Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

You guys never cease to puzzle me honestly. There's talk of difficult commands being made available at the press of a button and no one shows at least some concern? Meanwhile choosing to talk about CaS and guest characters? Don't you think gameplay comes first?

I'm not trying to antagonise anyone, I just wish there were more discussions, predictions and opinions on gameplay than story and CaS, even though both are almost equally important.

The most significant evolution is the introduction of the “Reveresal Edge” system, which is an attack that integrates offense and defense to defend against almost all techniques with a single button, regardless of whether they are high, middle, or low. By mastering this, even beginners can can read the moves of advanced players."
This entire point is just my main worry with this game. That it'll cater too much to casuals to the point of being absurd. Even when SoulCalibur was a pretty popular game with casuals already.

This. Easier Critical Edges if that's the case? Fine. As someone who likes the idea of and way it's been where actually learning the game pays off though, Reversal Edge is quickly becoming my biggest concern. I can understand tipping the scales in a fight between a beginner and advanced player a bit, but the wording just sounds like it's possibly going too far with it. I very much hope the game in some ways effectively advocates newcomers to also learn their characters over time and transition from beginners into being more advanced players down the road.

I do like the fact that they keep mentioning that they're looking back to previous SC games and seeing the fans' opinions of them, as well as their best and worst parts. Okubo really seems to respect the franchise and he realizes that he's jumping into development for a game that has an established fanbase that's very passionate.

Love or hate T7, I found gameplay and character balance to be phenomenal.

Agreed. T7's balance has seemed quite good from the start, and gameplay's great. One of the only current-gen fighters I can get into from time to time now.

I can't wait to be on the 15th!

Talim would be 10, Tira 12... Yeah they're too young xD

Well, retcons, time-travel, reboot... For all we know, ages could be completely irrelevant from here on, as well as where in the series they were introduced.

No one made the "you can't spell fundoshi without fun" joke yet.

I am disappoint.

On the plus side, you beat everyone else to it.

Maybe even sooner?

In any case this game is gonna be a console straight console release without an Arcade release. Just imagine if SC6 would follow the same scenario as Tekken 7 we won't get this game on consoles until 2021 at earliest. Just thinking about it... AHHHH... ARGHFDGJKFGBJsbgSFGfgSGSF.... No comment.

So in the end that's all good. If the game is at 70% development, i can see it release before August (Which is also the month of Evo 2018)

I don't want to think about it either ! To be honest, I'm happy to see that they made the mistake with T7 and that they are not going to do it with SC6.

Was it ever confirmed that SCV was rushed out early due to Namco not wanting it to clash with TTT2 or was it just people assuming? If that's the case then at least we won't have to worry about a similar situation this time. I also imagine that they are aware of the reaction people had to SCV's lacking content.

We only know that they were rushed and that was the reason for the seemingly incomplete/lacking story-mode and the fact that we had four mimic characters. We can only assume the clashing with Tekken was a possible reason.

SoulCalibur VI introduces the new Reversal Edge and other new features that key developers recently talked about in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

Here are highlights from the interview:

  • The “Reversal Edge” can be performed with a single button. While pressing the button it blocks all attacks from high, middle, low, and grabs.

  • When you let go of the button the character will slash and enter a scene.

  • There are some moves that you can only pull off by consuming your Soul Charge and powering up.

  • The “Lethal Hit” is an advanced system where landing certain moves in the right condition will send the opponent flying.

  • Since there wasn’t any 3D fighters on current generation consoles, the team felt that they needed to make a new SoulCalibur.

  • The setting will take us back in time, into the year 1586. The keyword here is “reboot.”

  • Please look forward to collaborations with other works!

  • The team is focusing on making enjoyable sword fights with the press of a button using Reversal Edge.

  • Some commands that were difficult to pull off up until now have also been made to activate with just one button.

  • The Guard Impact no longer consumes your meter.

  • The team is getting help from a surprising amount of outside developers.

  • Character creation is something appealing that can’t be taken away, so keep an eye out for that.

  • Development is currently 70% complete.

SoulCalibur VI releases in 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Honey, you do not know what you are talking about... seriously, you have no fucking idea. "Power fantasy"? Why? How is Mitsurugi more of a "power fantasy" than Ivy, you know, the dominatrix? Power and objetification are only in the eyes of those who look at the sexiness, how would you imagine yourself... engaging in... combat... with that hot guy/girl.
...I have no idea what I'm talking about? You didn't even read my post properly.
My point was that the people who commonly complain about females being "objectified" will claim that men being "objectified" is instead a power fantasy for men, and thus equal opportunity fanservice isn't gonna prevent backlash at all.

I actually agree with you that the women in SC are just as much a power fantasy as the guys are.

I guess my earlier post can essentially be boiled down to "people who want to whine will whine no matter what you do to appease them".
