Soulcalibur VI DLC Discussion Thread

No guest fits better than Ezio. He had everything anyone could have wanted. Popularity, unique moveset, several weapons (all of which weren't already on the roster), easy to play and understand.

Comparing him with Geralt...well i may not be the person to comment on this since i've never played a single Witcher game or read any books but from what i can see, Ezio appears to fit better in a fighting game due to the different type of game both of them are from. Assassin's Creed had a greater emphasis on combat gameplay mechanics i'm guessing so when you look at Ezio, you pretty much know everything there is to know as soon as he starts fighting.

When i think of Geralt i cant help but assume a lot of what and who he is comes out in dialogue through the story, not so much in fighting. I also assume there was a fairly complicated origin behind his magic abilities.

None of that is a problem. I'm just saying if they were both in the same game at the same time, i feel people would probably be less inclined to like Geralt if they arent familiar with his games and i doubt it would be to the same extent with Ezio.

Honestly, I’ve always thought Geralt fit the best as he came across as the least intrusive or out of place.

Aside from Link and 2B, I am neutral towards or dislike the guest characters (usually for petty reasons, ex: me finding all of the Mishima clan annoying, Ezio’s damage distribution being weird, etc.).

Geralt fits well on all aspects. If anything, more than Ezio, who's historical, while Geralt fits the fantasy of the series with his magic.

Thematic wise Geralt and Ezio are pretty much even in my book that's it's not even worth my time figuring out who's the better fit, plus the Astral Chaos is a timeless realm that is the nexus to all space and time periods meaning that everything can be explained with teleports behind you. Nothing personal. :P

Speaking of, one good thing that Haohmaru’s inclusion will bring is a potential way to shoehorn Arthur into the series so as to keep the fighting style.
Oh, I didn't consider that. That's actually pretty cool! I don't think Arthur would or should keep Haohmaru's magicks, though. It was already plenty weird when Aeon kept Kratos's wings and fire and all-but swinging chains.

Take note that I’ve never played SamSho or looked too much into Haohmaru’s fighting style in that game, so I assumed he didn’t have anything magic related.

I do agree on the second part; however, that could be seen as a boon since it would allow for Bamco to ‘personalize’ the style for Arthur.

Here's my full prediction for Season 2.

I think the characters will be:
  • Hwang
  • Haohmaru
  • Setsuka
  • Newcomer
As for why I believe this, remember they said that the content only goes up to SCIII, and that's held true thus far and so I have no reason to believe otherwise (they're probably saving Algol and Hilde for SCVII anyways).

Here are the characters from that era that still aren't playable:
  • Hwang
  • Rock
  • Li Long
  • Lizardman
  • Edge Master
  • Yun-seong
  • Setsuka
Most of these are hard sells as DLC.
  • Rock is bottom tier, his style redundant, and the best elements were given to Astaroth. No need to go into further detail about that...
  • Li Long, yeah that's not happening.
  • Lizardman has a following, but I'm not sure if he's viable as DLC, kind of a weird zone. It's hard to imagine him as DLC, really.
  • Edge Master? Yeah, I'm sure making a mimic into a paid DLC character will go well.
  • Yun-seong is pretty widely disliked, has no presence in the game apart from a throwaway mention, and would be made redundant by Hwang.
This leaves us with Hwang and Setsuka, who appear likely at the moment.
  • Hwang is likely because the fanbase likes him, he's already got full art, and a unique voice actor, plus his own adventures offscreen that could be explored.
  • Setsuka is easily the most popular character of these that are left, given her unique style and appearance. She's practically a lock.

