Official SCV Stage Discussion

actually, there are actual PC fighters. not talking about Mugen. talking about actual games produced by actual companies. like Busty Brawlers and Arch Blade.

like Busty Brawlers and Arch Blade.
Those are very distinctly not fighting games. They're combat-oriented MMORPG's/Brawlers.

There are very few real fighters for PC, and even fewer are actually good. There's SF4, Blazblue, Guilty Gear, SFxT, Hinokakera, Mythic Blades [just maybe]... and that's about it. Oh, and a couple of games from the mid 90's that don't even work on Windows 7. There's also some decent Doujin fighters and MUGEN games, but the majority are utter garbage. I think the main problem is how complex the inputs are and how difficult it is to get movement on a keyboard (ever tried to play KoF on an emulator?).

The one market where fighters are gaining popularity is China, but we'll probably never get to play one of those games.

wow. you forgot Melty Blood! those aren't MMORPG's. i'm curious if you know the actual definition of that acronymn. O_o

but there are a good number of fighting games for PC. it's just a matter of googling sht.

P.S. you also forgot Arcana Heart series.

Do you seriously expect me to name every single PC fighting game out there? I only named the obvious ones.

Of course they are, and of course I do. I've played ArcheBlade myself and I can guarantee it's fighter-inspired at most; it's more comparable to Rakion or GUNZ than to Soul Calibur of KoF (or even those Naruto fighting games).

That's the thing though. RPGs? FPSs? Racing games? MMOs? Puzzles? These kinds of games are everywhere, you can ask anyone for a PC game and you're guaranteed to get one of those for an answer. Fighting games, though, are a whole different story. Unless you're going for Street Fighter, you'll have to spend a long time researching in sketchy Japanese sites and Googling up for hours to get you hands on a [probably illegal or doujin] download link. I shouldn't have to go through all of this shit to play a fucking video game. Oh, and 99% of the time it's some insipid, anime-inspired crap that might as well call itself "Mugen made without Mugen." Or some mind-numbing 3D "fighter" where you'll spend more than half of the time just moving your cursor around to aim and mashing the mouse buttons.

How many PC fighting games can you find at your local store? How about Steam? You'll be lucky to find Blazblue for your Windows RT tablet, and that's a huge stretch. Last time we got a well budgeted and published fighting game for PC outside of a Capcom port was, essentially, never. The industry input on fighters is essentially null for PC, you can't argue against that.

And please Vincent, stop trying to argue against every post you see here; it feels like you come to 8WR just to bitch. I don't know what happened to you, you used to be fun to hang around with, but now all you do is complain.

i didn't complain though >_>

i thought we were having a casual convo. didn't think of this as an argument or anything. i just started really playing PC games so i'll admit that i don't know too much. but i have a friend that's on that stuff all the time. if i get pointed out that i'm wrong on something then i'll admit that i'm wrong. but right now we're giving out opinions.

and i'm under a lot of stress lately so that might be why i'm not so positive anymore. for the past year i've had a huge weight on my shoulders that i'm trying to throw off so just bear with me. and kindly point out if i'm getting out of line.

I'm sorry to hear that. I apologize.

You know, it totally sucks that we have swimsuits, yet no beach stages in SCV. At the very least, something tropical and paradise like?

I can pop in Tekken 4 and TTT2 for something tropical. I can pop in DOA5 for Zack Island, yet when I pop in SCV I can only use Aeon's stage as a swimsuit stage...

Something like this would even get me interested(more medieval though). Fight on grassy cliffs, ring-outs are the ocean. At least, it'd be something different than more boring european chaotic yet bland stages....

While we're at it, some European alleyways. I prefer Italian though. Just do it like Pyrrha's stage except day time. Pat's stage is nice but it totally sucks that there isn't more.

Finally, rooftops. Like seriously. Ring-outs can be you falling off a roof.

That's all I got.

Well, I guess including swimsuits as CAS options was wanting to include more modern things. Of course that's one difference between SCV and Tekken/DOA.

Does that limitation matter? Well, people are going to say no...
Except me....

Actually, I agree with you. This game has been getting a bit too much inspiration from Anime, WoW-like fantasy nonsense, and other modern crap that has no place in a seventeenth-century setting. It's almost like they don't want the game to be taken seriously, releasing stupid firefighter and swimsuit costumes instead of garments at least somewhat related to what the game is really about. Soul Calibur needs to return to its origins in terms of art style and character designs.

you gotta remember that PS was trying to bring in as many people into the franchise as possible through this game. that's why there's so much stuff to do on CaS. that's my hypothesis.

I figured it had more to do with the timeline itself. DOA and Tekken seem to be games where their present timeline, or slightly present, can be an advantage, especially in the character designs themselves, which can easily appeal to today's standards. Also designs that can be endless (Kasumi's blue outfit, Leifang's qipao), but DOA has times where they do create new costumes for characters.

Soul Calibur uses Anime influence, and maybe some fashions, as a way to appeal to audiences today. They've been doing that since SB. They don't really think about designs that can be endless, because their outfits change every installment. Is it a bad thing? Not really. Even I love seeing what characters look like when they release new installments.

But this discussion is about stages right?

I actually think a beach stage could still work, but not in the premise of DOA. Think Musashi Miyamoto vs. Kojiro Sasaki. Not sure how that would be set up either because SC makes their stages a lot differently from DOA and Tekken. SC has ringouts. Their beach stage would probably be like VF's beach stage. The beach scenery but players are on a platform.

We need a stage that has the same gimmick as Elysium's. A seemingly perfect paradise but get to the last round and it becomes a nightmare.
