one of the top 5 dumbest weapons in the entire series
Umbrella > generic sword. I like umbrellas.
WHAT?!?!?! You are talking about one of the most iconic mainstays of the franchise both gameplay and storywise up against a character that the only people who want her around are those who were attracted to her over sized breasts
Xianghua is just generic character and i am not interested in her story.

so quick question, how far into development is SCVI
From a mix of what I've heard and pieced together....
While I don't know when exactly it started, I know that they started pre-planning and planning after they shut Lost Swords down. That shut down on November 30 of 2015. They had announced it was shutting down September 1 of the same year.
Meaning full blown development of SCVI started sometime around early to mid 2016 for sure.
Everything was going well, with them building up and teasing the reveal of SCVI all the way up to the fall of 2016, then the problem(s) arose around November (which were mainly things concerning the style switching/multiple moveset mechanic aspect) which couldn't be resolved by December 2016 by its 20th anniversary, hence the trailer they threw out there with the teasing quote at the end to try and give the fans a wink and nudge to hold them over.
That delay lasted from November to February it seems when I put everything together that I've heard and analyzed as well.
As development did pick back up sometime in or around February no matter what, and they were doing motion capturing from then up until May to play catch up.
Regarding the game itself, it was only planned for PS4 and PC originally from what I heard, but Switch was something they fast tracked development on at some point this year after they saw the Switch's success and they wanted a part of that. Being close with Nintendo probably played a factor in helping make it happen as well.
To get to the point and answer your question, it looks like 2 years so far now, but with a 3-ish (maybe closer to 4) month delay in there at a point.

Do you know what any of the characters look like?
Not yet.

It seemed odd to me until I saw the news of MHA releasing for PS4 and Switch, along with Japanese developers rushing to develop for the Switch after not giving a shit about it when it launched until they saw Nintendo raking in the cash. Then you have people saying how poorly the Xbox version of Tekken 7 sold compared to the PS4 version, so they may have decided to shift their resources over to the Switch since there's 0 market in Japan for the Xbox.

Guess we'll find out soon. I'd be shocked if Xbox got left behind.
I essentially answered your question above that agrees with it.

The real question is - how long from announcement till release at this point? And how big a team have they been working with?

Though I really dislike Xianghua and her fighting style, I'm glad she's back. She is indeed iconic in the series, and her daughter was even more annoying to me than X's was/is.

Hopefully, this means justice for the veterans and PS will find a solution to bring back our beloved characters (having aged or not) while continuing the timeline (though this wasn't that much required xD).

Now I really can't wait for the confirmation on the 7th (and, of course, Raphaël's presence... huh @Vergeben? ^^). People will go berserk here xD

You could arguably say the same for her sure. But only about the breasts part. Earlier in the series she played an important part story wise and she definitely has the legacy factor considering she was an original character all the way back in Soul Blade. Sets has none of that going for her. In fact if Mitsu wasn't in the game there would be absolutely no reason she would even be in it.

And I sir, in my own blessed opinion think you have bad taste. And whether or not you're interested in HER story doesn't mean she hasn't played an integral part in THE story. As I said above Sets has nothing going for her and really no reason to be in the game besides fan service.

I was told it would "probably be out around late 2018/early 2019."
If that is when they do and can restrain themselves from rushing it, then I'm plenty fine with that. I personally hope they just dedicate as much time as they need for it.
SCV was a "teaching moment" to them, that I know. So, them not rushing VI and aiming to make what is hopefully the best game in the series should be their goal.

Yeah, just saying it would've been sooner if development started earlier. Still, would you say they started development around the time the poll was made? In tandem with the recent news, it would be good confirmation that Project Soul was in fact using it as a source despite what some people were saying.

thanks for the additional info. that's very interesting.

but if it was originally intended as a PS4/PC only deal, then I'm afraid that doesn't bode well for Xbox. :(

another poster also mentioned that Tekken 7 had low sales on the Xbox - I didn't know that.

if all that is true, coupled with what you just added, then I guess I wouldn't be as surprised if it did skip Xbox.

still holding out hope. but man, that would be yet another strike against Xbox in terms of fighting games - for me at least.

First was SF V. Then Blazblue Cross Tag. And now Soul Calibur VI?

Since I can come out and say it.

She's back.

Cool thanks!

But what changed for you to be able to say she is in the game?

Just something I've been wondering, though it's pretty minor. How many voice actors will reprise their roles in SCVI? I can understand there being new ones seeing as how it's been a long ass time since the last SC, which is especially true for characters that were cut in SCV and returning here. Just something I'm curious about.

The character poll was held in 2015 with them telling fans they'd be determining the future of the series, with the results announced in June of 2015.
You can make your own conclusions, but for people to think it isn't factoring in at all is funny to me.

Sony said they wanted PS4 to be the console for fighting games a few years ago and it is.
You left out the GGXrd games, KOF XIV, other re-releases like The Last Blade 2 and Garou (the latter being on Switch as well), plus the upcoming Fighting EX Layer.
If you love fighting games, you pretty much need a PS4. Otherwise a PC. But the online communities are typically far more alive and active on PS4 by comparison.

Cool thanks!

My primary source for SCVI info that's most knowledgeable of things concerning roster, specifics about characters and such told me today and that it was fine to leak that she is, so I did.

Everyone has different tastes, someone like something but you don't like it, it does not mean it is bad taste.
And whether or not you're interested in HER story doesn't mean she hasn't played an integral part in THE story. As I said above Sets has nothing going for her and really no reason to be in the game besides fan service.
I against focusing story on just one character because not everyone like this character (SCV example). So to satisfy everyone story should cover every character in game.

It's funny to me too. People were saying "They used it for trading cards", "They weren't using it because only 1% of the community voted", "The poll was just a marketing ploy that meant nothing". Funny how some people refuse to believe what's in front of them.
