Anyone have trouble sticking with a character?

I go through characters... learn as much as I can for them... move on... come back with a fresh perspective... rinse... and repeat...

Learning more characters helps keep your enthusiasm up and gives you a better understanding of some of the very basics of the game, especially characters who rely on a particular aspect of the game, like stepping or mix ups, in order to be successful.

"Jack of all trades, master of none"

Sticking to a main character is what will get you the most solid. Simply because training over and over, working on strategies, matchups and so on will get you to know how to deal well with most stuff. It is useful to know the other characters, but nothing can replace an in-depth knowledge of your main character.

While I'm still not a top-level player (working on it though ^^), I know my level changed dramatically as I started to stick to one character (Amy) ...

I'm went through that for my alts. Ivy is a given for me in any SC, but my journey to find a real alt is still a mess. I'm sitting on Asta, Rock, NM and all 3 play like crap to my Ivy...gonna contest the SW is strongest though. In frames...sure, but when her main strength is spacing and stance shifting I have to say CL after watching malek and link.

spoilt for choice huh... ive used cass 90% and mina 10% since i got sc4. but the last 3 months or so, ive mostly used setsuka along with 6-7 others in equal amounts. now my 'mains' are worse than usual , and my new chars are pretty bad. guess i'll stick to what i know, think i'll stick with 3 chars in the future. 'though i do think learning my 'bad match up' chars has been a big help to me.

For me, I gues you just have to get past the WTF stuff and take it for what it is. I really liked SC3 Taki, Asta, Voldo, and Mina. When I tried to play them the same way with SC4, no dice. I still really like SC2 Talim, and totally dropped her in 3 when I saw the changes. By chance, I played her in casuals against some lesser players and started liking her stuff and have since then taken her to another level for myself. And she's actually grown on me and become one of my mains, if not THEE MAIN character I play.

Just have to get past the changes, find your good tools, and put together some head games, test them and retest them, refine them and stick with it.

I've been using Talim as my 1st main since sc2 up until a month ago, I picked up Setsuka as my first main. I still consider Talim my first, but the minority of my first spot if that makes since. Hilde is my second, Cassandra my third.

I have trouble keeping Cassandra up there, but I'm comfortable with her.

I went from Mitsu to Hwang to Maxi in SC1. I tried to learn most of the roster at one point or another mainly 'cause of the skill projects.

SC2 was mainly Maxi. I goofed around with Asta, Kilik, and Yoshimitsu (Yoshi was the closest to being a viable second character) some too.

SC3, Maxi and some Kilik before I dropped it.

SC4, Maxi, Cass (still don't get her really), and Kilik.

I usually have a main character that's sort of my anchor that I'll use 50+% of the time and is the character that people would associate with me.

In SB I mainly played Hwang and in SC1 I played mostly Seig/Night.
In SC2 Maxi was my main and everybody considered me a Maxi player, however my best tournament results came with Cassandra, Yoshi, and Mitsu.
I also really liked playing Nightmare and Ivy in SC2.

Didn't play much of SC3, though what little I did play I played Maxi almost exclusively.

Like most Maxi players going into SC4 it seems, I hate this version and changed to Yoshi as my main. Fortunately I find the SC4 incarnation of Yoshi as fun as previous incarnations of Maxi and way more fun than previous Yoshis.

Unfortunately I still don't have a ps3/60 and the scene here died w/ HDR and was buried w/ SF4 so I haven't gotten to play the game as much as I'd like nor find periphery characters.

originally, I wanted to learn Yoshimitsu entering the world of SC with SC1.

A friendly VS. game those years ago, with a friend of mine revealed "Man, you're better with Maxi. You should use him!-"

So began a LONG road of learning Maxi. SC1, SC2, SC3, and even now with SC4...Too much time, effort, and energy has been put into this character to just throw it in the trash.

Yoshi has always been my secondary(little actual experience), except for SC3...I Seconded Valeria. Yoshimitsu seems more of my main in SC4 with Maxi's changes, but Maxi is still the character I have the most knowledge about and experience with.

I'm a bit surprised and disappointed that almost noone here mentions Taki.
I've mained her since Souledge and I still find her very challenging (=interesting) to play. Right now I'm also playing Tira, Xianghua and a bit Ashlotte and Amy. But I'll always stick to Taki because I don't feel I'll master her any time soon.
I don't care if I have a hard time winning with Taki. For me it's most important that a char offers sufficient complexity. That's why I'll probably drop some of my other chars sooner or later.

I'm currently thinking about learning those chars I find the hardest to defeat. But in most cases that would be more of a tactical decision than actual fun.

Yoshi and I go way back. Yoshi fanboy for life lol.
I played with him since SC2 and never put him down for one second.
But I was already a Yoshi fanboy to begin with. Thanks to:

Seong Mi-na and I also have a history together.
No one I knew seemed to care about her. So I played her since Soul blade I think.
All my friends say "she's ok, but I prefer [insert favorite character here]"
Whenever I wanted to play with a female character in SC, I always picked Seong-Mi-na.
All my friends of course criticized my taste in women, but I didn't care.
I could whip their Taki, Sophitia, Ivy, etc. just to show that Seong-Mi-na is no joke.
Thus, making me an official Mi-na fanboy. Because she's:

:sc4min1:Attractive:sc4min1:

These are the two mains I sticked with; I'm currently looking for another to make history with.

Yes and no, I've always been good with Siegfried in all of the games (and Nightmare in 2), but he's not always my best. It kinda breaks down like this:

In order of how good I was with them;

SC1 - Sophitia, Siegfried, Voldo

SC2 - Talim, Mina, Siegfried

SC3 - Siegfried, Sophie, Talim

SC4 - Siegfried, Amy, Taki/Sophie (Can't decide which I'm better with)

Yeah, I don't understand my thought pattern either.

Well I'm one of those people that can't stick with a main.
As soon as I see something "cool" from one character, I end up wanting to try that character.
The cycle repeats over and for every character except Astaroth. I don't like him much at all.

In Sc2, which i Played about 30-40 games of with my brother, i played some different chars really never go down to a main.
We were/are really hardcore tekken-fans, even played alot of Tekken 4 when it came out (that game was a disaster).
I was playing Jin in Tekken 3, he changed style for Tekken 4. That should be motivation for changing to Kazuya(which i partly did in Tekken 5), but I get really into characters and have trouble letting go.

(back to relevance)
Sc4 came out, my friend bought it (he'd been a fan of the series) and we started having regular gamenights.
Started of with Nightmare and Zasalamel. Didn't really get a good vibe of Nightmare and Zasalamel was just waaay to complex for me being new to the series.

I picked up Rock. I love the huge mace and got better with him. Fell in love with the mindgames and tech traps.
I had a REALLY hard time in the beginning, with my friend using a custom Siegfried with the female voice saying "Maybe you should change your style" after every time i lost. He tried to tell me how Rock was low tier and i should go with Asta instead.
Eventually I watched some videos and got more into the game. We now fight with a very tight record, most best of fives end in the final round of game five.

Latley though I have been playing Zasalamel. He is really alot of fun to play now when I have alittle better understanding of the game. (He is also much faster in general then Rock which completely throws my buddy of guard for now ;) )

You've been Rock-Rolled
Never gonna give up my Rock as main though.

yoshi was love at first sight; picking secondary characters was the difficult part :/ i used yoshi exclusively for months before i finally decided that it might do me some good to pick up others.
