They're definitely going the flashy route here. Again, not super happy to see the meter back, but I did notice that guard impacts were performed free of any meter cost, so that's something. Gameplay itself looks pretty fast and fun.

Well, saw it. 15 mins of a recorded interview (the interviewer seemed versed in Soul Calibur, so at least hey!). Things I noticed:
-New UI!
-There's a meter system again, like in SC5, works the same (you can fill it twice).
-There's three dots under the health bar that seem connected to armor pieces being broken (like Soul Calibur IV)
-Music playing was a remake of Sophitia's SC1 theme (is the Eminence Orchestra back?)
-The stage from the trailer seems to have a couple of day times (so one day, one afternoon). Not sure if it's chosen or random.

EDIT:

Well then! I'm so happy about that! It was one of my biggest concerns, but seeing it free of meter means we shouldn't see a game that strays too far away from what we've played for a long time :D

What do you guys think of the new HUD?

I wonder if it's temporary. The health bar has multiple nicks that lend credence to some kind of comeback system, and there seems to be a 4 sectioned meter in the center that dropped only when I saw a cinematic move land. Mistu was spamming the Reversal Edge for a while, so I hope that gets addressed.

Hmmm... I just noticed that armor breaks depending on where you hit. For example if you attack low sophitias boots will break and if you attack high the top will tear

Pederasty is not a Greek word, but it is a word that describes the core of what gay relationships were in Ancient Greece. It is the most socially significant form of same-sex relations at that time. And no, gay men are not limited to being passive, and that is not at all what I said or even alluded to. I said submissive men, ie the men who when engaging in sex acts are the penetrated party, were looked down on and chastised by society. I don't know if you know how gay sex works, but one member of the act kind of needs to be the submissive one or else it doesn't work. In relation to some armies recruiting gay lovers in their ranks, yes that happened. Ultimately, though, it's irrelevant, because due to how prevalent pederasty was in Greek culture at the time, their relationship would either be oppressed due to their conformation to society, or one of them would be shunned for being the passive partner in the sex act.

When I said 'we', I was referring to the group of gay video game players that I mentioned when I said 'most of' because it is a group that I am part of. Note, 'most', because I definitely did not say 'all', sorry that you feel left out but that just means I simply wasn't talking about you. The definition of 'icon' however, is
'a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration' so no, just because a niche community of nsfw artists draws a specific character doesn't mean they are an icon. There are barely any gay icons in video games because there are barely any characters that are either openly gay and have a fleshed out character background, or are openly supportive of gay people, their community, and are held to high esteem as a result. Token gays are not icons. However, like I said, being a gay icon has nothing to do with their sexuality, take Caitlyn Jenner for example, she's trans but she's not a trans icon because she's a shitty person, so including a gay man in the game doesn't automatically equal gay icon. The gays choose who they hold to high esteem, and at the moment, the consensus that I've seen is that the women of Soul Calibur, specifically Ivy, Sophitia, Tira, Talim, and Taki are gay favourites. I never said ALL GAYS. So don't twist my words please.

I denied Voldo as a gay icon, cut and dry, and said why. You're the one who said he was the closest to an LGBT+ icon that Soulcalibur has, which I only criticized because your support of that claim is based on sex, which is what you said you didn't want a woman to be an icon for. I was only pointing out the hypocrisy in what you said. It is insulting to say that the closest thing to a gay icon in Soulcalibur is someone who is both faceless and voiceless. End of. Regarding your 'there could be four other gay icons' - no they couldn't. Speculating sexuality doesn't mean they are of that sexuality, and it definitely means they aren't gay icons if their sexuality is being oppressed by game developers. Please don't reduce yourself to patronizing me by claiming you feel sorry for me, because I am highly educated on most things LGBT+. I will not be satisfied by rumours of someone's sexuality. To be a gay icon you need to be an out and proud supporter of all things LGBT+, not hiding in the shadows, faceless, voiceless.

Now that I think about it. Since gay people and straight people are the same in every way, except for who they choose to bang. There's no personality requirement for a gay character. For all we know half the cast is gay, since we don't see them actively pursuing other people romantically, there's no way to know. There are exceptions tho like Sophie since she has a husband and kid.

Tira and Pyrrah had some implied kinky shit going on Kappa

Huh, I thought everyone was going to miss it the first time since it was the last post on the last page and I thought there would be a flood of new posts to drown it out. Anyways, thanks.

