Character Graph Data

Sett

[14] Master
So I thought to give a numerical value to the graphs provided on character creation.

For each attribute there is only 5 possible rating you can get. 1 being weakest 5 being strongest. For example.
Finished-1.png

As you can see from that combined graph, blue has a power rating of 1, purple 2, red 3, yellow 4 and green 5. For every character they always land on one of the five ratings, there is no 4.5s etc. (Although they can be done in CaS with height changes)

How the graphs portray the character and how the characters actually is, are different things.

Also the 'Ease of Use' stat I don't really consider an attribute, as it means how easy the character is the learn and therefore doesn't relate to the characters fighting ability. So under the overall I put another overall which deducts that attribute. However Ease of Use could still mean all manner of things positive to the character, which aren't obvious.

Fun facts:

Siegfried has the greater overall and therefore the biggest graph. In theory he should be naturally overpowered.

Leixia is the only character with power below two.

Astaroth is the only character with both two 1s and three 5s.

α Patrokolos overall without EOU is unsurprisingly far superior to most other characters.

Patrokolos, Pyrrha and Mitsurugi are considered above average characters but are 11 on -EOU. Suggesting Ease of Use matters.

njoy

Leixia is the only character with power below two.

Lol so true.

I'm still not 100% sure on what 'Attack Rate' means - is it referring to pressure? Plus some of those estimates are downright wrong - Viola has far more than 'average' power. On that front, the 'ease of use' rating is highly subjective in and of itself.

Power and Reach are the only two variables that actually effect gameplay...

Imagine if tiers were actually reflected by this lol.

I guess these arbitrary ratings where what niches that project soul wanted to slot the characters originally, but imo the rating with the least in-game accuracy is power so far. Maybe they mean single BB and AA only, because the combo ability can drive that up or down.

*Looks at Raph and Sieg having the highest rates* *Looks at Omega having one of the lowest*
Yeah the ingame graphs are pretty much BS.
(Although they probably were created with the pre release version 1.00, so maybe they were accurate at that time? I heard sieg was pretty OP in that version.)

Btw the official future press guide has its own graphs for each char. Sieg actually has the lowest rate there. Not that it matters though but the guide is probably more accurate.
They took a lot more attributes into consideration and the values range from 1 to 10.

Edit: You can see the graphs on mitsurugis free sample pages here: click

Maybe someone who has the guide could post the rates for all chars? Would be quite interesting. Keep in mind though, that its all pre patch 1.02.

Those graph data were never accurate. By example Natsu with 2 of reach and power made me laugh so much at this moment.

That's a somewhat subjective way to look at it. One data comes from experienced players who've played the series for years, but the other comes directly from the people who made the game. Not to say I choose one over the other, but the graph has credibility (not exactly agreeable though) and is far from BS imo. As far as the patches go, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't leave it exactly the same as it was on launch if a character received dramatic changes.

I am not a friend of calling BS on something that came from the dev's but its hard to think of anything else, when the ingame graphs would suggest that a char like Raph would be top tier and Omega would be low tier.
I think the problem is that its so vague, for example what does attack rate exactly mean? How is power measured aso.
The guides graph on the other hand, goes very deep.
If anything, the ingame graphs show a pretty twisted image of the chars actual attributes and are "incomplete" at best.
As far as the patches go, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't leave it exactly the same as it was on launch if a character received dramatic changes.
But they did. We know that through patches a lot of chars received some drastic changes while the ingame graphs always stayed the same.

Yeah. For example, take Viola's data. Her power level stays the same, despite the fact that post-patch Viola obviously deals more damage than pre-patch. And her reach rating... technically she has the best range in the game, but she works best with close-range pressure, so it's very misleading. Also, ease of use - personally, I found Tira easier to learn than Leixia, for example. That bit is very, very subjective.

For the record, am I the only person that refers to the graph data as 'status polygons'?

I'm curious as to the 1.02 "ratings" per the guide as well

I actually think, your assumption about the power level being determined by the chars basic AA/BB sounds very likely to be true lol

They didn't really cover combo ability to increase guarnateed damage. I know that attack rate has something to do with stances and ability to maintain offensive momentum despite being guarded.

I am done comparing all the graph data. First of all, the guide is a very great book. Please consider buying it. Kudos to the enormous work those guys put it into it. I for one also bought it to support all those efforts, also considering most of them are very active members of the 8wayrun community. Even despite all the patches it still packs so much information, which should keep you busy learning for months. Just skimming through it took me like two hours.
I hope me posting the graph data is ok with you guys but i guess its such a small piece of information that it should be alright.
I got my exemplar for a measly 18 euro, which is basically theft for what you get. Get one now.
OK, enough with the advertisement.

Disclaimer:
1. Take the graph data with a grain of salt. Although its much more complex than the lousy ingame data, it still doesn't show the full picture of a chars actual strength. Some points are, as hyrule already mentioned, very disputable. So please don't go as far as taking it as an actual tier list or something like that. Its basically just for the fun of it.

2. Before an angry mob of natsu players is coming to kill me: its all pre patch 1.02. Don't forget that, its important.

3. We have 12 values for each character ranging from 1-10: Damage, Throws, Speed, Punishment, Safety, Guard Burst, Ring out, Okizeme, Mix-ups, Range, Movement and Complexity. However i excluded complexity from the placements, as its arguably rather a disatvantage of having a high value here and refers more or less to the difficulty of playing the char. I made a second list with subtracted complexity values.

So without further ado, here it is:

DISCUSS!

I always wondered, why does Ivy have a complexity rating of 4/10? lol

Someone better explain this (camera zoom on Hyrul)

Yeah, well those ratings have little to do with how things look now, but they can still be entertaining to read, eg

Viola

Damage: 4/10

XD
