While you do have some very strong points, I don't like how people believe every religion is like our Abrahamic religions, based on an institution that kills a bunch of people. It's not the fault of the people that choose to ignore science, but the assholes that exploit these beliefs to increase their power, since most of the time these poor people are not even taught further than reading and basic arithmetic, and are pressured into believing in all this bullshit by the people they depend on.

I don't get the need to believe in a God except fear of the afterlife or institutionalisation
This world is amazing - the complexity of a human, the ideals and concepts of beauty and all the everyday miracles we take for granted, not to mention that this may all be a result of a long chain of coincidences. Why would we devalue these things by evoking the mystical? I believe in things that I'm able to experience; chemicals, gravity 'n' shit.
Knowing that maybe "this is it" is in no way disappointing. Why does it make any more sense to think that someone or something beyond our comprehension created all matter than it does to accept that it's just here, and it should be appreciated as it is, in all its real, comprehensible beauty?
...I think what I'm trying to say is shut up and appreciate chemicals, gravity 'n' shit.

Agnostic for 500 Alex.

I gotta say I'm a little on the fence on this. I'd like to think that there is something after death and we don't just up and disappear, but there is no way for anyone on this planet to have any idea what it would be. Whether there is one God in heaven or multiple in Asgard we really have no way to say for sure, except for a bunch of books written by delirious kooks thousands of years ago that have been altered over and over for the sake of greedy tyrants.

Though I can respect the viewpoints of atheists as well, here's something for you guys-

I've got to take time to say, I absolutely love all of you right now. So many incredible points in one thread that I can't even begin to describe how much this improved my mood.

All I have to say is I was raised in Christianity and from a young age I never questioned anything "Because that's the way God made it." Since I later found my own way, I've been able to learn so much more because I question reasons why things are the way they are and search for the answer. Religions seem to do nothing more than close people up in a little box, 'protecting' them from the harsh world around them. In short, if it weren't for those who dared to venture out of the box of religious belief, the world would still be flat and we would be at the very least a century behind in technological advancements.

AGNOSTICS ARE JUST AS DUMB AS RELIGIONISTS. LOOK AT THEIR COMMON ARGUMENT:

“WE DON’T KNOW FOR SURE WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU DIE.”

WHO CARES! ANYTHING THAT CAN’T BE FALSIFIED CAN’T BE PROVEN TRUE.

“I SAW A GHOST LAST NIGHT. BUT YOU WEREN’T THERE, SO YOU CAN’T SAY I’M LYING.”

OH, HOW CONVENIENT. NOBODY WAS THERE SO MAYBE IT'S TRUE. RIGHT?

WRONG.

IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT THROUGHOUT HISTORY, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY HARD EVIDENCE OF GHOSTS. WHAT REASON IS THERE TO BELIEVE THIS PERSON ALL OF A SUDDEN?

HAVING FAITH IS STUPID WHEN YOU CAN USE A LITTLE CRITICAL THINKING. BUT THEN THEY SAY, “BUT IT’S TRUE FOR ME!”

NO, IT’S NOT TRUE FOR YOU. THERE IS NO YOUR TRUTH OR MY TRUTH. THERE IS ONLY TRUTH.

AND WHO SAYS ATHEISTS ARE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THERE IS NO GOD? IT’S A MATTER OF LIKELIHOOD. NO DELUSIONAL ASSHOLE GOES AROUND SAYING HE IS 100% CERTAIN GOD DOESN’T EXIST. THEY JUST SAY IT MAKES MORE SENSE TO THEM THAT THE RELIGIOUS VERSION OF GOD IS FALSE. AND EVEN IF THEY WERE 100% SURE GOD DIDN’T EXIST, THEY WOULD BE IN THE MINORITY AMONG ATHEISTS.

From this thread you could assume atheism means anti-religion. I am not a Christian, but I am a theist so I guess I post here.

When it comes to these discussions I find people aren't really interested in the actual truth. People generally believe whatever caters to the life they want to lead. Personally, I have given every thing a chance, religion, atheism...after all my searching I am theist.

Religion is flawed because the actual teachings haven't passed the test of time. People just change whatever they don't like, and also misinterpret and misinform. So even I who grew up christian was very skeptical.

But eventually I got to the truth. God exists. We just have flawed concepts on what God is.

I've said it in a thread a while back on here, and many other times, but agnostic, as it's being used in this thread, drives me insane.

It's not a position. The question is: "Do you or don't you believe in any gods?". You either you do or don't believe, no middle ground exist, and you can be agnostic either way it. Saying you don't know simply does not address the question, it only tells of certainty.

Edit: I didn't mean to come off rude, and try to shut down people's opinions. Just trying to say "Hey, stupid, you didn't answer the question".

I won't say God does exist and I won't say God does not, I will say fuck all you arrogant pricks who think you are spouting facts when talking about something you can't prove or disprove.

I adhere to my own way of thinking and don't like to fall into any particular category, whether I am labeled as Agnostic or Atheist doesn't really concern me in the slightest.

Also we need to watch it in here guys, I think we are getting a bit close to lockable with some of the recent comments. Remember what SupHy said-

As long as people stick from bashing religions, I see no problems.

Agnostics are open to the idea of a god even though they do not believe it themselves. Most atheists do not believe there could ever be a god, and completely deny the possibility of it's existence.

Let me just lay all my beliefs out on the table.

- I don't believe in a higher power. I'm not concerned as much about whether a creator exists or not.
- I don't believe in a true ethical universe.
- I don't believe god has the ultimate moral compass.
- I don't believe in free will, but I do not weigh that idea into my "choices."
- I don't like the word destiny either.
- I don't believe we are moral agents, but rather the systems, cultures, and societies we create and live in.
- I believe only in cause and effect, but welcome entertaining alternatives.

i believe that us humans are the top of the food chain and nothing is in top of us, but if i were to believe in something like a god, it would be my dog.

Scientists are like good SCV players: they're usually right, but still willing to accept when they're wrong and do whatever they can to improve.
The religious are like scrubs: fundamentally wrong but too stubborn to do anything about it.
Just gonna point out that that was a joke. There's no way to categorically prove one side or the other, so I'll never genuinely tell someone they're fundamentally wrong... I just really wanted to draw that comparison :P
