Point me towards all these RPGs that play like old final fantasy, I would love to play them.
DS and 3DS seems to have a bunch. I should note that I'm not exactly a guru when it comes to JRPGs. Maybe the quest design and world design is very different now, but I see plenty of JRPGs use similar battle systems as 90's JRPGs.

P.S. YOU’RE ALL FUCKING TERRIBLE AT THIS GAME YET YOU’RE THE FIRST ONES TO DEMAND MORE INNOVATION. HOW OBNOXIOUSLY PRETENTIOUS AND FUCKING STUPID MUST YOU BE.
I would reply to this, but I have no idea how. I bow to your caps lock skills.

As far as 3d fighters go SC5 is probably the most popular one right now. If you're trying to compare it to 2d like SF and mahvel, no 3d's are anywhere near their numbers. But lets just ignore the fact we're 2 years into this game and still at tournaments. Its ded :/
TTT2?

I think the only companies who would do something daring/new are indie game developers.
New screams risk. No one likes taking risks.

I think the OP made this thread garner the attention on purpose. We still haven't heard his input on the subject matter.

If only SCV had made some real changes in the Soulcalibur franchise.... Oh wait! That is the thing I see people complain about the most on here. Make up your minds.
What I was talking about (and CaptainHook as well) is an entirely new game with completely new mechanics, not a new entry in a franchise with changes on an existing gameplay system. This is probably the wrong thread to talk about it though as it wasn't really what the OP was asking about.

Exactly.

Gamers don't want innovation.
...and the Soul Calibur Community is no exception, if you ask me.
JUST NOTICED YOU POSTED IT, TOO. NICE.
THIS INFORMATIVE VIDEO IS NEW AND HAPPENS TO BE RELEVANT.

MONEY TALKS. MONEY VALIDATES THE IDEA THAT MOST PEOPLE DEMANDING INNOVATION ARE HYPOCRITES WAITING TO BUY THE NEXT OFFICIAL SOULCALIBUR WITH NEW COSTUMES AND NEW GIMMICKS AND A CHERRY ON TOP.

What kind of batshit insane stupid dream is this anyway?

"i like SC, but I really wish it was a platformer RPG hybrid with open world elements."

If you want that, then you don't want SC. Go play whatever the hell it is you actually want to play.

But mostly, I think the real problem is the fact that the target demographic for the FG market is older gamers who are old school and started off playing FG's from the 1990's, who mostly want the same tried and true formula. There aren't enough newcomers or young gamers who like fighting games for them to want to take a risk on a totally fresh idea.
That's an exceedingly strange take on things as most of the active SCV players are 17-20ish.

Where did I say that's what I want? I don't see what's so controversial about wanting a new kind of fighting game. For instance, I think a modern game made in the same vein as something like Bushido Blade would be neat.

This usually applies to big gaming corporations who usually copy the formula mostly from successive game titles because less to no risk is involved.

Their business model compared to indie game companies are different, sure they both need/want money but there are indie game developers that take different approaches to crafting their own unique game.

It's not that I want the same formula of games to be abolished, but definitely more unique game to be in the mix because the former is getting too common that's one of the reasons why old school gamers exists.

The most changes i have seen are "inspired" from other, mostly 2D fighting games, and don't strike me as overly innovative.
