We might get Liz, but I feel there's zero chance for Hwang/Yun now. I feel they've been ostracised by Project Soul. Obviously, the team hadn't seen @MONEYMUFFINS in action - would have probably outmanoeuvred Japan's own Shining Decapon if the character match-up were allowed to happen. Hwang appears to have already been confined to history and best forgotten (prior to even SCIV), or so it seems... Japanese don't mind Korean women though - we got Mina at least!

Based on the revealed roster so far, porting an SC3AE character (Hwang) doesn't fit the pattern - and explains more his absence despite being in SC1. I wouldn't be surprised if it were just Inferno and Edge Master left after Raphael. I don't see any reason to hide Lizardman all this time - and seriously doubt they would revamp him to take on traits of another character.
There wasn't a reason to hide Cervantes all this time, either. That's hardly a justification. Hwang being a SC3 character explains why he's last to be revealed, requiring the most work, and Lizardman may be more work than others too, potentially, if they're combining Patroklos's style with lizard attacks. There was no reason to tease Aeon at E3 if he wouldn't be in the game, and Hwang hasn't been forgotten, either, as he is in Mi-na's profile.

Because Yun-seong and Hwang are as different as Cassandra and Sophitia.

Yun-seong is only the base that is used. You add and take away from that, which is much easier than starting from scratch. That's how Cassandra started in the first place. Sophitia was only the base that they built from.

Is it anywhere confirmed that Soph's style has a selectable Axe in it?
Aside form one screenshot where a random Lizardman presumably uses Soph's style with axe in hand?

Man I’d be upset if they took Yun-seong’s unique point (dem kicks) and tried to pass it off as someone else’s lol.
Especially because Hwang has his own kicks and style. It doesn't make sense to use Yun-seong's style as a base when they were already so different in SoulCalibur III. They would have to change mostly everything.

No, we haven't seen Sophitia's weapons selection yet. It's very possible that they just slapped an axe on her style for demonstrative purposes, because Lizardman's style wasn't finished yet.

I think my big ??? about the axe we saw is that it didn't have a pointed tip at all on the heft, so stabbing with it (and chucking it upwards in the case of CE) is gonna look MAD weird

The Lizardman CaS was using Sophitia’s style. Sophitia has an axe so that the Lizardman CaS can have an axe to use. I’m not sure what the confusion is.

No confusion here. Maybe you are the one confused? I'm not saying Sophitia can't have an axe or that Lizardman can't be co-opted by Sophitia with an axe, but that there is a possibility of a Lizardman character because of the his inclusion as a race AND the fact that there is an axe and not a sword AND the tease of said lizardman CAS using axe+shield (even if it might be Sophitia's in that screen).

Maybe there is an actual Lizardman, maybe there isn’t. But it just doesn’t make sense to me for them add an axe to Sophitia’s arsenal when it could have just been part of a hypothetical Aeon Calcos-with-a-Sword’s kit. And even then, why spoil the surprise with a stand-in Lizardman CaS using an axe when they could have just waited to show us the actual Lizardman himself.

Keep in mind, this is from a trailer that dropped just a few months before release. A lot of things are going to be set in stone by now. The last time something like this happened was when a half-baked Hilde was preemptively revealed in the announcement trailer for SCIV, a whole year before the game even came out.

This also doesn't make any sense, unless you're also saying that they rebuilt Cassandra from Sophitia again for SoulCalibur IV. Why would they do that, when her unique style already existed in SoulCalibur III?

The thing about Hwang and Lizardman being in the base game is that they'd be leaving two of the empty slots, even though there's 4 DLC characters. It doesn't add up.

Either 1) add more DLC slots like Tekken 7 or 2) the side slots are just DLC submenus for 1p/2p. Leaving three empty slots for who knows how long would be worse.
