Algol General Discussion/Q&A

alright guys here are the videos i mentioned

the algol 2a problem here

the the Qflip A+BB BE glitch in mentioned where you disappear here

oh and BEHOLD THE MIGHT CHAIRGOL!

ahahahahaha.

Honestly I doubt the 2a is isolated to algol and just 2a. It's not the most uncommon thing in the world for moves to just randomly pass through people, granted it doesn't happen often but I saw it multiple times in SCIV with various different moves.

Chairgol is amazing, i'm sure you could mask a bunch of attacks with that and block the entire screen.

I'm having a tough time* against A rank opponents in quick battle w/ Algol. At this point I am not sure if it's just me or Algol. I don't have as many problems playing other characters who aren't as meter dependent for damage. The A rank AI seems to always punish everything w/ decently damaging combos and I feel, as Algol, that when I get the opportunity to land hits my combos never do that much. I nearly always punish and land the most damaging combos for the given situation on a very consistent basis but it just doesn't seem to add up. Nighmare and Cervantes come to mind when I think about being able to do good damage w/o meter.

Anyone else having a similar issue?

Also note that I have not played online yet at all. I want to finish quick battle first. My history in SC3 and SC4 was w/ Nightmare so that may also explain some of my problems w/ Algol but I am a competent FG player and feel that I have at least a pretty good grasp of Algol. oh! 1 more thing, I also understand that the computer on higher difficulties will "read" your inputs and react accordingly although I am not sure how much that has to do with this.

I'd like to hear of other players experiences offline against the computer w/ Algol.

*I usually lose about 3-9 times or so before finally winning, generally just by the seat of my pants too.

It's not you or Algol, it's the computer. I haven't figured out a way to abuse the AI with him and I don't plan to anymore either. Edge master is so cheap on legendary souls that I had to limit my movelist with nightmare to just 3K, 3AA, GS B, and 1(A) to beat him. He breaks all your grabs, TC all your highs, steps all your mids that aren't As, it's absurd beyond reason.

I literally gave up legendary souls with algol against kilik after losing like 5 times in a row. There is just no point in learning to play against something that stupid. It won't make you a better player.

It's -17. Is it possible to guarantee a just guard against i17 punishers like most 3Bs or Natsu's 66B or are those attacks guaranteed as a punish?

Most 3Bs are slower than 17 frames, but Natsu's 66B will consistently punish it unless it's at tip range. 33A is i20 and completely safe to everything but Patsuka's CE; the second hit of the string is unsafe to step though so it's only worth it if the hit confirm is possible. Another alternative is 66A, which is i17 and -12 on block.

I finished quick battle a few hours ago but you are right, some of the matches I just felt utterly helpless, no matter what I did the computer perfectly countered it and beat me. Ya, legendary souls is out of the question at this point. Your statement that I b/i/u above hits the nail on the head exactly. I wanted to break my controller so many times against some of the A rank patsuka fights in particular.

Glad it's just not me the computer is tearing to shreds though. ;)

Been experiencing that one aswell. Hopefully we'll see a patch for minor stuff like this. Not dropping Algol for a second though.

It seems I have finally found my secondary! I love this guy, but my meter management is terrible when I see it glow I can't help but 3b(be) and follow it up with countless combos. It comes to the point that w/o the meter I am as dumb as a box of rocks! Glad to be a fellow Algonian though :3

well the dude is goddamn FLOATING. makes sense. I love 5k to a fault. kicking people in the head like that at the range it can is so fun though.

seems like highs and some mids can pass through his face while doing 66B cause it TCs. lol

What condition is required for Algol to chair teleport ( B+K ) with his back facing the opponent? In one of the videos I saw it seemed like a straight up frame trap with the A+B followup and god like to punish mashers but I can't really find out the method, i've done it a few times but I just dunno...

Thanks in advance

Stand BT to your opponent, press B+K. Its important that theres room behind your opponent, otherwise Algol will teleport in front of him, facing away. And yes BT B+K~BT A+B is a frame trap. BT A+B~BT A+B is also a frame trap.

The most common way for me to get into The Mighy Chair Vortex is 66A+G, when the animation from the throw ends you'll end up BT. Also there is 4AAB,A+B that ends with yeah... A+B and leaves you in BT. Also you can do Qflip A/B/K and wiff, that will also leave you BT but most likely you'll get punished before having the time to throw out either A+B or B+K.

Ah thanks! Much appreciated.

Also I was trying to do some combos with 6A+B BE ( I think thats it, he shoots 4 bubbles out ) and i've been getting very inconsistent results. The combos involve 2 or 3 of the bubbles hitting, then when my opponent is falling, they get popped up by the last bubble, allowing time for a followup. My problem is, is that they get hit by the wrong bubbles, so when they fall, the only bubble remaining is way too far away for them to fall on, is there a remedy for this or is it really just as inconsistent as i'm seeing?

Ah. Ofcourse 66A+G. My bad, structurising the Frame Data played tricks on my mind :)
I also found one other way using 8B+KK. That also leaves you BT when wiffed. Also 9B+K works if you land behind them :)

About the bubbles I'd assume it has to do with how people air control? I'm not sure since I don't do any 4A+B BE combos myself.
