I though Xiba was kind of cool, just not explored enough.

The idea had potential, naturally, what with his connections to being Kilik's bastard son and all that the story never got into.I though Xiba was kind of cool, just not explored enough.
Being serious is having a personality, Amy exemplifies this perfectly, she is serious, calm and composed. Taki and Siegfried do nothing but show a hardened face and say heroic lines, Sophitia barely got away from the personalityless characters, because her voice actress already sounded somewhat like she is about to cry, but with her actually having lines about it in SC4 helped a lot, she sounded conflicted.I don't get it. Being serious is a personality. If you don't like that, then that's fine. But calling characters like Taki, Siegfried, Sophitia, etc... as "not having any personality" is stupid and wrong.
Pretty much the situation with all SC5 newcomers.I though Xiba was kind of cool, just not explored enough.
Octo-Voldo, colorfull Yoshi and Mitsurugi (but probably he wont get that beard; but the rest of his outfit is cool).I'd like to see some of the unused SCV costumes concept arts:
Especially belly dancer Viola & Octo-Voldo.

But he instead came off as a Flanderized, one-dimensional character.
Like Ryuzha said though, the new kid trio on V were 2/3 being the simply lazy-but-brilliant martial artists thing with a Goku expy and Naruto expy featuring "I can't believe it's not Xianghua."

I'll be the first to say that Siegfried is the single most developed character in the entire series, so anyone who tries to act like Siegfried isn't a great or well written character is beyond me. They never even managed to get to a point of ruining him or stalling his development either. Even his short appearance in SCV's story showed him shift to a mentor role in the years between while keeping his resolve to him in assisting in the fight against Soul Edge without hogging the spotlight (though he probably just should have lol)Being serious is having a personality, Amy exemplifies this perfectly, she is serious, calm and composed. When I said "lazy", I meant as a personality and not his creation. For the record, I'm not really a fan of lazy-but-brilliant characters when it comes to martial artists. That's probably a big part of why I didn't like any of the east Asia kiddies in SCV.
I never said they weren't one dimentional, its what happens when you don't have a story. But it doesn't mean they don't have a personality. Also, how exactly does Xiba's personality even comes close to Goku's? Every DBZ fanboy seem to think that a Sun Wukong inspired character is related to Goku, as if someone like Goku is worth making a character from. How exactly does a character that came from a forbidden love and is laid back compares to Goku, whose parents were married, killed by an evil alien and he sacrifices literally anything for a fight? The idea had potential, naturally, what with his connections to being Kilik's bastard son and all that the story never got into.

Every type of personality has been used somewhere else, that is not an excuse.A lazy-but-talented-food-obsessed fighter isn't really a personality because that kind of character is present in... every manga ever? Even bloody Sailor Moon is that stereotype.
To go back to CaS: it would be awesome if SCV newcomers' outfit were CaS pieces.
His story is well written, he doesn't show a good personality regardless.I'll be the first to say that Siegfried is the single most developed character in the entire series, so anyone who tries to act like Siegfried isn't a great or well written character is beyond me.
I don't think when anyone compares xiba to Goku they are talking about thier backstories, it's mainly about their personalities and looks that are similar. Goku had a staff and loves food just like xiba. they both were inspired by journey to the west and have a laid back personality. When I said "lazy", I meant as a personality and not his creation.

In the Soul series, he was the most cliché character. The rest had personalities similar to other characters from different stories but with a more personal twist. Xiba had nothing unique.Every type of personality has been used somewhere else, that is not an excuse.

To be honest, I don't really like that much "fantasy" characters like ZWEI (wolf thing), Viola (floating ball thing), Xiba (young Kilik with tail, that looks like manga character) in Soul Calibur. I prefer "normal", mature characters just with "normal" weapons - swords, rods, axes etc., that are facing each other to get THAT special and otherworldly thing - Soul Edge.A lazy-but-talented-food-obsessed fighter isn't really a personality because that kind of character is present in... every manga ever? Even bloody Sailor Moon is that stereotype.
Since we're just talking about personalities and people mentioned Sophitia's, I feel like she's one of the characters who has a pretty realistic one. She's a tragic heroine who's been forced to protect an evil sword and kill innocent people. She literally is now doing the opposite of what her goal was for the past 4 games, and has had to turn her back on the gods she loved so much for her daughter. In SC4 her VA does a great job at portraying how pained she is for having to fight and hurt those who she knows are just.
Also, I looked up what Sophitia's voice actress sounds like normally and lmao it's so different. I take back what I said about a new voice actress, this woman's got a lot of range.
