Evo 2010

Well I don't know you well enough to classify you as anything SU. You and I are from entirely separate eras of SC. Just in case... you know... you thought I was talking about you. lol.

Like we all agree, it was a culmination of many things that led us to where we are now. No one can really take the blame, which is probably why everyone feels so shitty about it all, because everyone -probably- feels a bit of guilt or responsibility for what happened to the community.

Meh. Finger pointing's counter productive. It's not really the community's fault. Fact is, Namco happened to the community. They never released a patch to update the game to BD's revision etc. All the debate came from Namco releasing a game with poor balance issues then walking away.

No community hangs around a game long if the company behind it doesn't give a crap. That's like blaming what happened to Gears of War 2 exclusively on the players.

I'm chiming in to say hello.

Hm. So the problem we discuss now is that SC hasn't been a strong tournament game. I suppose it never has been. That title belongs to SF. SC was always one of the alternative options in my eyes. Therefore, I don't understand the issue here since I feel that the popularity of a fighting game is ultimately determined by the player's preferences. Soul (as a series) doesn't get that much love. But, no need to be so hard on ourselves.

i see it more of a problem from namco not bringing Broken destiny to the consoles, or make SC4 arcade or even release some patch fixes. There is nothing to attract new people and with people spreading stuff like hilde's broken, algol is cheap, it's a pretty big turn down for anyone that's interested.

cmon ppl, its not about whiners, whiners are everywhere, SC has nothing to do with this. its people themselves.
SF has competition and fun. people are already bored with SC, thats all. everybody achieved what they wanted or could already, no new stars coming up.
Main reason why people quit or switch is accesibility of the game. Not enough players to play. not enough comp. I think right now nothing can shift SC stage. No new challengers = dead game IMO.
Its same for me I've already achieved everything I wanted in SC4 (well, cept winning Cannes), and I think everything I could too. Playing further would be a waste of effort. Maybe see ya in SC5, for now I'm going back to MTG, thankfully that's not as time and effort consuming as SC. I could make it to pro tour or GP in your town though, so we could yet get a chance to play some SC4, who knows xD

I never really got the chance to achieve what I wanted to achieve, simply because I haven't really had anybody to play with except 1-2 people since early 2009. Or maybe I'm just not a very intelligent player. Who knows? Also, I haven't really got the chance to travel as much as I wanted to. But even I realize that the game is dead, and I won't really be playing after DEVASTATION.

While it's sad to see one of the smartest players leave, I don't think anybody can really blame you.

Hope to see you in SC5.

Even though I think SC:BD is trash, I agree with all of this.

For most people, this game died a month before EVO of last year mainly due to Hilde/Algol bs, so you guys aren't telling me anything new. Outside of SF and Smash, what else is strong? All these other games get around 30-40 people to show up for majors and not much else locally.

Or maybe my problem is that I have different priorities than everyone else. My my main goal has been to meet people and have fun. Second goal is to compete at this game. Third is to help grow the game which is even tougher to do with people quitting the game, suggesting to other people that they should quit, dealing with past mistakes, etc.

I could have quit this game a million times over but what keeps bringing me back to the game is that it's fun to play, more fun than all these other fighting games, and is still fun to play with the people who are still around. Plus there are still tons of people I have yet to meet and play, so the game is not dead.

I also play Super, but if SC had better online play, I wouldn't have bought it. SF after a while is boring because it's the same shit over and over again. Everytime I see SC players try to play it, they are trying their hardest to not fall asleep while playing it.

And we went through the same shit last year when SF came out as people talked as if they were planning on competing in tons of tournaments for it, but just stick to playing the game on a casual level. And now the same thing is happening again for Super. But what I don't get is people who are on a site for Soul Calibur suggesting people to quit the game for SF. What am I supposed to say to that, especially when SF puts people to sleep?

Also, SC had no chance at getting into EVO this year when there's only 2 regions that hold tournaments for it. It would have been nice if it was there, and I was doing what I could to get people to support it while trashing other games which I shouldn't have done, but I realize now that I should have focused my attention more on tournaments that want Calibur to be there instead of dickriding on EVO that's only going to feature the game when it's new and then drop it for the next flavor of the month. SC is never going to have the numbers of SF, but the same can be said for these other games unless SF players jump into them to boost numbers.

I do disagree with SC not being a tournament game because we've seen tons of people turn out to play it. But with no update and not enough people in each region to keep things going, there's going to be that dropoff. But the only thing that is really going to bring people back is an entirely new game since it is even harder for new people to get into the game needed a year to catch up. Even with a new game, most people are going to just play it for a year and quit for something else. So what should the diehards do at that point? The same shit is always going to happen. Games get old and people always want something new to play. It's a cycle.

Like I said before, my only options are to either play Calibur or quit for something else. I could go over to SF, but I would need to put in a year or 2 to actually get good at a game that gets boring fast while being called a pot monster. I tried to get into Tekken until I found out that the game sucks, there is no offline community for the game, and there are no elitists over here helping to grow it. After EVO it will be dead outside of MLG and the tournaments that throw huge money at it to get 30-40 people to play in it. I played BB for a month until everyone found out that game was ass. And everything else is in the same boat as Calibur, so I am sticking with the game I have the most fun playing.

And my life doesn't revolve completely around tournaments on around what Thugish and RTD do. And there's still people to play so I am good. And there's plenty of opportunity for someone new to come in and make a name for themselves. So if you are still here playing, awesome. If not, then life goes on like it has been.

