Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

In regards to Okubo-san, he gives me hope for a bright future for the series, given his responsiveness, concern for the players' views and playstyles it seems, and the effort it sounds like they're putting in to properly create a good new installment. He certainly has respect for the series and team, and the game's to celebrate the 20th anniversary technically as has been said, so that's encouraging.

As for a beta if they did something like that, I could see it getting more than one if they did it, and would want to see it in around early-mid February, maybe March? Add in 5-10 characters that are significantly different enough from each other and that would show for a strong sample-size and range of player preferences.
Yeah, I already like him more than Daishi and Hoshino. I think he knows what's good for the series in all aspects, such as having the story and characters the public loves combined with the in-depth gameplay that'll make the game big in the tournament scene. I don't see anyone getting alienated by SCVI like its predecessor.

I really want to know more about Reversal Edge, and I can't help but be a little worried at them saying things like 'joy of weapon combat with one button' or whatever it is they said. I'll stay optimistic till then though.

It's probably just a macro mapped to a button. Nothing any different than any other Calibur game. It's not like we're playing a series with an extensive history of pretzels and other ridiculous inputs now being dumbed down. Outside of a few moves for a few characters, SoulCalibur has always been a lenient execution game.

Strange, I never thought I'd say this but. What happened to Hoshino? It's like he suddenly disappeared after these free-to-play games, did he not have the will to continue on? :|

Should be live from what I've read.

I must say Okubo is really active on Twitter. Tweeted him twice the last few days and the man has been answering fast. I'm putting a lot of hopes on him to direct Project Soul, I do really believe he's doing the best job he can do.

Hopefully he stays active and doesn't get discouraged by fanboy tweets.

Of course you do because he hasn't removed Taki yet. Let's wait and see how this goes first.

Okubo is off to a nice start. Daishi was plenty active on Twitter until Namco brought in the hook. He also came to tournaments and was gracious enough to spend hours answering people's dumb ass questions about SC, beat people in SCV, and allowed us to record an interview. He even chilled with us when we were playing SC4 at 2AM.

Hoshino was brought on as the producer and had 0 interaction with fans. The most interaction that I've seen from him was with Pokken.

Daishi was always a patient one.

I haven't heard much from Okubo though, so we shall see. What is his direction with the series from here forward.

Something worth mentioning, WCMaxi (former Sc1+2 Namco rep for you newer people) recently posted on facebook saying that Okubo has been involved with Soucalibur for ages.

Just a word on the passion republic pics. We will know if they are *real* once we see what kilik looks like. If Kilik looks like the passion republic art then they were legit.

Or who knows maybe they *were* legit but their character art is no longer relevant due to the turnover at Project Soul
Out of the 4 characters they drew, one is already confirmed as NOT being inspired by PassionRepublic. Due to the timeline, it's highly unlikely that Kilik will get that older looks.

We'll see with the next character, but so far I do believe they are indeed unofficial fanarts and not real concept arts as some imply.

I wonder if this could have been super early concept art, before the development team decided to base it on SC1. As you said, Kilik looks rather old in the concept art, but it also looks like they didn't even consider Sophitia's SC1 outfit when doing her concept art. But you could be right that it was never officially tied to the game.

This is exactly what I think happened. It's entirely possibly that elements of those designs still show up, especially if the game gets continued support and they go the DOA route and make major money selling costumes for the ladies.

At the time I didn't think much of these images, but now I believe they were early concept art, especially with how much that we now see of SCV that's carried into SC6, and how much inspiration that this concept art draws from SCV. Now we have Sophitia leading the reveal with Mitsu, and Kilik with a new rival when those characters were mimics, so there must have been some effort to fix that issue from SCV.

Going back to SC1 probably helped get the game out of whatever development hell that it was in.

I wouldn't mind if the 3rd concept arts for Sophie and Kilik showed up somewhere.

I'll buy all the damn costumes they want to sell me if it keeps the game supported.

They might indeed be early concept arts... or better, they might be concept arts for the future of the story if we have a game mode spanning over different eras.

That would be awesome, everyone's 3rd outfit being an aged version of them, so we can get characters from I to V without any problem.

I remember people talking about Dynasty Warriors: you can make any character fight any battle, even if they are dead/children/not born in the canon (his)story. Never bothered anyone I guess ^^

As we're talking about concept arts and aged characters, it still could be a possibility imo because what if the storyline will cover from SC1 to 5? We don't know yet.
If it's the case, we'll get the biggest roster ever, with younger and older characters, with aging costumes etc.

If it happens, I'll show my support by buying every DLC they release (even though I hate DLCs)!
