SC4/SC5 graphics comparison

I took some similar-ish screenshots from SC4 and SC5 for the sake of comparison. These are all from the 360 versions of SC4 and SC5 by the way. PS3 versions might be different.

SC4 is still a great looking game, but they've made some drastic improvements with SC5, especially with lighting and shading. Another big change is that the render resolution now seems to be 1280x720 (SC4 on 360 rendered above 720p and then scaled down to 720p, which hides jaggies but also made the image far too blurry).

I haven't seen SC4 in a while but after looking at it, I must say there is a big difference here/SC5 looks clearer to me, especially in HD. SC4 seemed too have too much lighting on the models making them look like plastic on some stages (cassandra's).The lighting in Aeon's stage compared to Astaroth's SC4 stage is so much better done now and I hope they continue with this graphically. However I experienced som ingame-lag from time to time, maybe because they tried to make all the attacks super flashy.

Aesthetically, the stages are less deserted now in some cases and have motion in them, I think thats another thing they noted from MK9. They seemed to also have added more shadowing to the ground in different areas and angles. The only thing I noticed though was on cervantes's ship the characters have no reflection in the water pools but thats just a nit pick. Right now Tekken 6 is slightly ahead of them in terms of stage detail IMO, just a little like they have stages with ground snow, and water at your feet rather then in the background.

In future I want to see more, what more could they add to bring life to the atmosphere?
They could do more with motion blurr I guess or have more destructable objects. Maybe things that could make the stage transition like a huge piller falling onto the stage breaking it up causing you and opponent to fall into a hole and continue your fight.

sc5 is lightyears ahead sc4. everything about the game visually looks fantastic ... they definitely have improved in the lighting / shading department ... aeon and natsu's stages come to mind ... as well as added some water / rain effects in cervantes' stage. I've been a dedicated tekken player for more than 10 years and sc5 blows away every tekken game, including tekken tag 2 arcade.

the only downside is the occasional heavy frame drops in the game ... but I don't think it affects gameplay all that much.

The next step they should take is actual weather affecting the characters within them. Cervantes' stage has rain but does it affect the character in it? Their clothing should get dampened at least or have the rain hit the ground under you, splash as you run etc... and it may be a stretch but having the rain wetting up the screen in the victory pose would be nice. Most other games use this with blood already. Generally though, they need more weather types.

eminentrising: I notice frame drops mostly when there is a lot of clutter on the screen [no surprise]. it happens often [but not limited to] at the end of rounds with armor breaks and such. not a huge deal since I don't think it will affect gameplay much, but it was just something to notice.

badbloodline: actually yeah, cervantes' stages has rain and all the characters have a "wet" look in that stage. I think I recorded one of the movelist videos on that stage ...
... should definitely be able to notice if you change it to 1080p

try not to triple post good lord. also ok i see during armor breaks ok. i thought it was like a stage slowdown cause of poor optimization. when there are tons of particles and other things on the screen some slowdown is expected.

I have been unlocking some CAS parts that look way worse than in SCIV (most of the armor pieces) They seem like made of plastic instead of metal, just like some of the new swords. And not all the backgrounds are at the level of the previous game.

A lot of sacrifices were made in the graphic side to improve the performance.

Oh yeah... I don't want to complain but I did notice that some of Mitsu's katanas looked like plastic sporks or something... I'm sure the problem is not exclusive to him either.

speaking of sacrifice for performance i noticed that with hilde's B+G throw where she flips u, there is some motion blur, likely done to improve performance. i've been keeping my eye out ever since for little shortcuts like that ever since, so far no luck.

SCV have better graphic
SCV have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better chara design(aside Zwei 1p/Natsu)

SC4 got better stages, in SCV dat dark/night stages shit just get out of control, give me back sun/day stages
