I'm sad they never expanded upon those. They were one of the coolest and more unique CaS styles. And their return would mean a proper Revenant like the above, instead of that Cervantes-styled impostor.

Wave Swords was a heavy inspiration on Algol's style, the blades that protrude from his arms have some shared animations. But if Azwel is effectively replacing Algol, maybe we could see the Wave Sword style back as its own thing, that could be cool.

I think I still prefer them as their own thing, rather than being mixed in with Algol's smorgasbord of bodily weapons.

Cassandra, Amy, Yun-Seong, Setsuka, Viola, Hwang, Hilde, Lizardman (lower than zwei but not if adding aeon to his count), and Zwei (in that order although Hwang and Yun-Seong might be interchangeable) are the characters I could see being turned into playable characters via DLC but perhaps they'll add a New Character altogether in season pass 2 if the game sells well enough.

I'm hoping for any of those two to still be in the base roster or via an unlockable but I'm also not going to bet on it.

I'm not sure if you can do any change to the weapons without having to re-do a lot of the animations. Change the shield size and you'll cause some major clipping issues (like with 88B and her sidethrow), not to mention her current shield looks very light in her current animations and a big, heavy shield would make those animation seem out of place. A javelin or spear is used in a very different way than a short sword so a lot of the animations would look real out of place.

It depends. Giving her a spear would definitely mean a change in animations and would need an overhaul of her moves as it's a completely different weapon. A big shield on the other hand wouldn't change many moves and only needs some tweaking in her animations. It's a great visual change that tells us that she relies on her shield more. Give her some of Patty's moves and more shield based ones then we're good to go.

A bigger sword could work, but a spear would need to change a lot of her moves. A bigger sword and shield may just be minor changes to her animations and a longer reach.

Yes, that's correct. There were Hwang CaS in Broken Destiny and SoulCalibur V, but that hardly counts.

Taking an already popular character and changing them will only negatively affect that character overall.

Its unpopular characters that should change. Its more likely their popularity will improve.

Plus it functions as a somewhat new character.

That is true, and i assume will happen, if she's in.
But in my eyes, changing her fighting style, in the drastic ways imagined above, like a mashup with Hilde's or Hwang's style seems like a very bad idea.

There was never a problem with her having a sword and shield in SC2-4.

I think it’s a silly assumption to make that certain popular characters couldn’t even be more popular. Sure, less popular characters may better candidates for weapon changes, but that doesn’t mean other characters couldn’t have a net gain.

Sometimes in life the choice is compromise or nothing. I'd rather not have Amy then have her taken over by Viola and the style I can't stand so I understand where you are coming from. I just want to make sure you understand what the choice is most likely at this point. Compromise or nothing. I personally would rather nothing than the spit in the face that is Viola. If you all keep pushing for Cassandra be prepared for the Viola treatment.

That’s in part because the replacements were not improvements, and that’s an extreme example. That’s specifically targetting popular characters and erasing their identities versus altering a weapon of a character.

Giving her a bigger sword and shield would not drastically change her style. It would be more of a aesthetic change that further visually differs her from Sophitia, which is her main issue. She should also have some of Patty's moves as they would greatly benefit her as well as fit her style and yet again differ her more from her sister.
