Ivy matchups discussion and strategies

3[A] shouldn't be used up close anyway. If you are sure your opponent will step, use 4A. Safe + better damage.

I think that 3[A] was nerfed a lot in SCV because of the new system mechanics. In the last game it was i16, now with the unsafe step and backdash it would be completely broken because it would work as a anti-BD, anti-SS and a frame trap if the opponent was at -4~5 or more.

The problem is this won't get around those nasty TS/TCs like Pyrrha's 88K or Natsu's 88A(?). Or even Ivy's 88K.
That depends on the frame disadvantage your opponent is at, but yeah, if you want some damage you gotta risk. With 4A and 3[A] it's all about reading your opponent because those moves are risky and pretty slow. I noticed a lot of characters have fully tracking mid 3K's, if only Ivy had something like this.. it would make our life so much easier.

doesnt 3k

Go into training and have Asta bullrush followed by a sidestep. If you 3K after blocking his bullrush, I believe he can step it to your left.

But yes, unfortunately Ivy doesn't have something like Pyrrha's 66A. However, most of her stepkillers have better damage than that on CH.

3B is broken.

By the way, regarding Nightmare matchup. It seems he can backdash 80% of Ivy's moves after 1K on hit. Best not to try to retaliate because his whiff punishments are incredibly strong. His backdash is crazy, and Keev abuses it. Kinetic, you should watch Keevs fights and see when exactly he BD in hope for a whiff.

Thanks, that's a good idea. Regarding his run up 1Ks, do you think throwing out 7B when I anticipate one of those is a good idea? How badly can NM whiff punish 7B?

On block he won't be able to punish it hard. I think 6K and 6A only. But if he steps it can hurt more. I think maybe using 9B is a better idea. It has the same block frames but will also kill his backdash. Throwing out 7Bs will make your more vulnerable to his backdash+whiff punishment.

no misreading on my behalf you noted it wrong, you said you dont do it for launch, if you dont want to be questioned, make sense in the first place

Closet troll, saying I don't do it for launch, is like saying I don't break a dam to get people wet. It's for the damage, but the launch is inevitable, you do know a fully charged 3 A+B B beats the typical one when it's safe on GB. I didn't acknowledge your 2A+B on GB because it defeated the purpose. You DID read me wrong. Case closed. -rolls eyes-

Anyway
Shit, gotta go to work

Oh okay, I forgot that NM doesn't have the best punishes. Also, what's Ivy's best way to counter NM's 3(B) stance options? 4A and 4K are really risky. And 214B sometimes gets hit by bA, and I don't think it punishes the regular 3B.

214B works against most options but it's range specific and also if nightmare delays something it can hit 214B. Not sure if there is any universal way to beat his stance options. You just have to guess right.

You can also try to JG, or just block since most (if not all) NSS options are punishable on block.
