The only thing I see is a good player working hard to win a major. I don't think we fully understand Helena's disadvantages/advantages fully this early in the game. I'd hate a Viola repeat, but I'd also hate for a character to lose their chance at viability. Example: Chris G used to fuck people up in UMVC3 with Morrigan's 'Soul Fist Spam' until people learned to correctly defend against her. Now the setup isn't near as reliable as it once was. We should really just wait until we understand things better.

Impossible. They have to call for a patch now and completely ruin their game before it is too late.

No, I think people are just too willing to put blame on their character instead of themselves. I think the "patching culture" sort of exacerbates this.

If you have a weak character, so? If you can beast with them then that makes you stronger. (you also have the psychological advantage if your opponents consistently underestimate you just because of character choice.)

If you can't and you don't like it then... play somebody else?


But you don't see that mindset a whole lot.



Maybe it's just the "vocal minority" thing.
 
They do make the game look pretty good.

Props to "The Comeback Kid" ElectrifiedMann though. That was hot.


I've been watching him incidentally on a few Youtube channels for the past couple of weeks. It was a pretty big disconnect to hear people say "lol Helena" and then watch videos of him turn guys into meat paste.

Seriously, look at that. That's some Tekken "lemme stop and go get a sandwich" stuff right there.



Also, is it tradition for Mamba to make puns with his name on stream?

Sure he is good, but somehow..many players dont really know what/how to play against Lady Helena...especially if someone knows how to force wake up with her the opponnent all day everyday!
Im really getting curious how the gameplay in this game will look like after a year...

Yes, Helena is a confusing character. I didn't even realize her 9K launcher hit high until just last week, even though it looks mid...

Also, she is one of the few characters who can ignore the wake-up game. That alone puts fear into your opponent and can make them lock up. Trust me, I know because (1) it's what Bass does in DOA3 and DOA5 for example, and (2) it's what every character attempted to do in DOA4. Now, after the forced tech she can't guarantee anything (unlike DOA4).

Lastly, yes mamba tends to make jokes of his name but is most typically seen as "Black Mamba". He has had various name changes including his twitter "Balack Omamba" shortly after our president's first term in office.

Bill is much like Carl at times. He flip flops a lot, but (unlike Carl) he also is well aware of how his attitude is perceived based on the audience who's listening. Every other event I hear how he's changed his mind on the game and it goes from one extreme to the other extreme. Honestly, his commentary sounded like he was bored to me and I've known the guy for close to 10 years now.

I've seen worse *coughJannLeecough*. I like her style, but she definitely seems like she's gonna be on the receiving end of a nasty nerf despite the lack of safety on her. Personally, I like the game where it is now... y'know, minus the lack of 3 awesome costumes per character.
 
I think what people are seeing is how far ahead of the competition mamba is. Not Helena.

You do realize that that Jann Lee never once just tried to BLOCK a string right? If he did he'd find that she was open all day.

As for E-man, many people are pointing to his beating Rikuto with Helena and saying "Look how strong Helena is!" But E-man also did great with Christie and Kokoro.
