Pyrrha and Patroklos switch swords

Would the story be potentially better or worst if Pyrrha and Patroklos had somehow switched swords in Episode 11 of the Story Mode?

I ask because it never felt like Soul Calibur "fit" with Patroklos. He never did anything to earn it, he was given the sword without any proof or trial of whether he was worthy of it. Considering his vengeful nature, the many innocents that he slaughtered in cold blood and the malfestation that he would have inherited from his mother...it makes no sense for Soul Calibur to not immediately reject him.

Similarly, Pyrrha seemed like she was being groomed into a role that she had no "soul" for. Her hands aren't clean, but she kills either in self-defense, under Tira's manipulations or the direct control of the Soul Edge shard in her body. And when she initially grew the nightmare arm, she seemed to be in control of herself and only wanted a hug from the brother who she just saved.

So despite facing outside and even internal factors beyond her control, Pyrrha seems more worthy of Soul Calibur than her brother. Vice versa, Soul Edge seems like a better fit for Patroklos' nature and actions.

So how would things turn out if the swords switched for whatever reason (Feel free to be creative)?

I made character recolors that explore the concept of the siblings switching swords. They're in my CaS thread. Search for "Patroklos Omega" and "Alpha Pyrrha."

Anyway, I see where you're coming from, but I don't completely agree, because of how I see the two swords and what they represent in the story. Since SE, Soul Edge has always represented might, absolute power, and destruction, so it was portrayed as evil. In contrast, during SC 1-3, Soul Calibur has been the sword that could defeat Soul Edge and was portrayed as "good." However, ever since SC4, with the revelation that Soul Calibur wants to crystallize the world to impose a ruthless kind of order, the dichotomy between the two swords shifted from one of "good-bad" to "order-chaos." Both swords are now evil, but in opposite ways.

Therefore, the assignment of swords between the Alexandra siblings was very fitting. Patroklos did kill innocents, but it was all done in the name of hunting malfested and under orders from a corrupt authority. He was enforcing an oppressive version of order. As for Pyrrha, Soul Edge was fitting for her, too. At the point where she gets Soul Edge and becomes malfested, she was rejected by her own brother. This pushes her over the edge. Her mind becomes filled with thoughts of hateful rejection of everything around her; it's all she could think about and she loses control. Sounds like a chaotic, destructive character to me.

The story would have been better had they made one worthy of playing. It was completely terrible.

I kinda have to agree. All the stuff for the story in the art book sounded really good on paper, and would have made for a great setup to a good story if it was executed better.
Instead, the two main characters felt a little exaggerated in their traits, newer characters were simply skimmed over, and returning veterans just felt like a backdrop to a series of events that just felt hard to care about. The way it all played out just felt so rushed...

I also think it could go either way with the swords.
A sort of 'justice gone wrong' thing for Pattycakes would have been kind of cool, and not too far off base from his character. If he became the successor to Soul Edge, it could easily twist his thoughts of keeping order into creating his own warped version of 'order', since we've seen just how easily he is influenced by others.
Likewise, Pyrrha's sort of purity and desire to find kinship would match well with Soul Calibur [if she wasn't malfested]. It could offer her companionship and promise and end to the fighting she so despises with an absolute peace, and like her brother who is easily subjected to others' whims, she would probably obey the sword.

I can see where you're coming from, but the story was not terrible. It was a pretty well written story actually. It's just that we only got 1/4th of it due to time constraints. Please, don't misunderstand me, I think the story in SC5 as it is is just as incestuous as you think. BUT, that was not the original story intended to be viewed and played by the player.

Now, imagine a story mode that starts off with you playing as Zwei and Viola fighting, and then being saved by Seigfreid and his group. Now, imagine playing as Patroklos, killing those bandits and then bowing to Dumas. Imagine after that, you play as Nightmare and collect souls by killing random people. Then, suddenly, your Raphael fighting to find Amy. Then, Tira as she rouses up people to attack Pyrrha, and Pyrrha being forced to kill them. After this you're Mitsurugi searching for Algol but instead find Setsuka (who refuses to fight since she already beat him! >:D). Imagine that you're the Leixia walking to the Fu-Ma clan and bringing Natsu on your journey with you. Then you're Xiba being dismissed from the mountains to begin his journey. Now you're Aeon, a rampaging murderer driven by rage. Then you're Ivy, fighting off Cervantes.

Just imagine a story mode where you're constantly switching characters, following everyone's story at the same time. I believe that that is the story that Project Soul meant for us to have.

Stupid Namco. Oh, and what happened to Viola being an important part of the story? Huh?

I think the next soul cal needs to be a prequel. Nearly two decades between two games is way too large a gap. That would offer a lot more room for creativity and engage all the plotholes.

Not to pester you again (lol) but the problem with a prequel is that we will again have to get rid of characters movesets. Viola, ZWEI, Xiba, Natsu, Leixia, Pyrrha, Patroklos, etc. People who have taken the time to learn those characters will be crushed. Now, I'm not justifying the first time skip because people were hurt from that, but another one? It'd be too much. We'd be constantly switching from Viola, to Amy. Xiba to Kilik. Natsu to Taki. Leixia to X and Pyrrha to Sophie.

Although, if it were a side game like SC2HDO is, then that would be perfectly fine because it would fill in all the gaps of what happened while still propelling the series.

Don't get me wrong, the story was interesting to an extent but the execution was just chaotic which is what I meant. Though I will agree with Alpha to which Patroklos and Pyrhha were atrocious in my opinion. Their gameplay was well delivered though. Personally, I think the best new character was Zwei. Most interesting style, didn't annoy and had a decent role. The replacements of old characters were completely unnecessary aside from Xiba who had an important role in trying to save Kilik. Otherwise this game could have been so much greater if the single player was anything like previous instalments.

And in regards to the prequel, I think a side game would be more better but it would not be impossible to initiate those styles again. Not much is known about Zwei or Viola thus characters are always having their styles differed each game. Plus what's not to say Zwei' s 'death' may have sent him back in time? Elements like this could be implemented in so many ways. After all, Soul Calibur May have more abilities than we know...

Or just include notes involving the events between gaps into the next game, either through storyline or some type of mode reflecting on it, like Gallery Mode, or some type of Encyclopedia like Dynasty Warriors does it. Besides, it's not like we don't know where these characters ended up, except Rock, Talim, and Zasalamel.

Instead of making a whole game based around a prequel, why not just add in those parts in SC6? That way it can fill in the missing gaps and move on with the current storyline.
