Modding SoulCalibur 3

I have the European version of soul calibur 3 and they say that NTSC runs faster but less pixals while PAL runs slower with more pixals.
 
I am running the European version of the game on an American PS2. Using Sawp Magic 3.6 (on NTSC)! The game speed is absolutely equivalent to the U.S version. and IMO it looks way nicer than the U.S version.

More importantly it's more balanced than the U.S version. the game only needed, IMO, certain character tweaks and VC removed (all of it is gone except Mitsu's *22_88b cancel...which is very easy to deal with...unlike Xianghua's 66a+b cancel*).

again if you're gonna play sc3: arcade edition, mind as well play sc4.

my ONLY issue with this version of the game is...the main intro for U.S sc3 is gone. and it's replaced by the chronicles of the sword intro...

and that is hella lame :(
 
movie.afs is the intro file.

In SC2 the intro file was universal across all 3 platforms, so you could have the intro with spawn on the PS2 version, vice versa, or even get the intro with Link on xbox/ps2 if you have the GC files.

SC3 is probably the same, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if you could replace the SC3 intro with one of the SC2 ones.

dee4doa, have you tried replacing an SC3 stage file with one from SC2? I haven't tried doing that but it might work..
 
Okay so apparently throw vc is still in the european version on sc3 (i played just ownin yesterday, and he did it with zasalamel). oh well we can just ban it so no worries. this game is STILL the best calibur ever made.
 
Here's the file Amy's 2p costume from SC3:AE, I just tested it on the PS2 version and it works.

With some luck I might have SC3:AE for PS2 working. :)

and I was wondering if you could find Ivy's ghost twin for me, I cannot find the file to swap her 1st costume for her =(

btw what about their second player weapons? or the ancient version of the weapons from Olcadan? Also not sure about this, but I heard a long time ago that Inferno in SC3AE had Cervantes Moveset + his moves from SC2 (the spin move, and the 2 throws), what about those?

Sorry if I'm asking for too much. Thanks for what you have done so far :D I really hope you manage to make SC3AE working :)
 
I need some help. I tryed scan character models in root.olk file with OLKexplorer in soul calibur 2 (ps2 version), but i don't know in what file they are located ( total there are more then 1000 files). I need Heihachi, Necrid, Ivy and Cervantes character models.
 
All of sc2's character files are located in File5.olk

Ivy's 1st costme is 281.pkg her 2nd costume is 282.pkg
Heihachi's 1st costume is 944.pkg his 2nd costume is 945.pkg

hey OOF did you manage to get the Legend Mode wroking? because I was wondering what it's like. Couldn't you just swap the whole AE ROOT.OLK file with the console OLK file? mabe then we would have all of the movesets, stages and extra characters and modes working! ^^

Put the CD in your PC, open the files of the CD on your screen and you'll find it. To open it you'll need to use OLK explorer.
BTW, since I have a PS2 emulator on my PC, why not to try modding my SC3? :P

But I have a question though...
I copied my SC3 on my lap-top, but do I need to turn it into ISO and the start modding it, or do I just need to copy the files as they are? Well, I did the second thing and I opened the ROOT. OLK file with the Olk explorer but I got this:
Now what should I do?

This thread is just great!

With OLK explorer I modified the root.olk file from the PS2 Soul Calibur 3 ISO, but I couldn't repack the modified ISO with MagicISO and get it to work & boot, so I searched around and found a little PS2 tool called Apache 1.1 3.1.0 what this little program does is it easily opens the original ISO, you then select the root.olk file to be replaced with the modded one, the program updates and repacks the ISO automatically in the correct PS2 format, really simple. load it in your PS2 emulator or PS2 console and enjoy your mods.

In this case I swapped Nightmare's 2nd edit costume (File174.pkg) with Inferno.pkg from the Soul Calibur Arcade Edition package posted earlier in this thread, and it works great even though it still uses Nightmares movelist and the written name says Nightmare, the announcer correctly calls it Inferno whenever the match is starting or ending, and it uses Inferno's voice when attacking or being hit.

Here are some more shots by substituting some of Nightmare's costume color edits with non playable characters: Night Terror and Inferno.

Given the fact that Night Terror is using Nightmare's moveset in this mod, he can only select Soul Edge in the versions available to Nightmare, so he is not wielding Soul Edge (Complete) thus the lack of wings, this means that you can actually ring out Night Terror just as any other character.

Does anybody know where are the actual weapons stored in root.olk?
If we could replace the dumb/joke weapon slot with Soul Edge Complete I think it
could be possible for either Nightmare and Night Terror to regain the wings and avoid any ringout.

Also I did try to import Raphael from Soul Calibur 2 unto Soul Calibur 3 just to test, however Sc2 character files seem to be somewhat larger than those found in SC3 and that gave me an allocation error, so no succes yet on that issue.




Inferno is no longer a Soul Calibur Arcade Edition exclusive ;)

Now here we have Young vs Old Zasalamel, the only weird thing is that the announcer calls the old Zasalamel "Mitsurugi" but he does fight like normal young Zasalamel.
