Ask the Dev team of SC4 a question:

Ask them why online sucks donkey balls. Maybe if enough people ask the same question they'll actually answer one of us.

i can answer that for you:

internet connections are just not good enough for frame-dependant online games.

The new buffering system is a good question .. i'd like to hear their reply on that .

That doesn't excuse the unbelievably crappy matchmaking lobby... Not to mention the horrible "Friends Matches" on PS3, making you go all the way back to the PSN menu. I guess that's more an issue bound to the PS3 interface, but they certainly didn't do anything to make it less painful.

I asked them this:

Hi Project Soul,

I've been impressed with the amount of quality and polish that was found in SCIV. However, I was wondering how come there seems to be missing some series staples. This time, the exhibition theatre, character profiles, team battle, and an Edgemaster or Olcadan type character were not included. Why did you choose to not implement these features? Were you trying to focus on other areas of the game instead for this installment?

Nothing to fancy or specific unfortunately lol. I figured more people would be curious about this actually.

Just a note from doing interviews with Japanese dev teams, everything you ask has to be translated. If you use any fighting game specific terms, there's a good chance they'll be translated wrong and you'll get an irrelevant answer if your question is answered at all.

To add what Schneider-X was talking about as far as series staples, I always wondered what happened to players being able to taunt at the beginning of a match at the vs screen while the stage is loading.

I asked questions about the following

1) A second balance/bugfix patch, pointing out Sophitia's overpoweredness and Rock's underpoweredness as viewed by Americans, as well as the Voldo bug that wasn't fixed in the last patch

2) A question on the DLC packs that haven't entered the US outside of the LE coming individually

3) A question on the arcade edition, is it happening, and will that head to the US in form of patch.

4) A question on 1P costumes being part of customization

5) A question about using GGPO or VF's netcode for online play, given the problems SC4 has.

Can you make Setsuka's just frames a bit easier to perform? I see no reward in learning them, because they're pretty basic moves.

heh... the thing is, you know they arent going to answer any technical competitive gaming questions... ive seen atleast 5 or 6 game developers do stuff like this before and they just answer the most basic questions in the simplest way to make them sound good. but it would be nice if they are the first to answer alot of the questions listed in this thread and not just ignore them.

I also asked them this as well, since I'm personally curious about how they decide on how to change characters.

Hello Project Soul,

I've noticed that in each iteration of the Soul series, you have always made many changes to some characters, and few for others. For example, Nightmare remains very similar in Soul Calibur III and Soulcalibur IV, but Ivy has changed greatly with each new version of the Soul series.

What makes you feel that a character should be changed? Do you feel that some characters are already well expressed with their current moves? How do you decide on what kind of moves should be added or taken away to a character?

Project Soul,

Are we likely to see more gameplay patches like 1.03 in the future? If we do, will they be character changes, bug fixes, etc.? Some bugs with GI's not connecting, Raphael's Vampire stance bugged GI that leads to a "death scream" in which the character falls to the ground as if out of health leading to free hits, and random whiffing are still prevalent. Do you have plans to fix them?

Someone please ask them if they can make Raphael's "Quick Parade" so that the enemy cannot guard impact the attack when you're successful. I can't get the site to work worth poop on my lappy. Also, ask them to make "Ebony Stock" safe and track! :D

Seems some of you guys are more less conjuring a wishlist.

I asked a few Maxi question (relevant to my interest, not all Maxi players) and one on Hwang.

Here are the questions I shot at them, all 5 got approved.

1.Yo,(yes, all of them start with "Yo" LOL)

"I was wondering about my favorite SC character, Maxi. The Auto Guard Impact is a very, very nice addition to his Pure Soul Loop 3, however my question is relating to his Wavering Light stance. Why were more options not given to this stance? I understand there is a balence to meet, but Wavering Light holds so much more potiential in my eyes. Such as maybe a cool Bruce Lee styled command grab? Or his old Soul Calibur 2 backward sidewinder move(Back+A+K)? or a way back to Pure Soul Loop 3? Were ideas like this ever played with?"

2."In past games, Maxi having limited low attacks were a problem. In Soul Calibur 3 Maxi 's down+A+B single handedly remedied this problem by offering a solid low attack that allowed high attacks to go right over his head. My question, why was this very useful attack moved to his new Wavering Light Stance?"

3."While Maxi has kept, mostly the same sets of moves throughout the Soul Calibur series. He has actually played very differently throughout them all. My question, what was the vision you guys had for Maxi, playstyle wise in Soul Calibur 4?"

4."One of my personal favorite attacks with Maxi is his attack "Mark of the Beast"(Which I have dubbed, "The Drum Solo"). I noticed in Soul Calibur 3, you switched his "Mark of the Beast" and "Lunging Mantis" commands. What was the reason for this change in Soul Calibur 3? And follow up question, why was the decision for his "Lunging Mantis" attack in Soul Calibur 4 to no longer knock the oppenent down on hit or counter hit?"

5."Although a Maxi player, my second favorite character was Hwang. Why was this character (along with Olcadan and Li Long) cut from the character roster?"

All my 5 questions got approved. Yay!

Can't wait to see what they have to say about the Rock/Astaroth situation and a future upgrade.

My rewarded coins aren't worth a shit. Boo!

Rekano-I can answer your Hwang question.

The answer is online. Look at all the people crying online (including me, lol) at the slow lows that hit. Now imagine 3A and 2K online.

It would be broken and not fun as every spammer will whore Hwang because of this.

I won't be surprised if there is an upgrade and Hwang makes it but 3A and 2K has their animations changed.

Hey guys,

My question is about Ivy, as I'm sure many others are as well. She has always been a unique character with so much at her disposal at any time. In this installment it seems that somebody decided that needs to end. While still being very unique and still my favorite, her frame data on most if not all of her moves is depressing; her buffering ability for her command throws is all but gone (which is understandable), her combos mostly rely on stuns that are easily escaped, and her stances while completely changing her moves in each one (which is fun) limit her options as she must move on a linear path to each stance (as well as command throws being stance specific). What are your thoughts on these issues and where was the Development Team trying to take Ivy in this installment of Soul Calibur?
