Best way to grapple break?

Senzait

Steamed Buns!!
I usually just continually press R1 (A+K) while blocking. This works sometimes but its not very consistent. Do you guys have any better ideas? or is it just timing based? Thanks.

That's pretty much the best way to go about defending from grabs. Of course, you should also mix it up sometimes and mash something like B+K while blocking. If it's not consistent, you're not tapping the button fast enough or getting thrown by the opposite type of throw.

I just buffer in throw breaks while blocking... something I learned in Virtua Fighter...

Fucks me over when we play Soulcalibur 2 though, since you can't buffer in throw breaks in that game.

I might sound like a jerk for this but... the best way to grapple break is to press A or B when you get thrown.

The game has a stupid 50/50 throw break system which is just dumb. So don't feel discouraged if you didn't guess right. Chances are your reaction was on point but the game said haha you guessed wrong.

Yea if u can react to a grab, throw breaking on reaction is the way to go
If u can't tho, buffering it works

No, inputting A+B registers as an A break. Unless you're playing as Apprentice who is the only one in the game that can A+B break.

It's not stupid. You want throws to suck I take it?

There is nothing wrong with a 50/50 throw break system where you can only buffer in one of them. Tekken has a 33/33/33 throw break system... Hell, as of last month, Virtua Fighter changed from it's complicated 6 point throw break system (where if you were pro, you could theoretically buffer in up to three points) to a 33/33/33 throw break system where you can only buffer in one. At the same time though, they made throws only 10 frames, a lot more punishable (you are now considered side-turned when you whiff a throw) and you can Abare through them.

The simplest & dumb proof way to throw break is to smash, SMASH A OR B while guarding OR low guarding. XD LOL SC4 doesn't have VF's Multi-throw escape break inputs.

You just have to guess & be lucky when it comes to throws, but by SMASHING A OR B you'll get the break advantage if guessed right.

THAT'S IT! FINISH!

I'll assume your playing online for this response:
Mash B against kilik, nighty, yun & apprentice when you've got them on an edge.
When fighting ivy, mash a perpetually - it destroys modern online ivy players as they mostly get their damage from cs & have little understanding of her. Offline of course is a different story, but that should help when fighting scrubs, ie. The entire ranked community =P

A+B is also somewhat buggy even on A throws, it will never break Siegfried's 2A+G throw for example.

Also, don't forget to buffer in a throw break whenever you get gi'ed yourself, you can still break them and do a re-gi attempt at the same time.

And against random people online, you can almost always assume they'll do B+G as that's bound to one of the triggers on the default control setup.

I believe, ( not sure though ) this thread is called Best Way To Grapple Break? Not what type of throw mechanics would you like to see in SC???? Partisan heres another thread for you to shut down ;)

This is called TROLLING and your being infracted for it.

Common sense seems to indicate you shouldn't spit into the wind; which is what happens when you troll mods pointlessly.

Not wanting to get flamed here, but was wondering if there are any specific tips or mindsets that might help someone who just doesn't grab break (me) to become someone who does. Should I focus on buffering or reacting? I play mostly online, keep in mind. Should I just get in the habit of always hitting a+k/b+k while blocking, always always always? Is there someone training anyone can suggest, i.e. setting hte CPU to do some sequence of attacks, or even just playing the CPU, or playing as apprentice and challenging myself to break every grab... I'm just still having a lot of trouble following either of these strategies, I just keep remembering to break a moment too late and I'm really getting annihilated vs Astaroth in the last while.

Well where I started with grab breaks, was to mash (especially online) either A or B while guarding. I still actually do it at this point, but with more experience you begin to realize which throw your opponent will do (RO throw, more damaging throw, etc.) and when you how fast you have to input your throw break. It's something you really have to just get used to doing, there's no real quick fix.

Hope this helps.

Well the easiest way for online is to buffer, like most people are saying.... Just tap the a or b button while guarding. Takes a little while to get used to though. Also most people do whatever throw is easiest for them, Some favor A some favor B. Also alot of it depends on ring position. If the person wants to throw you at the wall or ring edge then know what the throw breaks for any character that is able to do that. With yoshi for instance if my back is to the wall most of the time I will throw A for the Rainbow Drop.
If i'm low on health chances are I will try a B throw to get life back. Also knowing every characters throws helps. If they keep hitting you with an A throw then break A chances are the next throw they will try will be B.

People play in patterns alot too, running really close to you to throw, or just blocking waiting by the wall or ring edge. Throwing after certain moves if they hit you, or throwing after they block something you throw out. ususally there is a small pattern to their throw tactics... You just got to either buffer your throw breaks in or start thinking ahead of them and being prepared to break a throw. Throw breaking is even harder online so dont get discouraged. Just practice some different techniques and find what works for you.
Also picking every character and going through all of their throws doesnt hurt just so you have some extra reference on what to break when you see them use it.

Wow, I hate that part in the Apprentice. <_<
I played this one person who kept trying to grab me with the Apprentice and I tried to keep grabbing him to punish him. And to my dismay, he kept using A+B to break my throws, but his Force Gauge depleted rather quickly, and then while the Apprentice was like "Damn..", I got him with a lot of free unblockables and victories. xD
Next thing you know, hate mail. :|

But yeah, a 50/50 grapple chance is alright with me. Still, it would be nice if throws could be Guard Impacted/Repelled like in SC3, instead of only Just Impacts. :P
