency to rush in without anyone else) but i do feel like i'm getting a stitch better. thanks for putting up with the newbieness sigel and brad. hope to play with some more of you soon :)

A simple "I looked at my map files" would have sufficed.

For Tank, I'll also add that hitting things that are movable by the Tank/Special Infected (cars/forklift/trash dumpsters/that goddamn yellow thing everyone uses to block shit) will reset your Tank control timer. It's extremely good for going up against survivors that would rather wait for you to rush them like a moron.

Ex. The car at the bottom of the stairs near the safe room on No Mercy 1. If you get the safe room spawn, and the survivors are scared to come down, hitting the car resets the control timer (and will probably net you an incap if you're on the stairs).

Also, the super secret Sigel tank strat: Hit & run. The problem I see with many Tank users is impatience, and thinking that the 'roids make them invincible, which they don't. Set yourself up with some cover (open space = dead tank), and come out fast to whack a survivor, then run back to your spot (or, in the case of No Mercy 5, run in from one side of the radio room, hit someone, and run out. Make them think about what side you'll come in from next), rinse and repeat. This may seem like elementary shit, but you'd be surprised at how well it works, and how few people do it. Get tank, get yourself behind a corner, or a car, or a tree (I'm not even fucking kidding, Blood Harvest 3, ask about me), and start screwing with their heads. Many people here can attest to my full team incaps just using this simple strategy.

Tank = Mid Tier. Hiding Tank = High Tier. Tank with Mindgames = Asura Tier.

One more small tip: The tank can't run faster than/catch up to survivors until they are in the yellow or lower, so don't waste time and life trying to chase someone who's in the green, while they just backpedal and shoot you.

General:

Anti-Tank: Auto Shotgun. Holy shit, does the auto shotgun shit all up in his Cheerios. I especially rec. this for the tank spawns on No Mercy 5; A full team of Survivors with auto-shotties will kill a tank from full HP before he can even hit anyone.

Boomer: Think about where you set up. If you vomit/explode on them in a spot with an easy choke point nearby (e.g No Mercy 2 train cars), you'll do little to no damage. Make sure you get them in a spot with lots of zombies nearby, that will let the Horde do what they do best: surround someone, and hit them from all sides. Also, the boomer is great for just the general disturbing of shit. Everyone's first reaction to getting vomited on is to wildly mash melee, so work with your teammates to drag/pounce the survivors that aren't vomited on, while the ones that did get hit can't move due to the Horde.

Interesting fact I learned today. If you light a tank on fire, he dies in about 40 seconds. No matter what. It might change because of difficulty, I haven't tried it myself yet, but he takes no damage after being set on fire. So run...a lot. Or just don't set him on fire if you want to shoot him dead.

This isn't true in versus I was the tank and was on fire and wasnt taking any damage from the fire. I'm not sure in single player but im pretty sure it will still take damage if you shoot it because we killed a tank in about 15 seconds we lit it on fire and unloaded with auto shottys

You seemed so sure otherwise that I needed to cover all my bases :)

I realize text is not a good medium for communication, but I assure you I was just wondering how you had found out.

Re: Tank hitting cars - I did not know that reset the rage meter, I'll have to remember that next time.

Re: Vomit in open areas - Too true. I've been caught a number of times in an open area, and there's just no escaping the horde. But if I'm anywhere near a corner, and I get vomited on, I'm all but guaranteed to escape unscathed (or with only minor bruises).

I've been playing this game with you for a couple of weeks Sigel and i'm just now starting to wise up a little bit. Last night, i finally tried some of that Tank hit and run shit and i find that you tend to survive a little longer that way. Granted i dont have it down to a science yet. Mostly because old habits die hard i guess but, i think i'll get it down soon enough.

I'm not really getting anywhere with the hunter though. I either get shoved out of my pounce, or just barely miss and land right in front of them, looking like a complete jackass. I think from now on, i want to rely more heavily on regular mellee attacks and only use pounce to move around or attack a lone survivor in a room or something.

Getting Boomer bile on someone out in the open is a fucking hard task indeed. I feel that i pretty much have to use rooftops, walls and corners. Otherwise, there just isn't enough cover to stop from getting shot. Maybe you can offer a more detailed explanation or example but as it stands, these areas that dont permit zombie attacks from all sides are also the only areas that can guarantee a bile attack.

I had this idea last night and thought maybe we could do some kind of trial/training VS. with party chat instead of regular team chat. Personally, i would like to find out what and where most of these Tank, moveable objects are, and work out some good hunter/smoker tactics. Maybe we could get becky in on this idea too since, i'm assuming she wants all the help she can get.

Hunter is harder (imho) on 360, but also (again imho) happens to be the hardest infected to do well as in general. Some things I keep in mind to help me survive/do well as Hunter are:
1 - Remember that they make noise when crouched. Don't crouch until you're about to leap (it only takes a few seconds to charge), so as to not give away your position.
2 - Spawn behind the survivors, and leap during a chaotic situation. This not only masks your growl, but many survivors don't look behind them, so you can get in closer without being noticed.
3 - Don't leap at a survivor head on. If they are facing you, you are guaranteed to get a rifle butt in the nose. If you know they've seen you, retreat and wait for a better opportunity.
4 - Keep leaping. If you miss your first leap, your meter remains charged, so you can leap again. Only if you get hit does your meter have to recharge, so keep moving.

Again, these are just what I try to keep in mind, but Hunter is hard to play.

That pretty much sums it up. Keep in mind that areas with multiple entrances are also good. For example, the open alleys right outside the starting safe house on No Mercy 3. They're not as open as the main courtyard, but there are far too many entrances for the survivors to easily cover them all. You also have the advantage of knowing the way they are going to go (since there is only 1 route), and you can hit them from a rooftop.

Boomer is all about planning, because generally speaking you don't get more than one shot. Learn the maps, figure out the good spots for ambushes, and just create chaos.

I'd be down for this too. I have becky on friends, so I'll try to join if I can. Feel free to add me to friends and send me an invite too, I'll try to get on around 7 or 8.

L4D today Dead air on Xpert whos in?

I ended up beating Dead Air on Expert primarily by myself. I called in my friend to take the smoker tongues while on top of the plane on the finale. as we melee'd each other until the plane was fueled.

How I made it past Dead Air 3(skipping the horde event and running past Witch, Boomer, Hunter, Tank, and cappin a smoker near the end trying to be slick) and 4 (On my last incap, a tank hot on my heels, I make it into the safe room) BY MYSELF. Is still beyond me.

But damn guys, getting "What Are You Trying To Prove?" felt so damn rewarding once I did it.

i definitely want in on any training. right now i don't think i'll be able to play l4d for at least the next two days, though. :(
