There's denying it, SCV is a base-breaker in every meaning of the word.

You either like the game's package and offerings or you hate them.

My locked-down insight into the game should be a clear indication as to where I stand on this game and you can find it on Deviantart if you're interested. But for brevity's sake, here's my four-word summary:

I don't like it.

The game was rushed out the door as admitted by it's director;
It's storyline was incomplete again from the words of it's director and had multiple inconsistencies with the established canon of the series, not to mention the bad writing and poor execution from said-storyline;
The gameplay was decent, but was needlessly complicated and geared more for hardcore gamers to the point of selling out it's soul and unique identity;
Multiple characters had disappeared from the roster without explanation and took their combat styles with them;
Most of the new characters were rarely showcased and focus was placed on the least likable of the newbies that had screentime;
It pointlessly sacrificed character space to add in two semi-mimic characters for a grand total of three mimic characters;
Two character slots were given to alternate versions of existing characters when they could've been merged into the same slot (Think Shiek/Zelda and Samus/Zero Suit Samus from Super Smash Bros);
There is hardly any offline content with the distinct absence of single-player modes, character profiles/art, and "so-called" fluff which harms replay value;
And add all of this together and the game seems very unrecognizable as a Soul Series game.

Some agree with me and others don't for their own reasons. But, here is the question that I'll pose to fellow fans, both casual and hardcore. Is the series in trouble? Will SCVI be the saving throw that determines whether it dies ingloriously or endures beyond it's missteps? Do future games need to continue with SCV's approach or return to it's roots and follow the example of past games from SCI to SCIV?

If the series is not in trouble, then (maturely) explain how it's just fine and whether anything can be learned from the flaws of SCV (whether you liked it or hated it)

For instance, here would be my reasonable recommendations for SCVI following SCV:
1) Don't rush the game
2) Scrap most of SCV's story (Particularly Patroklos w/Soul Calibur and the related deus ex bullshit in Chapter 16) and do something similar to SCIII's story mode w/cutscenes
3) Give us back the Guard Impact from previous games (Why did they take this away?)
4) More cast variety and no disappearing characters/weapon styles
5) Equal amount of offline and online content

The series is not in trouble, SCV did well for the amount of advertisement it recieved . No, I don't want Mi-Na Back. No , I do not care for whatever character design you want to be featured in the next SC ( even though SCV has a CaS system, where you can create whatever dumb design you wanted) I did not read this thread because it will always be akin to the same negative crap you continue to post on this website. Your waifu a shit

The series is not in trouble. Soul 5 sold a lot of copies and it even out sould (ya see what i did there huh) Tekken Tag 2, so I dont think its really reasonable to say that the series at all is in jeopardy. soul calibur 5 was very rushed as far as single player and characters are concerned but i feel like the game mechanics are by far my favorite in the series. if one of the biggest earthquakes in the history of japan didn't take place during the game's development cycle, we would have all the things we are asking for. its just unfortunate things happened the way they did or else it would conflict with tag 2's launch if it was delayed, so its a dick. idk how else to put it

The series is not in trouble. Soul Calibur V was on time constraints, and there was a lot of content that was left out of the game, hence 1/4th of the story mode being used. If anything, Project Soul is making an effort on trying to get their fans back into the game. Sure, some people were indifferent about SC5, but you can't argue with its sales vs. TTT2. With the release of Soul Calibur 2 HD Online, and upcoming titles such as Lost Swords and Unbreakable Soul, Project Soul is testing out what works and what doesn't, making it helpful to them to get it right for Soul Calibur 6. Yes, they did leave out the veteran characters (including Seong Mi-Na), and changed a lot of things, but like I said, if they get it right with the content that they're coming out with, fans are going to be clamoring over it. So yeah, the series isn't in a rut, it's still a work in progress to something better. So I wouldn't count out Project Soul because of the time constraints looking back at it, and not so much dropping the ball.

1) Namco rushed SCV so it didn't want to compete with TTT2. Project Soul did what they could before the deadline.
2) The character profiles were rewritten on their website.
3) SCV's GI system is just fine. The only adjustment I would want is 4A+B+K to GIs High & Mid Attacks. While 2A+B+K GIs Low Attacks. Reason is SCV's GI system is TOO GOOD.
4) It'll be interesting to have more varied styles including styles that aren't in SCV, but it'll be harder to balance the game because of multiple characters & potential moves that can be broken when making a character super perfect.
5) I agree with you on that a fighting game should cater to both casual & hardcore players.

Trouble? This shit sold more than TTT2 with bad reviews and barely any exposure.

The only trouble this series has is whinny-ass story fanboys who complain about the racial fucking diversity and political correctness of the cast. You all bitched about the single-player content with SCV, and now that a single-player game comes out everyone bitches about it. None of you even know what you want.

You need to take a chill-pill.

Is it really "bitching" for a new installment in a series to be consistent? Change is fine, but it has to be a change that makes sense. There were changes between SCII and SCIII and those were good; there were changes between SCIII and SCIV and they were also good; and SCV had some good things going for it, but it dropped/sacrificed too much for too little gain. I'm not the only one who didn't like a lot of changes made to SCV and frankly, I don't appreciate the elitist tone that you're using.

The game sold well? Okay. That's good news and that means that the series retains a strong following. But profit doesn't always equal quality, remember Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? It made a lot of money, but it's now regarded as one of the worst movies ever made (Personally, I didn't think it was that bad. But I can see why people hate it) The Phantom Menace also made a lot of money, but it's considered the weakest and most disappointing Star Wars movie ever made.

Critically, the game is lagging behind the rest of the series with reviews also pointing out the lack of offline content, bad story mode and some also didn't like the gameplay changes. On Metacritic, the critical score between the PS3 and 360 versions can be summarized as a 79 compared to 85(SCIV); 86(SCIII); 92(SCII) or 98 (SCI) with user reviews for SCV being even more mixed (6.6 to 6.2) as opposed to previous games where user reviews were mainly positive(8 to 9) .

Maybe the series isn't in trouble, but the base-breaking reception to the packaging, presentation and handling of SCV should've sent warning signs to PS on things that they shouldn't repeat in SCV. Even PS admitted to this when they announced Lost Swords and said that a large portion of fans like the story, setting and characters.

SCV should've had equal offerings for casual/competitive gamers because both are part of the fanbase and both wanted SCV. But ignoring one half of the fanbase to appease the other is not only disrespectful, it's also deceptive and bad for future business. If PS repeats this mistake for SCVI then that will be the last game in the series, I kid you not.

How many negative threads are you going to make?
Blunt, maybe. But I'm not trying to be "needlessly" negative, I guess I'm just asking the wrong questions on this site and I can't lie about objective observations that I've made in SCV.

This thread was made to inquire what others thought and I fail to see the harm in it.