HUD is probably beta. SCV's HUD used to look very different before release too. If they were to keep this one though I wouldn't mind, I think it looks good

Also, I love Sophie's new voice, she sounds a lot less anguished than SC4. Is 'just desserts' a catchphrase she had before? It's iconic in that trailer and is SO clever. It sounds like 'justice hurts' which is the point of the saying in the first place obviously, but it's so clever because it contrasts directly with Patroklos and his 'I am justice' thing. .
Does Sophitia still have the intro where she taps her sandals in preparation for the fights? I don't remember her doing that since SCII as most of her intros I recall now are just the zoom in to her face raising herself. I do particularly want that unique sandal-tap intro back.

And by the way, Aeon has always been the most sexualized character. Dude never even wears pants.
If they are redoing the character designs to fit with SCI I actually hope he doesn't revert to his design of just being a regular lizard. He was the only character that actually got more vivid in his character designs as the series progressed.

It's probably a sign of what's to come. I doubt they'd redesign the HUD just to go back to a plain looking one.

The meter was rarely used which is great!

Edit: Having rewatched it it seems the meter was only used for the Critical Edge and Soul Charge which is great news for me.

If Cassandra and Sophitia were not already related, Casssandra does give off that vibe though considering most people 'are definitely not her type'. It also wouldn't be too out there if Pyrrha had feelings of attachment for Tira in that stockholm environment with Tira on the other end just toying with that.

It's completely true that there are no requirements for a character to be gay. But to be a gay icon, the character needs to be out and proud, and make it more of who they are than just a token 'I'm gay' in a hidden bio entry or Wikipedia post. It's true, that a lot of the cast could be gay, but that doesn't mean they are, and it means they can't be representative of gay people.

If it were revealed Tira and Pyrrha had sexual relations I would be devastated and Tira, for me, would be cancelled as a gay icon.

As long as he has those sparkling, subtly defined abs, I'm set

I'm sorry to break into the excitement of the PSX panel or whatever but I've read through a decent amount of conflicts and ignorance regarding other subjects but the ONE thing I'm going to HIGHLY request is that we not have a social conflict regarding the gay community in this thread. Sure, we joke about characters and to eachother, etc., but more than the other stuff THIS is the most awkward interaction I've seen.

@Ave certainly speaks truth regarding the addressing of a female game character as an icon. Even with the references, I also don't give two shits about any of them anymore, BUT one cannot deny that those and other similar references apply to the view of a very noticeable amount of gays. Many gays are also heavily aware of the sexuality that those such as Madonna have fearlessly shown, and encourage and imitate it.

@Macaulyn, however, was especially correct in checking the use of pronouns that was included in Ave's response -- it certainly doesn't apply to everyone. For example, I actually have only played female characters in fighting games because I find the movement associated with them to be more graceful and I have been an indescribably enormous fan of dancing (primarily ballet) and gymnastics from the age of 3 to now at 21, hence why I started at SCII and was a huge fan of Xianghua, although when Tira was released in III and Amy was fleshed out in IV, immediate equally favorite characters. Although the remark about personality also holds some truth and would apply to why I am a casual fan of Ivy, though such would never be my personality in life, as I just act like a normal person (unless you know me).

However, Macaulyn, your little "gay porn" remark might have been the logic but was CLEARLY not the intention. I mean, come on.

At least we know the common thought process leads to the fact that a clear gay rep in SC would be interesting.

ANYWAY, I'm seeing that non-meter GIs are allegedly back, PRAISE GOD. That was such a repulsive idea in V.

A clear gay rep is all I am asking for. Also I hope I cleared up that by 'we' I didn't mean every gay, just the group of gays I was relating to.

As for that, I'm a little afraid, that people gonna to overuse the Reversal Edge, and the 3/4 of the round will be rock, paper, scissors guessing.

That armour break when Sophitia's hair came out of the braid was amazing!
Also, apparently, some of the length was cut off during armor beak, as initially her braid is butt-length, but when her hair is down they are just mid-back length.
In general it's cool that armor-break not doesn't make all of the character's wardobe to explode and destroys only parts that were attacked.
As for gameplay:
Meter is back - hooray!
Classic GI is back too - hooray!
Raversal Edge is basically a Focus Attack from SFIV - dunno about that, but it's much better that JG, so hooray!
I rate it where_should_I_throw_money_to_get_this/10.
