Exactly. Nobody’s asking for the bonus characters to come back and throw a wrench in tournament play or something like that, and the styles certainly don’t need to be the same as those from SC3 (or God forbid, Devil Jin), so I fail to see a problem. I enjoy the thought of my character being deeper in creativity than just looks, without having to be mandatorily tied to a base character.

I'll take Hwang's barebones moves in a new character as a small shred of a consolation prize. Hwang technically wasn't in SC2 but Assassin is basically him and he's a blast for me to use in that game. I would use the notations but I can't remember his iconic string notations from memory. I think most people familiar with SC1/2/3 would know what I mean.

Yun....is not a Hwang clone in any sense of the word. His movelist is "inspired" by Hwang with a Hworang/youthful twist. I don't know if this changed but when I played SC2HD even when Yun had similar moves to Hwang they took a new direction/variation/animation and property.

I would say Yun actually helped flesh out Hwang's movelist for SCIII AE based on the small amount of footage available online.

But screw story....just include the characters that the fans want! Mina is an original starting character from Soul Edge. She deserves to be in at the bare minimum of all the koreans.

On another note, very excited to see what they do with Tira. I love her SC3 design and by extension her SC5 design, so I hope they go with something similar!
If anyone has a picture on hand and has tried it before, or can boot up their SCV and try an SCIII inspired color scheme on Tira's SCV outfit (P1 or P2 outfit), I'm now very curious to see that since I actually never wound up trying that and seeing how that would look.
I'd do it right now, but I gotta move some cords and stuff around. XD

>all these people begging for CaS-exclusive styles

Where's my dislike button?
I fail to see why there is a problem with people asking for more originality to the CaS system.
If they're a way to get characters' styles in that they have no intention or "canonical" reason to include like Pat and Pyrrha because of the timeline, I especially don't see the issue.
Plus bonus stuff doesn't even mean you have to use it anyway. It's just another way to help the CaS feature feel a little bit different than the choices given.

If Amy is being kept as Viola then that makes even less sense with the timeline lol as an alternative, I would also be fine with Viola returning with Amy's style

maybe in order to bring back Viola and Zwei they'll do some astral chaos shenanigans?

Why waste development resources on some bad CaS-only character no one will use? The money they spent making Devil Jin in SCV could've easily gone into making Zas or Talim. If they cut a bunch of fan favorites in SCVI while putting in a bunch of broken CaS trash I'll be mad.

Besides, I see no reason to hide a style behind CaS (where the hitboxes will inevitably be all fucked up as they have been since SC3). If you spend the effort making what is essentially another character, why not just give it its own spot in the roster?

Tekken 7 has taught me that the fans are no longer of much concern when it comes to characters. I still pray the fool Harada has not passed idiocy onto Mr. Okubo.

As you can see, many people remember the potential of CaS styles. Certainly not everything was bad. Also, to provide only the style also cuts off the extra work and cost of character design and development and would basically leave it to the player. Even when bonus characters were only made from 90% CaS parts in 3, a backstory, artwork and model had to be written/made, etc..

Edit: Well Macaulyn said what I actually wanted to.

@Vergeben Do you know if Nightmare will be merged with Siegfried in terms of gameplay? They don't become separated until SC3.
I know they're both in. But I don't know if they'll be merged or not.
But they both have their own and separate movesets/styles nowadays, so, I see little reason to not just include both when the animation resources are there to reuse. They can give Nightmare a malfested Siegfried costume you can choose like on SCII.

Then again, I can't even definitely say that Nightmare will even be Siegfried this time. So there's that to think about just in case they pull that kind of swerve on us. I don't think we wouldn't get a zweihander Nightmare, just because that's so iconic at this point.
But I don't know for sure how straight they're playing the retelling other than retelling events to some extent and form from not just SC1, but SE-SCIII.
They could be going loose with it and someone else becomes Nightmare this time around. I don't know yet.

Stopped reading this nonsense there. First off, you do NOT speak for anyone besides you, if you won't use it, it doesn't mean other people won't. And second, there are MILLIONS of players in the game that make use of CaS and exclusive movesets, so it is not a waste of resources in any way, shape or form. You have no idea what you're talking about.
CAS is banned from competative play, effectively preventing the moveset from reaching their maximum potential. That in of itself is plenty of reason to not have a moveset limited to CAS

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I don't think anyone should get too discouraged (or hyped) by Vergeben's leaks.

Previous SCVI predictions include:
  • Switch version and no Xbox One version
  • Three new characters, including a Fire Emblem character
  • Taking place after SCV
And some of this new info, about the roster from Lost Swords being in SCVI... Lost Swords only had 17 characters, three of which were children from SCV. So it should be common sense that most of the remaining 14 characters are going to be in the new SC game, since most of those characters have been in every SC game.

And we're already speculating about DLC characters? It was like six months after Tekken 7 released that they revealed the second half of their season pass. And Bamco has never added very many DLC characters. Two is the current record. Maybe wait until they actually announce DLC plans before planning out which six characters they add?

I'm going to assume a small roster no matter what because of how long the series has been gone. When a series is gone for more than 5 years the devs behind the older games most likely won't be there. Therefore it makes sense that the new blood would simplify to see what works.

I've been keeping up with Tekken 7 perfectly. Hence my asking.

I'll take a guess and assume that instead of traditional shoe-ins like Lei Wulong, Anna and Julia Chang instead the game gets two bears in two separate slots and a bowling game DLC. It's clear the tekken team is isn't making the roster from deepest fan desires.

I'm not too upset because I have Tag 2 with it's incredible roster. But it really is baffling that Lei Wulong and Julia were cut. It's like cutting Raphael and Tira from Soul Calibur VI....

What kind of things are you guys hoping for in SC6 in regards to online play? I really did enjoy playing SCV and rarely experienced lag. I played on the 360.
