Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

I do like the fact that they keep mentioning that they're looking back to previous SC games and seeing the fans' opinions of them, as well as their best and worst parts. Okubo really seems to respect the franchise and he realizes that he's jumping into development for a game that has an established fanbase that's very passionate.

Love or hate T7, I found gameplay and character balance to be phenomenal.

So, about Setsuka... I was thinking about the mention of Shugen (Setsuka's master) in Mitsurugi's timeline from NLoPS, so I went to look at it really quick, and it turns out that Mitsu killed Shugen two years prior to the events of SC1.

Looks like there's still a possibility for Setsuka to return...

Equal opportunity fanservice is a good way to prevent people from creating a moral outrage against SCVI's sexiness with certain female characters because if everyone's sexy, no one can complain. :D
This isn't just a decision for equality, dude. You know, it always felt completely stupid that they never gave too much attention to male fanservice, because straight female and gay male gamers exist, so there was always an audience they could cater to with that. Sure, it works for no more sexualization complaints, because if everyone is sexualized, its equality, but its not like they were losing anything for doing that, they are actually winning.

Watch this game be like
"SC1 and new characters and 1 guest are the base roster while everyone introduced in SCII and beyond along with more guest characters are DLC, also Nightmare is a pre-order bonus."
Okay IM sure that's not gonna happen but it would be funny to imagine the immense backlash that Bamco would get.

Except when it's males being sexy it's a "power fantasy" rather than "objectification" so there will still be a ton of complaints about sexy girls anyway.
I wish your statement was true, but sexy guys will not even remotely stop any complaints.

...As my avatar might suggest, it's most certainly still just as much objectification.
Honey, you do not know what you are talking about... seriously, you have no fucking idea. "Power fantasy"? Why? How is Mitsurugi more of a "power fantasy" than Ivy, you know, the dominatrix? Power and objetification are only in the eyes of those who look at the sexiness, how would you imagine yourself... engaging in... combat... with that hot guy/girl.

Same here. Hopefully they'll find a way to fudge the story enough to include some of the fan-favorites like Talim and Tira. I know a lot of people like those two, so PS would probably be hurting a lot of their fanbase if they're not included.

I really want to see Cassandra and Setsuka return, so hopefully PS will figure something out.

Yeah they would have to do some retconning.

Talim - Would be the hardest because of her age, but Amy opens up that door for her
Tira - She'd be very young too, but she could have ties to the new assassin character which could be her reason being in the game
Setsuka - Would need a change in motivation so it would be difficult too (her master might be in the game instead of her) EDIT: It seems that she could be included based on what Autumn says.
Cassandra - Decided that Sophitia won't go alone this time, so goes with her or chases after her

Everyone else should be relatively easy to include earlier.

I can't wait to be on the 15th!

Talim would be 10, Tira 12... Yeah they're too young xD

Wow... she took a while to take action, right?

There is plenty of place for everything: SCI was set in 1587, this one is in 1586. It's just a difference of one year, but that opens up a lot of possibilities.
Also, as far as I know, there isn't much difference between the times in SC1, SC2 and SC3, right? If that is the case, maybe there will be events of all games regardless.

I don't see why she wouldn't. She's age-appropriate for the timeline (just because she debuted in SC3, doesn't mean she didn't exist prior to that), her fighting style is incredibly unique & way more popular than the awful Alpha Patroklos rendition.

  • We want players to know the world of the original Soulcalibur by solidly depicting its story once again. Part of that is the hope that not only current players, but also those who played in the past will return.
Okay, can we talk about this one for a minute. What if there is a translation error here, a very small one. Think about it like this: "We want players to know the world of the original Soulcalibur by solid depicting their story mode once again." Sure, they did mention that it starts in the year of SC1, but, of course it does, SC1 is the first because its 1. They also said that they "reviewed previous entries" which can easily mean SC1-3 or even 1-4. Maybe they are talking about the original games of SC, not just one game.

I'm surprised it's 70% done already. I was expecting this to come out late next year but it looks like it might be earlier.

Maybe SCVI development started at the end of 2015 after the Facebook poll & the shutdown of Lost Swords. So the Passion Republic concept was real and part of the multi moveset idea didn't work so they continued to work on SCVI and revealed it after Tekken 7 announced Noctis as the final guest character. 70% complete might be a July 2018 release.

Or maybe talking about the original story of the Soulcalibur universe, so not only the first game but the full lore.

Though a part of me wants the game asap, I really think that the later, the better. We've waited for 6 years, why not wait another year to have the best Soul game ever?

The most significant evolution is the introduction of the “Reveresal Edge” system, which is an attack that integrates offense and defense to defend against almost all techniques with a single button, regardless of whether they are high, middle, or low. By mastering this, even beginners can can read the moves of advanced players."
This entire point is just my main worry with this game. That it'll cater too much to casuals to the point of being absurd. Even when SoulCalibur was a pretty popular game with casuals already.
