The Arcade Stick and Convertor Thread & List

questions: how can i get the SCIV stick if i live in Canada? it looks like Amazon and Target won't ship this item to Canada.

if i'm out of luck with this stick, what is a viable alternative? i'd like to keep the cost under 80-100$ if i can.
It's not a good stick, not worth the money.

and are Japanese editions of sticks compatible with my domestic PS3? i looked at play-asia and the Japanese ones are cheaper than the US ones by about 30$. also their SCIV sticks are 20$ more than everywhere else... which makes me not want to buy from them if i can help it.
Yes, they are compatible.

Japanese ones work. I'm using a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 at the moment. Also while Play-Asia may look cheaper, they force you to use courier shipping if you buy hardware so thats another ~$53(USD for me) you're adding onto the cost of your stick. Also since you're on amazon why not check out their list of other retailers selling the stick, from what I'm seeing theres 2 other places online that are selling the stick.

Nice whitey :D That's pretty slick, and I know jack about building things so I can't point out anything. Do you actually have two PCB's in there o_O It seems pretty thin, is why I ask.

I'm going to have to wait a bit before I can afford to drop the dough for a PS3 stick. I just wish I could find a good converter (as in one in a shop other than ebay) for my ol' ps2 one. Argh.

My advice: Get a custom stick. I got the HRAP3 and I find I'm replacing the buttons and the stick gate anyway. In hindsight I would have been better off having one build from scratch.

Yes, it will be more expensive, but would you rather shell out less money for something to get you by or a bit more to get the very best?

I use a DB25 port. what i did was take the all the buttons and joystick and hooked it up to the DB25 (its the old parallel port from older computers basically.) Then I take Parallel cable and jack it to a project box with either a 360 or a playstation 1 pcb in it. from there i just jack it to the console and its smooth sailing (I have a ps2 to ps3 dongle). So basically my stick works with any console in exsistance, i just need to get a controller and mod it...the only downside is i need to carry the project box around as well as the DB25 cable.

so yeah, if you open my stick, all it is is a mess of wires...its like looking at a bowl of spaghetti :p

harlekein: Yeah, that's what I meant by getting a new stick. I was looking at the HRAP3 but like you said I might as well go custom. After getting a plain Hori FS EX2 for the 360 I realized how ridiculously outclassed stock sticks are.

whitey: That's pretty kickass :D I didn't realize you could do that, though thinking about it it makes sense in terms of putting old ports to use :P I was wondering why you didn't have any kind of controller cable running out of it. Did you put together the dongle yourself as well or did you pick up a converter?

If you get a HRAP3, all you need to do is change the buttons... The stick is already a sanwa-jlf. Unless you don't like sanwas.. Then yeah custom all the way.

I bought a dongle off jaxel. The only dongle i've built is a usb cable for an xbox 180 controller to work on the pc.

But building your own dongle for console brings up all sorts of complications. The biggest one being the whole home button mess. If i had the time and resources I could probably figure it out, but there is a perfectly good solution and its cheap if ya know where to go.

So yeah, its not worth trying. Sorry to be a pessimist

Haha, no need to apologize. The fact that you can build anything in the first place brings plenty of my respect :P I do agree that home/guide buttons and having individual controller assignments makes for a lot of fuss at times.

Possession: Yeah, I guess, but honestly I haven't really noticed much difference between the feel of the stock HORI buttons and the sanwas I have for my PS2 stick. I know there's a huge difference in longevity, value, etc. but in terms of just feel I'm not that much of a stickler for detail. To be honest I like the variation in Seimitsu buttons more so than the standard Sanwa stuff tho.

In case anyone's interested, here's the custom PS2 stick I do have :) Sanwa stick with bat top, Sanwa buttons as well... if I remember correctly :P Built by TMO last year, before he went back to making straight-up cases; if I could I'd ask him to make my PS3 stick as well purely because he was awesome with posting updates and pics during the entire building process :D

^Nice, Syr. TMO's cases are nice and MMZ art is always fun to boot.

I've always wondered what it'd be like playing a Jp style stick with a battop... I just feel like balltop is easier for the multitude of hold-styles I use (yeah, I have to switch grips if I want to air dash etc. from the right in GG).

