Things are going well! I actually moved into a new college for its chemistry PhD program, so things have been rather hectic lately (and will likely continue to be so for a while).
Now that is why you are so structured (almost scientific) in your awesome reviews:)
You deserve a full design notes reply my friend
I like your latest entries in the Roman God challenge. My favorite's Ares. I'm trying to figure out why the shield and the helmet ornament or floating. All I know is that I wouldn't wanna cross a God of War with FREAKIN' TELEKINESIS! It was also kind of you to give him some modesty with that well-placed zipper sticker lol.
The whole point was to give him a godly appearance all right, so something otherworldly had to be there, and i thought of the floating plume and shield, and i am very happy with it :)
The color scheme is also here to give it a different almost black statue look, like the black and white greek fresque if you see what i mean...
The golden nipples are sun stickers to add a touch of gold on the bare chest...
the rest is color matching, including on the face where i put some make up that creates almost the same color as the helmet thus leaving the stage to the menacing red eyes (the colors are not 100% faithful in the close-up shot but you can still guess the effect)
I actually laughed aloud when I saw "Whack-a-mole time!" I'm sure that was next on Hercules' list of labors. That eye make-up adds a lot of character to him. Almost like crying manly tears of blood in mourning over his slain family.
Man you are good at guessing all my design choices and intents, almost psychic ! xD
Hercules is in rage, so i went for the feral looks with animal instinct and make him look both overmuscular and good looking.
I used the different ExEqs to create the mane / lion head and the fur on the arm is here to remind of the way i would have done if i could, meaning portray him as he usually is,with a lion head armlet on the left arm...
The top of the monster head sticker's hair was used to do the moustache as well, which you might have overlooked.
Yes, if you like puns, i'll send you the link for a slideshow that is full of it, and can only be commented in PM lol
Poseidon's beard is epic, and I like the sticker work, especially with the fish scales, but he's a bit too flamboyant for my tastes. Was there a reason for you to use as many colors as you did?
Sometimes, rich and vivid color scheme can help bring out a distinct flair on a CAS, and this one needeed this badly. I have seen too any Poseidons with a lazy DLC armor and uninspired color scheme, so my idea was to go into full sea fauna mode.
Think of a coral reef, and shells, now think of how colorful it would be...
The equipements i used serve a purpose, the armor mimics different parts of a seashell (inclding the plastron with distinctive pattern to break the monotony of the scheme and evoke blue sea, and the different effects on the skin, face and the rest of the CAS make it look like light reflecting on a coral reef, along with a few SFX added on the lower part. I will be postin vids later where you can see why it just works in-game (for my tastes of course :)
Vilarcane: I really enjoyed the design aspects on your Athena. You really nailed that war/wisdom dichotomy in her outfit by juxtaposing the flowing white robes with heavy battle armor. I created my version of Athena with a similar idea in mind.
Your version of Athena is simple but great, and authentic.
Like you, i thought there was no other choice that the flowing robe for me, and it just works like a charm in windy stages with the scarf and robes floating eeriely. I wanted the helmet to look the godly part and completely different, and made sure to recrate the oversized plume she is usually portrayed with without clipping too badly wih the helmet who also has a plume (tricky, that i promise you)
On the stone version, i had fun creating a lot of different stone effects and textures while keeping all the rest black...like on Zeus, i created alternate versions with diff styles and will post some in-game vids of the most iconic ones later.
And actually those are greek gods per se, but just change Athena to Minerva etc. and you'll have your roman gods all right.
