Aeon Video Thread

Here's a pretty close match I had.
I'm still having trouble with his shorter range than it should be moves, but I've learned a few more of his better ranged moves to compensate.
I think I'm doing well with Aeon.

some things:
When you block any of Yoshi's kick lows outside of, like, 2k, WS B should be your punish.
If you block any sword lows (22a, 214a), WS AB or 66K for 214A, for 22A all you can do is 2A.
Your default reaction to Yoshi copter stance should start with low block, because you can't react to the low but you can react to the slower mid. If he starts getting fancier with higher copter/cancels you can deal from there with practice.
Yet another reason not to use 4b+k~g, you lose guaranteed combo damage when you guard crush with it. You effectively nerf yourself when you use this move.
You kind of play one move at a time, and seem really uncomfortable with movement. I'd loosen up a little.

Yeah, I should probably lay off the 4B+K G when they're in the red zone.
I was just trying to get in close. If I ran he would have done that sword spin shield thing that he's so fond of.
In fact he's going for it at 1:26, but I hit him before he starts.
Well, since nothing else is going on, here's a new one.
I'm trying to use some different moves.

Just watched your first aeon vids vs. maxi. The big summary is to just play more. You've got lizzy's movements down for the most parts and your 1B BE combos are on point, but you dropped all other combos, ate a lot of slow maxi lows and seem to not know your frame data too much (BT B+K three times in a row, for example.) Your calibur is fine, your aeon just needs refining and maybe a brush up on anti-maxi stuff. Keep it up!

(drinking dosen't help judging any!)

after rewatching it myself, i can't believe i dropped that much (especially when i was playing pat wow my shit was way off). my execution is usually on point, i'm an old school 2D player and usually pride myself on execution. alcohol and bad decisions/reactions i guess

i know mashing BT B+K that much is a bad idea, but i kinda treat it like bullrush sometimes. astaroths will frequently bullrush twice even on block because of the giant TC window, and aeon's BT B+K is even safer than bullrush and also a full TC.

i need lots of matchup experience. the guys i was playing there have been playing nothing but calibur for about a decade.

In absence of any of his own aGIs, I've been doing my best to remember that regular Guard Impacts still exist.
I don't know why I go straight for the grab when he doesn't have the meter to re GI anyways.
It's hard to keep track of that stuff in a tense moment.
This is the problem about playing when you're tired; at a critical moment I input 1bA+B+K sloppily and the game gives me 1B+K instead.

Here are a few of my more recent Aeon fights. Any critique would be nice. Notice my absolute struggle 1B[BE] & 6B[BE] input.

Thanks for watching

So far I watched the first one. You seem to be uncomfortable with the character to be honest. A lot of random moves thrown out for no reason at all (66K especially). You didn't use 66A once before the last fight, which is Aeon's main move.

You were quickstepping/8wayrunning a lot of stuff, which is good. However you always punished with 22B. After you step a vertical, you need to punish with 1B$ at close range, 3B at mid range and keep 22B when those are out of reach. You need to get maximum damage out of your good reads.

It also seems you could use some MU studying. Lots (and I mean lots) of your opponent's moves were unpunished
Alpha's bA, Xiba's AAB or 3/1A+B for example. Learn what your punishing options are and apply them.

The problem is that, like I said in the first paragraph, you seemed to have no game plan at all. You know? Like you were just doing stuff. Aeon is a spacing oriented character and it is the most effective way to play him. Control your opponent's movements with 66A. Make them learn to respect that move. They have to. Aeon is a passive agressive fighter. When they start playing the "2D game", you can whiff punish them easily by backstepping/sidestepping.

TBH I just picked up Aeon maybe a month and a half ago. I have set gameplan for most my fights alot of my troubles stem from being unsure of Aeons options in certain situations, especially range. I often wiff punishment choices because of it. This collection was taken maybe 2-3 weeks ago. I find it difficult to use him as a spacing character. I think alot of the 'randomness' you are seeing comes from input errors. Alot of my play I have focused around 3B and CH 22/88 AB which I think you'll notice in the others vids. I feel my gameplan shows against better opponents.

I have been trying to work in 66A more, I used it often in the Cervantes vid and the others I believe. But have been doing decent without using it much. One thing I can say is all my play has been closed off from matchup discussions and such with all the characters I play. Most of my knowledge is strictly trial & error, & gameplay threads.

Thank you. I look forward to hearing more critique.

Just wanted to post this because of the end. Don't try to learn anything from it since I was playing like shit in this match.

I've had the same thing happen. 3B also whiffs on Voldo when you step the second hit of his 6B,BE to your left.

ZeroEffect, thanks for upload this video.
Anyway, my Aeon is not good enough and I suck on meter management for Aeon. I should use more 1Bbe as like Reptile.
Don't say that if I had a chance to beat Reptile or not. I was unable to touch his hair in this tourney. XD
