Ivy tends to be one of the characters whose movelist gets re-arranged a lot between games, and it's difficult to keep everybody happy. I just wondered what people thought of the changes they made to her in SC5, and what people would suggest to possibly improve her...
What I like:
I like that they've made Ivy more accesible. As much as I warmed to the stance transitions in SC4, I prefer the tap for SW, hold for WP approach of the earlier SC games. Also, her "spring" moves like 6 always looked a little weird coming from WP.
What I'd change:
The most important thing I'd change is her small movelist. I understand that they've tried to make her more accessible to newcomers, but I felt she wasn't complicated to use in SC4 because of her big movelist, as much as because of her stance transitions, and I find SC5 Ivy less fun to play.
Removing SE seems really odd, especially given her small move list - lots of other characters have special stances/movements without being considered "complicated". As well as the SE regulars, there are lots of old WP moves that could work from SE, e.g. A+B, 4AAA, 6B, etc.
The developers said they wanted to have tap for SW, hold for WP inputs, and there are a lot of moves that do this. But moves like 4A, 11B, etc. had WP versions in SC4, and 44[A] had a SW version, so it seems odd not to include these. Not to mention SC4 CL/WP 44BB, etc. which are missing altogether.
Given her small movelist, some of the returning moves, like 4A+K, 44A+LK etc. seem like odd choices since they're not as useful as a number of the absent ones. I'd, also prefer having a button press per attack, e.g. A[A] instead of [A], like in SC2. Same applies to , 66[A], and 1A.
I can understand the design decision behind making Ivy more accessible in this game, but feel that the execution misfired a little. To me, she'd be more accessible and more fun if they'd kept more of her old moves (there's lots of unused inputs), but made the CS motion/window easier like in SC2.
