[Oct 7, 2011] DEVASTATION 2011 (Phoenix, Arizona)

I hate to see anyone backing out, but false pretenses? That's a bit of a stretch. No announcement was made... unless you want to count the announcement of an announcement. But that could've been for anything.

1st off I say this with no malice (as I can come off as forceful sometimes) but I don't think it's a stretch by any means. There was quite a bit of insinuation that was used to create hype in this community and led to certain...expectations. Now this insinuation kept coming and coming as close as, I would say last week, 2 weeks at the latest. Now I understand things happen behind the scenes that we have no control over but for people to be disappointed now and probably not show up under these false pretenses that were strongly insinuated I feel is perfectly understandable. Remember it wasn't the "announcement of an announcement" that got people hyped, but what was insinuated that gave people that extra incentive to go to Devastation. That whole "could've been anything" is a bullshit cop out. As I said though I understand that things happen so, meh.

Now I'm still going as I love my SC people that are gonna be there and I'm sure we'll have a good time. But as far as a Soul Calibur standpoint maybe Hawkeye was right (even though everyone gave him shit for just mentioning it) that it would've been prudent to save up for NEC as that is where the major SC gameplay is gonna be. All that other stuff that some people may be looking forward to, good for them. But as far as myself, I care about SC shit, (that's why I come HERE) all that other stuff is gonna be irrelevant to me.

So anyway, here's to making the most of what us SC players will have and lets have a fucking blast with what we can. I plan on getting thrown out of the venue one more time just to leave an indelible imprint of how awesome and rememberable us SC people are.

Yeah...not going to lir...my Chitown bros not going hit my morale for this tournament hard. Still, I ant to show the west side some love....even though I really sould be focusing on some class stuff...

I must of missed something, what was the announcement?

DrDogg implied there would be some sort of announcement for something related to SCV, presumably from Namco themselves. Nothing really concrete, but implications and all...

It doesn't affect me too much, though. This is gonna be my first big tournament, so I'm hyped as fuck. Also my nephew really wants to go because he loves him some anime and Kingdom Hearts, so I told him I'd chaperon him (since he's 12).

If you were going ONLY to see a live announcement from Namco, then yeah, I could understand wanting to back out, but there's gonna be so much to do there, and there's gonna be a lot of SC people there, too - I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to get your money's worth out of it.

Not gonna lie, that was one of my major reasons for going. Didn't actually RSVP until you implied that Namco would be there in some shape/form.

NoFace... You asked if anyone could pick you up from the airport BEFORE I mentioned anything about an announcement. Also, you asked me if you had to pay for the Thursday party to take advantage of the announcement. If you really thought it was SCV at that point, why would we limit it to Thurs only and 250 people?

Here is my only post on the matter (aside from responding to NFK about when I'll make the announcement)...

Now then...

*clears throat*

If you like Soul Calibur, and you're on the fence about coming to DEVASTATION... I STRONGLY suggest you make it a point to attend.

Announcements are coming...

Now, at what point did I say anything about Namco? Yes, I agree it can be implied that I was referring to SCV, but from what I said here, you can't say one way or another. I think Filthie Rich posting shortly after me would have more indication of Namco/SCV than my post.

Again, I understand the assumption, and no one is more displeased than I am (well, possibly Robb) about the lack of an announcement. The "change" literally happened on Monday.

I apologize if people feel that false pretenses were presented, but I don't agree with that statement. If the only reason some were coming was based on my above quoted post, then why is it no one sent me a PM to confirm? Not a single person said, "DrDogg, I'm only coming if this forthcoming announcement is what I think it is, so before I book my flight, could you confirm one way or another if it is what I think it is?"

Also, the above quoted posted was made on Sept 8. This thread was created in July... >_>

Not saying I agree with the whole "false pretenses" thing either; NDK simply asked a question and I let him know what a few people are feeling. But you have to remember that implications can be very subjective - really, you can take many different things from "announcements are coming". It's an incredibly vague statement, and the lack of communication on both ends doesn't really help anyone decipher the actual meaning behind it.

But as I have said, this doesn't affect me in any way at all, and I'm still very hyped for DEV. Besides, is seeing an announcement in person really that big a deal, when everything gets streamed on 8wayrun anyway?

Yeah, I mean it sucks all the way around. I'm extremely disappointed in how things turned out. There was no communication because I had nothing to communicate unfortunately.

The event will still be super awesome, and SC4 is still getting the love that we always try to show the community. It just won't be as ridiculously awesome as I had hoped. :(

What are you guys, tools? Go with the facts first. Don't let dem bitches make you buy dinner first only to give you no play afterwards.

LP: I hope you don't show up.

Nofacekiller: I also hope you don't show.

Everyone: Let me win the tournament, please.

Sorry, this tournament goes for a latin player, no matter what.

I'm working on the stream schedule right now. It's looking like almost the entire SC4 tournament will be streamed. We'll probably start streaming after the first round, then stop at either grand finals or top 4 and then run those on Sunday.

Please tell me that grand finals will not be ran on Saturday.

Just looked at the schedule and only a handful of games are being played on Sunday.

DEV considers Soul Calibur a major fighting game. It will get lots of stream time, including top 4 (maybe even top 8) on Sunday. Although, I currently have it slated as the first title on Sunday, so be ready to play at 10am Sunday morning.

Yeah, the earliest the better, I have to flight on sunday :(

Uber bummed that I can't make it, damned schedules being what they are... When SC V comes out, I plan on (finally) getting into the tournament scene. Somebody needs to come in last place, after all, right?