I got one of Dreaded Fist's last customs, and while they're boxier/thicker than most of the newer stuff that custom stick makers are doing, I like the heft and it's supremely comfortable to play on. Sanwa stick (square gate) and Seimitsu buttons, just a regular digital PS1 controller for the PCB... but it works fine on PS2 and on PS3 with the Pelican USB converter, so I'm good.

I also have a PS1 Namco stick, which is IMO the best you can get for retail. Hell, sometimes I even prefer the extra resistance from the buttons to Sanwas and Seimitsus.

Niiiiiiiiiiiice ExMachina :D Do you actually keep the DF stick on your lap? I still haven't really gotten used to the weight of TMO's stick on my lap.

You know what's funny about having the battop, I still pretty much hold it like a ball, cradling it o_O It does help a bit when you go for quick taps though as it makes more sense to flick a stick than a ball. I went for the stick mostly for aesthetics though, for Zero's sake, since I didn't have much stick experience period.

...I'd kill my own mother for one of those. lol.

I have a custom, made by Godspu. And I love the motherfucker to death.

Like the Review says, it works with Xbox 360 (Guide button and headset support included as seen in pics) and works on ALL playstations (1-3 thanks to the REAL convertor)

Nice to see more and more stick enthusiasts here...

I love arcade sticks (I have way too many) and just wanted to drop in and let you guys know you SHOULD look forward to the official Street Fighter IV sticks coming out next year. They are going to be GOOD. ;)

The MadCatz ones?

I bought one of these HFS SCIVs and am currently attempting to get used to it for X360. I am coming from using a controller, so it is a big difference. The button setup is very comfortable, however, I tend not to use the triggers and bumpers anymore, as they require much more movement off of the main buttons. That being said, it is a bit tough to go from the controller diamond layout, with :K: being to the right and :A: to the left, to switch to :G: being far left, followed by :K:, then :A:, :B:. Currently I have played with remapping :B: to :K:, :A: to :B:, and :K: to :A:. If that all makes any sort of sense, then great, if not I probably just confused you further. (It is all written in SC4 notation, not XBOX notation). All in all happy with the size and weight of the stick, like the audio feedback on the stick, makes it much easier to play characters like Cervantes and Taki. I think once I get used to it I'll never be able to play without it.

Also, I am interested in custom sticks, though I don't know that I am ready for one yet, I do find it worth looking into. SC4 is really the first fighting game I am looking to play at a serious level, so I am just starting out.

KuroiKaze: no, not without some lag and paying a pretty penny for the one converter out there. And even then it's more for PC/Mouse setups, iirc.

SeriousSlasher: Uh, if you want the setup to make sense off the bat just change your controls to Option B. Then it'll be:
A B K
G
like the rest of the world :) I forgot to change it once and playing KAB makes no effing sense.

As for the SF4 sticks... I might get some for collection's sake. If it comes as something like the ol' Saturn pads though... >D Nice to know you have a hand in it Mark!

Syr: I'm ok playing with the DF stick in my lap, though I infinitely prefer to use it on a flat surface in front of me (like I'll kneel at a coffee table in front of the TV, if that's what it takes...). Just feels more like the authentic arcade experience when it's anchored in front of you (rubber feet don't exactly do much on your lap, hehe). :P

Rek: I fortunately did not have to resort to such desperate measures for that (thank you, SRK marketplace), though I know the feeling. Even with HRAPs and VSHGs and all floating around, I still would take a Namco any day.

RE: SF4 sticks... Christ, I already spend enough money on gaming! Don't tempt me. xD

Question, this is really the first game that has had me looking into arcade sticks in general, I have pretty much always been a console player. In fact, I have always been an apple/mac user, so I never did much computer gaming either. However I am fairly good with electronics and everything. How tough are these to build would you say? Lets go with a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a self-assembly RC competition car, and 10 being the wiring harness of a real car.

Syr: Thanks, I didn't even flip through the different defaults, I just started remapping everything. I'll have to just switch it when I get home.

Question to any builders reading this. Where are good places that I could get a couple Sanswa sticks, a bunch of Seimitsu buttons, PCB boards for PS3 and 360, and both square and octagonal gates.

I just finished swapping out the buttons my on HRAP3 it was a pain in the ass getting the new buttons in and getting the start/select ones out. If I had the tools to do so I'd build my own in a heartbeat but for now the sanwa swap will do just fine. The new buttons feel great too.
It ended up looking like the HRAP3-SA, color wise.
