Aeon General Discussion / Q&A

I would have said 8B+K SW K would have been the test.
It's kind of hard to miss the big wings Aeon sprouts when he does 66B, but the 8B+K thing is like a stealth Sand Winger transition.

SW K is 100% safe on block versus some characters in open field due to pushout. Things that tend to punish it are like, supers, xiba stuff (4b?), probably eizo crossbolt, any sort of really long range things that can reach him since it's poop on block. A player /really/ in the know will have a move that beats both 66B on block and the SW K transition, effectively eliminating the step/no-step mixup.

I wonder what you would do, Crow Winters?

There are a couple moves that are fast enough to hit you out of the transition to SW K and also punish 66B. Fast verticals can usually do that, but on the flip side they usually don't do that much damage.

I meant what is your option select against 66B?

Of the characters I play, off the top of my head I know Ivy 214B and Raph CE works. For like, an aeon mirror? No clue, haven't sat down and tried it, and I'm the only Aeon in the state.

edit: KinGFupa used Maxi 6A+B to hit me out of SW K one time but it was a weird and I don't know if I recall it happening again. I'll ask him to confirm it later.

editedit: so maxi's got nuthin'. but we both remember that WS B for maxi worked pre-patch. not sure why. not worth knowing, lol

Maxi's 6A+B will hit Aeon out of SW K if you don't do it as fast as possible, from my experience. I think it will also hit him out of it, or at least trade, if you do it out of 8B+K. Not sure about 44A though.

Whore out his throws. Aeon's throws are powerful, have great grab range, and he has a command grab on top of all of that. Aeon has terrible lows so it's really important that you make people afraid of your throws so you can then mix them up with mids.

I absolutely agree with the power of Aeon's throw game. I'm not as convinced by the argument of Aeon having terrible lows, though, because I seem to get plenty of mileage out of them whomever I play.
  • 1A is slow, but can be followed up with 66B for roughly 45 damage. It's only stab punishable.
  • 11_77B is also slow, but is +4 on hit and only stab punishable. I think it even has STC frames at some point.
  • 1K is theoretically unseeable, hits grounded, and has a slight backstep that has actually worked out for me on occasion. -18 on block, but that's a given.
  • 2K is 2K, but Aeon's has great range.
  • 11_77K I won't bother to justify lol. I use it for okizeme only.
There's definitely use for his lows as well as his throws, as far as I'm concerned. I feel that both need to be exploited in order to train your opponent into ducking. When they do that, 1B* into 90 damage ftw.

Don't forget that 1B+K is a low too XD

But yeah, I was exaggerating a bit when I said Aeon's low game is terrible. It does pale in comparison to a lot of other characters', though.
