1.03 Tier List Discussion (aka Argument)

Tier lists are so pointless...

What's the point of making only one list? Almost-inhuman potential lists are pointless because they hardly reflect reality.


1.Make a list to measure the maximum potential.
2.Make a list to measure the ease for reaching the potential.
3.Then make a list to measure ease plus maximum.

1st list is partially theoric and partially for androids.
2nd list is for those who feel insecure in a videogame.
3rd list is for competitive players.


No?
 
I'm not saying, "A human could theoretically do this, therefore it's perfectly viable." What I'm trying to say is that with enough skill and proper practice, someone could very well pull off one of Setsuka's most difficult maneuvers in a stressful situation.

If it can be done, it will be done.
 
realistically, tiers are a matter of mathematical calculations based on each characters strengths and weaknesses (i.e. frame advantage and disadvantages, power, speed, range)

However variables such as familiarity become more so a deciding factor - such as SB3's recent results. I don't think anybody was expecting Kiliks to place high and yet he's there for good reason.

This changes things in 'tier lists'..not so long ago alot of people felt that Amy was ZOMG but I don't think people feel this way now - however a recent japanese player's video could probably sway heads again.

It's a mixture of trends; popularity and tools. Not everything has been broken open and analyzed in SC4 as its still a 'new' game....I suppose there's no harm in people guessing; that way when shit gets truly discovered people can start going I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO.

Are you saying that people who play competitively never benefit from a character's easy learning curve (and easy execution), and always milk out all of their character's potential?
 
Sometimes, but not always. Just because someone mains Sophitia, doesn't mean they're trying to compensate for a lack of skill.
 
I think a lot of experienced players have picked up Sophi because they know she will always be near the top, and they know her from previous installments. Though they may have picked her up when they started for the simple reason she is easy to begin with. That being said, it still takes a good amount of work to become a respectable player, no matter who you use. I've thought about learning her since SC2 but was never attracted to her style. I think Cassy is to Sophie as Sig is to NM. They're pretty similar, but not quite as good overall... in my opinion.

Setsuka is very powerful but I do reserve the top tier for only hitbox-broken characters. So far all I know are Cassandra and Kilik and I put Sophitia very close but not top because of a lack of variety and evasion. Thus, I'd never put someone without clear methods to abuse the gameplay in the top tier so only Cassandra and Kilik made it top my top ranked characters list. If you haven't seen a sword go straight through either of those characters...you haven't played Soul Calibur 4 yet.

Honestly, you're a pompous bastard. All you did in this thread was post your tier list without really backing it up (Not really a problem), and called us scrubs. Then you called us morons for ignoring your first post. Maybe people would've listened to you if you hadn't made an ass out of yourself.
