How many moves do you use?

Ok before i get into it
- i have been playing talim since SCII
-i feel i'm pretty damn good with her

This goes out to the more experienced players

How many moves do you really use?

I consantly find myself using the same moves over and over again. although they are highly effective.

Against better players i have to find new moves to throw in to throw off their timing. do you do this as well?

Do you feel your worse off playing players who suck? Because you create bad habits (esp. with talim) fighting noobies.

If anyone wants to practice their talim w/mine

This pretty much applies with all characters. Of course there are the moves that work, are safe, set up combos, tech crouch, etc and so they will tend to be used more. However, if you're playing someone who knows talim, you are forced to use variation but i still stick to the main moves as long as they don't get punished.

Fighting noobs doesn't really present much of a problem. But it can develop some habits that will get punished but more experienced players.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone use Talim's 3K at all? I usually don't see this move as worth anything as it's got horrible range (even for her) and it's not very damaging or practical. But it is a 15 frame safe poke that covers step to her left side and gives a slight advantage on hit though.

that move sucks... like most of talim's moves (i'm just being bitter)

i sometimes use it when i'm trying to use 6k and my sorry a$$ xbox 360 controller does 3k. It lands sometimes...

Yeah I don't like 3K either. The only thing about it worth noting is that it's her second fastest non-high step killer, second only to 2A (since for some reason her 2K, a circular sweep, can be stepped at times...). Other than that though there's really no reason to ever use this move to my knowledge. Unless if you're fighting someone with an auto GI to mid/low horizontals (like Kilik's Monument stance) you could use it without fear of GI maybe...

:3::K:'s a pretty fast kick- sometimes the opponent doesn't block it so it's free life bar.

Well I can admit that I was wrong about 3K. It isn't quite as useless as I once thought. It's still only useful in specific situations, but I think that because of it's +6 frame advantage on hit and 15 frame impact, it can be a somewhat decent tool in pressuring people up close and/or when they're cornered.

It's got a nice surprise factor too since hardly anyone ever sees it. Often times it makes for good CH bait. I can see it being especially useful against Kilik and Hilde since they can't auto GI it.

However... I do have a gripe about her 4AA. From what I can see there is absolutely NO reason to ever use this move unless you're clearly fighting someone with zero Talim experience. The low is too easy to see coming, and it's unsafe. On top of that, the move does not combo. At all. So even if you managed to earn a CH, doing the low can, and often does, result in punishment. If it comboed, even if just on CH, I'd except it. Without it though, it's only use seems to be to set up the 4AK "mixup". But again, once people realize how painfully easy the mid is to block, that doesn't work either. Thank God, 4AK is safe.

:4::A::A:- sometimes people don't expect the second hit (they just block the first hit, but ya experienced people know about it). Mix it up with just :4::A:.
It moves you in closer.

Sometimes I use it on grounded opponents, esp. if they are rollin around.
If they get up when it hits they are grounded again.

I usually say, "low" when I do it and it still hits some people.

I thought about using 4AA on wakeup. It'll catch rollers if they don't get up right away, but most people just block it low and punish. I could switch it up with 4AK, but Talim has much better ground hitting options at her disposal.

I wonder just how awesome it would be if you could cancel the move after the first hit. Like maybe if you canceled the low it left you in FC or something. Same with 44AA. If you could cancel the second hit of that move it would be simply amazing. If only...

I usually use all of her safe attacks and all of her stance attacks.
Then you must not use a lot of moves... lol.

I find as a Talim player that you MUST use her unsafe attacks if you expect to get any sort of damage.

I usually use all of her safe attacks and all of her stance attacks.

a lot of her stance attacks are unsafe though...

But anyway, welcome to the Talim soul arena, Talim. Always nice to see more Talim players joining the scene.

(Man, that's a lot of Talims in those sentences...)

After a online playing sessions tonight I came to the conclusion that online all the moves I use are:

:A::A::6::B: Wind stance variation.

:2::A:+:B: I do this EVERYTIME I knock someone down. After grabs etc. People online think it's rollable or a low attack due to it hitting them on the ground. Guarenteed free mix-ups after it wich leads me to...

AS :A: Ah the queen of online play, free follow up into wind charm for more mix-up goodyness.

AS :A:+:B: The king of online play. Free :2::A:+:B: into mix-up and this move's range is huge. And due to online lag it isn't really that punsishable.

Throws: Not the multi-part ofcourse, that's way to difficult to do with lag, however your opponent freezes up after you do this.

:4::B::B: and the guard break variation. Okay this move is actually also really good offline but in online it shines aswell.

Edit: Best move however (thanks to ZeroEffect317) is :1::A: wich also leads into WC mix-ups.

These are the only moves you ever need online. If you ever see someone not Talim-experienced, you can combo every move wich knocksdown into the :2::A:+:B: into the AS :A: into the WC :A::A: into the grab into the.....

Now for my offline/almost perfect online latency list:

Everything. Variation is key to Talim. This is especially true with the stances. I am starting to do a lot more WC into WL variations, most people don't see that coming. If you are playing a perfect defense/punish player with sophitia however, I can't give you advice on that since I am yet to beat it. There must be a way ofcourse but it's really hard.

Also there is one key-move I am starting to use a massive amount (I am almost abusing it). And that's the WL :A:+:B: cancel. I love this move. It's not hard to dodge it, you can just backstep it, but most are seeing red flames of doom coming towards them so they sidestep. And that's where the AS mix-up comes in. But ah well. I keep spamming till I find someone that beats me out of it (wich is probably anyone on these forums..).

im not to good with talim yet but ive found 1A+B to be a godsend
edit: any advice on 236B , ill occasionally get it on wake up but other wise only noobs eat it. anyone found a reliable place for this?