The promotional image was very likely foreshadowing, and the first three have colors that fit different characters.
  • Hwang (yellow; his name means yellow).
  • Haohmaru (red; revealed already, plus he has prominent red)
  • Setsuka (pink; she has a very prominent pink flower theme)
If they weren't meant to indicate anything, I'd say yellow, red, pink and white are awfully random colors to choose. Speaking of which, the white one is definitely a mystery to me since no one really fits. That is part of the reason I think there's going to be a newcomer, as well as this:

Kayane : Thank you Okubo-san and Takahashi-san for your time ! As usual, I have some tricky questions to ask you ! I’m sure you didn’t miss them ! 🙂
Can you tell me more about the Season Pass 2 and what it will include ?
Motohiro Okubo : Season Pass n°2 includes four characters and four character creation parts, so it’s going to be a total of 8 DLCs.
Kayane : I understand better ! Four characters and one is Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown !
M.O. : Haohmaru, yes.
K. : And three legacy characters.
M.O. : Maybe ?
K. : Or maybe a new one ?
M.O. : long pause, hesitant You’ll see ! Please wait !

Do notice the specific way this whole thing is worded. There really is no way this can be misinterpreted when you get down to it.
  • Four characters and four CAS packs. That much we already knew.
  • When Kayane asks if it's four characters, she specifies that one is Haohmaru from SS, and asks if the other three are legacies. Okubo doesn't give a yes or any variation of that. He gives a "maybe". As in, trying to avoid giving a definitive answer.
  • Then, when Kayane asks if one of the three is new, and he makes long pause, not sure how he should go about answering the question. Then he just tells her to wait and see.
So that's a good indication as can be that they got something brand new planned. Okubo could've said "all are legacies", or deny that one is brand new. There would be no obligation against it if true. He didn't. Kayane threw him a curveball that he wasn't prepared for, and tried to dodge it, which says a lot. I don't think he would've been so hesitant about answering if something wasn't up. Keep in mind that with Tekken 7, the S2 DLC was made clear right away to be all legacies (and Negan). This one is being vague, and I don't think that's a coincidence.

So there's my two cents on this. Can't wait to see how it stacks up (prays for new female newcomer).

Wait, "homophobe"? Didn't know Yun-seong ever swung that way...
He doesn't, at least not in canon. He's on Team Talim.

He is, however, a very pretty guy, so I'm sure he's got male fans who are all over him, and would write fanfiction and draw fanart addressing him as such.

I refuse to accept hwang so easily compared to the rest of you guys.

Yun seong is easier for the devs to implement. The color yellow could apply to him. Though honestly green has almost always been the color for Yun’s Kata trails(the color that follows the weapon when you swing)

Hwang had a blue sword trail in SC arcade, then orange in console. Assassin was yellow, then for 3 hwang console was green, and arcade was orange

Or the colors have no meaning. Which would not surprise me at all.

I understand that Okubo has to be aware of hwang due to vocal fans and our own Hayate being a champion for hwang to return...but the odds have always been against hwang. It’s never turned out good for him

Hayate's power doesn't scare me, I'm still promoting Yun-seong. :sc2yun2:

And Dissidia is absolutely on Team Amy. :sc4amy1:

You're not wrong that Yun-seong would be easier for the devs to implement, but I feel like he would have had a greater presence in the story if he was the plan. Though, that being said, Hwang and Aeon seemingly planned for base game and didn't happen, and Setsuka having even less presence than Rock, though basically being a lock, then that might not as be important, and Yun-seong may go for the marketability. But I don't see how Yun-seong has to do with yellow. Generally speaking, green is the "Korea color" if such a thing exists. See also the Seong Dojang disciples having green and white uniform.

Hwang's "color" as it were, would be blue, generally speaking. Blue Storm, blue trails, though they probably gave him orange trails on console to contrast, and also orange is a semi-secondary color for him, with his vivid green outfit. But his name literally meaning "yellow" is the biggest motivation to support the color theory, if nothing else.

I believe in Okubo. :sc3hwang1:

LOL I’m not saying hayate is all powerful, but he is basically the only person with a name in the community pushing for hwang. Everyone else is just a hoard of anime avatars on twitter and Reddit.

As for a Yun. I don’t dislike him, but he needs a facelift. He’s fucking ugly in SC4. The art is fine but the model face is huge and he doesn’t look his age his great model in SC2 and 3 lost forever...

He see my salty in every tweet and still follow me. So I stan him and expect he win a tournament with Hwang.:sc3hwang1:

All hope is not lost here, look at how they fixed Cassandra's face!
