DLC Characters: Who would you pay for?

Who would you buy?

Well you've got to account for a few things.

Let's assume they wanted to bring in an old character as DLC. First, a pair of updated character models have to be made, 1p and 2p. The command list needs to be updated and balanced. CE/BE moves need to be added in. Finally it has to go to Sony and Microsoft, who take a piece before they put it on their networks.

The cost of all that has to be less than the expected return by an attractive enough margin to warrant the work.

Update: Assuming $5.00 a character, the votes on this poll total up to $3465.00

Seems a little low to justify the work it would take. But then again, that's just us here on 8wayrun.

Despite the fact that we represent a very small amount of SC players worldwide, I don't think DLC would require that much effort in comparison with other fighting games. At least for the more popular options (Zas,Talim) the models and movesets are already there and they just need some tweaking. I recall Ed Boon stating that it took them about 3 weeks to finish a character for MK9

Right, that's true :/

How so? Like if we triple it, that's how many we'd need to get those characters? @_@

I meant you triple it to account for the people not on these forums. Though really, you would be multiplying it by 10 or so. That would give you an accurate amount of how much they would make in sales.

So like a BUNCH of money :D

Pretty much ya. They would make money selling all those characters. Hell, a bunch of them they don't have to remake the full model. They just have to age Talim and Mina. Taki would be pretty much the same. Zas.... no change what so ever. Amy I don't think ages. The only new model they would need to make is a new character and Bangoo.

I'd download Talim or Bangoo immediately. Anybody else, I would probably download as well, as long as they didn't cost too much.

Talim's would actually take a lot of tweaking, since she will probably age, affecting her height and body structure.

Zasalamel will probably age as well if he's still in the body from SC3-SC4, but there wouldn't be much change. He would be in the same predicament that Mitsurugi was in.

Don't think Zasalamel would age, if you remember his ending in SC4 that showed him in the modern age he was exactly the same. Though he was recently reincarnated I think

It's always a good idea not to give the customer everything they want. If you get your customer completely satisfied, you've just put yourself out of business!
If I'm not completely satisfied, they will never have my future patronage. Therefore, I would not buy any DLC. I would happily take a free DLC that unlocks by playing the game more.

I wish more companies took the latter route because it would genereate new interest for veterans and re-spark interest to fencesitters who forgot about the game when it was "new" ALL THE WHILE THE CUSTOMER DOESN'T FEEL GYPPED OUT OF THEIR MONEY. But, nope. Companies have magically concluded that the paid DLC model is the most profitable one without even trying the one I proposed.

Dance Central 2 is doing that.
Though it doesn't really have impact on the gameplay, we'll get free DLC characters as soon as the dance-count reaches 100 millions. So it's exactly what you're refering too. And I would gladly take that as well for SC.

lol at free dlc by playing the game. If its on the disk ok I guess but then it would no longer be D.L.C