--------------------

On a side note, the competition is still around. I know it's tough to get everyone together, but I don't see many people making the trek over to the East Coast where most of the competition is and has been for this game in America. Something-Unique only won one tournament here, but he talks as if he's beasting everyone in this game. Woahhzz, MTFighter, and Dreamkiller are still playing. And Ramon is still a fucking monster. So if you are looking for comp, it's here. If you rather play a boring game that alot of people play and be disparaged as a pot monster, then hop on that Super Street Fighter.

And my life doesn't revolve completely around tournaments on around what Thugish and RTD do.

Main difference between me and u.

You judge people and things to much. Its not a good look. You incorrectly over generalize things to much based on what u don't like hence the other fighting games inferiority rant.

Clearly I stated i'm not interested unless Thuggish/RTD is at a tournament or its international. Yes my tournament life not my life for SC4 revolves around those things as I feel that's all that's left to feed my challenge in a game that's dead.

Stop judging things and people so much. Just let people be who they are and if u can't accept things related to these matters well then don't associate yourself with them. Its better than ending up being a judgemental individual inside out.

Women do that I think u should leave that to them.

more fun than all these other fighting games

Very subjective.

Yes, because it doesn't get boring when you know what will happen whenever you fight against Algol/Hilde/Sophitia. Fun, fun fun!

I agree with this.

Honestly, I'm going to agree with Malice on something I never understood about online forums at all. If you're not feeling the scene or whatever and all you can say is, 'This game is dead", "This game sucks and here's why', 'I'll be back for SC5', honestly, you should just fucking leave. It's nothing here for you anymore. Don't know about you guys, but I rarely ever visit family members' graves after a funeral; if SC is dead to you, then really make it dead. We really don't need to hear for the 30,000th time why you're not feeling the game - we got it the first time.

Whether you're into something else or not, you're not helping the community and you (and no, not you alone) are simply detrimental to the people who are about the longevity of the game (whether they be casual, online, hard, tourney supporters - anything positive really). Last time I checked, the first page said for the 'hard enthusiast' not the 'butthurt and not so enthused'.

I mean, honestly, what it comes down to (seeing as many of you 'move on' to other fighting games) is there there is TekkenZaibatsu, Shoryuken, DoACentral, Dustloop, and countless sites for Smash Brothers. If you love them so much and have so much for this community and/or game and 'what it has become' why keep coming here?

And, honestly, it can't be about all these relationships and all that bullshit, because 90% of the people who 'left' the game (Who are, through the grace of god, still here), only come here to bitch about what they see as the state of the game.

Kayane who do you play in SSF4?

Haha, since i play Xianghua i'm still interested by the same kind of characters, i play Chun-Li. :)

Well, I hope to see some soul calibur players at evo, and if i'm strong enough to play in the big screen in the tournament so that i hope you'll cheer me even if i'm french haha :)

It only shows how much you (didnt) care about them. Dont feed me this pseudo-rational bullshit pls.

Azukin: I play in MTGO, nick De Praestigus Daemonum, but I just recently picked it up, so I dont even have a constructed deck.

Hahaha yes!
This! lol.
Kinda reminds of when the voting was taking place for the spot at Evo and people would come here JUST to post on why they DIDNT pick SC4. lol.

I hate to be repeating the same thing over and over that people have said a million times, but this can't be stressed enough.

People need to learn to COMPROMISE when it comes to things that are making people quit. First VC, then Hilde/Algol. I don't care if you're right and something isn't really winning tournaments or whatever. The community comes first. Don't let it happen a third time.

DON'T LET IT HAPPEN A THIRD TIME.

Oh, and if for some reason you decide you don't like the next SC for whatever reason, and you decide to quit, don't badmouth the game in front of everyone. I hate to call out names, but Vicious and Aris come to mind. It just makes it even more difficult for the people who still like the game.

Compromise is good. The problem is when a major tournament comes along and we can't agree on a rule-set because of regional differences.

Then again, major tournaments are overrated. Just stick to building a strong local scene and compromising within your city/region. Vote amongst your group of players. Everyone else doesn't matter. :)

If that made any sense whatsoever, I'd concur. Visiting a peace of stone once a year is now being equated with caring for someone? Yeah. Guess I should also go the graves of all of my pets.

You know, it's obvious I struck a chord with you (I mean, unless you can find somewhere I named names), so why not reply reply with your own rationale as opposed to a more eloquently put "no ur stupid"?

And, pretty much, like NoFace said, it's as simply as live and let live. Whether or not this game is dead to whoever is up to that person and that person alone. No one is berating you for quitting (at least not constantly to your face), so why bother trying to patronize people who still believe the game to have some life and are putting THEIR own effort into supporting (and asking nothing from you but to let them do so in peace?).

Wow this thread got derailed TERRIBLY.
We can get into who is quitting, why we are all leaving, but hey lets just say things come and they go. It seems the SC4 life came and went like a season of the year. These things happen. Worrying about who is quitting and why just show a lack of maturity amongst folks. No game is gonna stay on top forever, just the way things are... but for the folks that are going to EVO, lets just see if we can meet up and get some casuals in. If we have enough folks we can run a side tourney and make some more memories and all that. Even I am starting to care less for the game due to whining and the lack of comp that doesn't complain about issues we cannot fix etc. etc. I will still be at EVO, I will still play SC4 if there are more folks that wanna play.

See yall at EVO.

warning moral of the day below.

P.S. Drop the beef folks. If folks talked trash about you in the past just chalk it up to them being stupid (Heck I did and won't engage in it). E-arguments are funny but gay. Let it go.
