BlazBlue - GuiltyGear's next gen cousin

Yea I got to play, I played it quite a few times already. One of my best friends works for Arcsystemworks so I get a chance to play it whenever we meet up.

Having been hyped for this game since it was announced, I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed that there are only twelve chars (ten plus the boss and sub boss). I recognize the benefits, but I enjoy more variety, ya know? Especially in this day and age. I'm definitely buying it when it comes out, and I hope to see plenty of sequels.

Also, mudah, GG isn't dead yet. As has been said, Overture's in the works and is prolly coming out around the same time as Blazblue. I can't think that'll just end the fighting sequels, considering how many people play it.

And Kowtow, I think I heard that he is working on some kinda 3d fighter. Dunno what it is or how it works, or what it's even called.

Actually, GG2 Overture has been released already. It's been released for a while now. It just hasn't hit the states yet (it will this year I believe).

As for the 3D fighter, I can only think of Battle Fantasia which is 2.5D (3D character models + 2D plan), which I haven't been hearing much about as of late. I played the demo and it was pretty fun. I know there are match vids on youtube so I'm pretty sure it's already been released. I just don't know if it'll be coming to the states.

I guess it's typical to see Justin Wong playing and winning in BlazBlue ALREADY. All the match vids were good except for the last one. That Ragna did nothing at all.

The only reason for a 2D fighter to have 3D models is budget. It's cheaper to model the characters and have them connect in the right way than drawing everything.

As for GG Overture. It looks like another Dynasty Warriors... Kinda crappy. Like SC Legends.

Battle Fantasia holds no appeal to me when it comes to character design either.

GG Overture is basically like a mix of DW and an RTS game. You have a base, you can produce units, you can capture other bases, and most of the time the objective is to destroy the other guy's base.

I want to play BF. The console port is getting a US release on September 16th I think. Europe gets it early next year.

Yeah, it should be out the 16th. If not I'll go bum my buddy as Aksys and demand answers :P I'm interested in it too, just for casual play, and to support the movement of ArcSys games to the US.

Overture is exactly as mudah says... don't go expecting it to be Guilty Gear in 3D. However, as with anything that can count combos,

IMO 10 character roster is small, but good that way. One of my biggest weaknesses I have in Guilty Gear are working with match-up dependent strategies (of course my inability to process combos at all is a pretty big problem too but still!).

Anyone think that the whole "Rebel 1" could be a bad joke for the Engrish for "level"?

I hear there are actually 12 characters in blazblue, only the last two are the subboss and final boss, who aren't playable in arcade.

Well... I'd take that as them being Kliff- and Justice-level characters, unless they do some super-nerfs when they become playable :P

Dizzy and Testament were bosses in GGX and they're eventually time released in arcade.

GG2 is actually good but I wish it doesn't have the GG world and characters... Seriously it's 1on1 fighting system is pretty technical and unlike the warriors series you really need to know what you're doing unless you want to die fast. Also the ghetto RTS bit adds alot to it's system as well. Thing has massive potential and if they can refine some bits it'll be really good.

Whoa apparently there are at least THREE more characters yet to be revealed, not including the bosses. People saw names of characters not yet revealed at the EVO loketest I think, and it's been hinted that there are more to come by various people, such as MarkMan unless I'm completely mistaken.

More characters? Can't wait to see them. I hope we get a Slayer homage, who himself is a Shockwave Alberto homage simply because it'd be hilarious. And manly.

One of the most interesting things about this game is that is has a wakeup system more akin to 3D fighters than 2D fighters. Going off of what someone on SRK told me, you can tech in the air, just before you hit the ground or a little after you hit the ground. Missing the timing for a ground tech will probably resutl in the opponent getting a free tech hit. Tech traps are possible and you can bait techs too. Also there are two different control configurations you can choose at the character select screen, a GG style layout of
Code:
BCD
A
or an Arcana Heart/Doujin style layout of
Code:
ABC
D

That layout thing is interesting. Not sure what I'd end up choosing. Probably just stick with the GG style.

im pretty sure theyll add more playable characters in the console versoin....since it has a LONG way to go before release.
really excited about this game.
action looks much more clean than GG. characters look very interesting.
ive never played games with few playable characters...so im very excited about it. hopefully the online is good!

Aksys have said they're trying to get the best netcode possible, and even hinting at using GGPO for the game, so I'm confident it'll be good.
